does anyone know how to up the driver without making the performance worse than igpu? no dx11 support through steam is why i need update.(well technically too early vulkan version in driver if any so dxvk won't work)

on driver 390 minecraft does 100+ fps 30 fps max on igpu same settings. on driver 5xx minecraft does maybe 14fps.
(yes these are high 1080p settings)
these are the  drivers the nvidia card does well with. warframe won't boot cause too early version tho.
    im on endevour os.

Oddly driver 470 works too but still no warframe support.

    Actually my p104 i got pre bios modded to 8gb. I got 2 p102's(the 1080 mining version)

One came with a bad bios. The other worked fine but was only 5gb vram cause half the card was locked. I tried to mod it after id stupidly tried to repaste it not realising i lost a screw of the 4 on the back and this killed the good card. The other i thought i could fix in nvflash when the seller "didnt know what was wrong" so i figured bad flash and knowing of nvflash i thought itd be an easy fix. But i could never fix it.

Feel free to massage me if anything goes wrong with linux version. Also remember. Do not believe yhe warnings! They tell you "a logoff will make new driver work" but a restart works much better also. Before u restsrt always install nvidia prrime and run sudo "prime-select nvidia" or sudo "prime select ondemand(aka must tell it to use nvidia)" in some cases prime select mvidia can black screen you. If this happens after your grub, hit "ctrl atl f2" for a tty terminal. Then run "sudo prime-select query" to varify nvidia mode blackscreened you.
"sudo prime select on-demand && sudo reboot" then type pass. And do "install nvidia xserver settings" or similar. And u should see in about pc "nvidia p104-1]]/sse2" or similar if in nvidia mode.

Do sudo prime-select query in os to make zure after. If in ondemand theres a spasific command u have to run in terminal with app name to make it use the nvidia card. Not ideal but it works.

@ProngsOldGuy sure thats not a p106-100? i upgraded from p106-100 6gb to p104-100 8gb recently, mine also runs at the x4, but heaven benchmark score went from
    1400-ish 1080p fullscreen max settings opengl render (p106-100 6gb)

to 2000 same settings with a p104-100. have you a bios mod to enable the disabled cores and make it like a 1080 non-ti? i got 2 for sli on gta, but wine doesn't support sli, not does heaven linux.

well, i installed ubuntu 16.04 without the card attached to the pcie slot/in the system.
then booted in with igpu and used the command "sudo apt-get update" once i finished, i turned the pc off and threw the p104 in. last swap to nvidia driver in "additional drivers" tab from the dash. your fans will be loud on the opensource driver till you swap.

word of warning, the card will only work if it has a fan attached. passively cooled didn't. add the "graphics team ppa if you want 418 driver/dxvk games to work.

newer versions of ubuntu should work the same didn't test as i dislike gnome de. make sure igpu is always on in bios before doing this, also if you swap drivers do a shutdown-reboot between swapping or you get issues.

i had a p106-100 before the 104, as well as a 104 sli but ssadly no games get the sli support even through wine. so this should work. drivers 385-430 were tested. no mods needed on linux.

Ive seen people flash the 8gbp bios onto p104-100's before using the fancy usb clip that attaches to the gpu bios chip. Never did it myself but have 8gb gpu in my system. So could that do it? I forgot the name. Also some trch youtubers turned the fake 1050's back into their original bios.

I realise i kinda worded that strangely, ive seen 4+4 on cpu power on atx power supplies before, just was refrencing the gpu as a its easier to explain i simply wouldn't of used the extra +4.

The limiting of tdp sounds okay, just need to disable 2 cores id assume or itd force an underclock as 8086k is close to the 8700 if it auto limits it.

And well it looks like this would of been possible depending on how it handled cpu, if not for the propriatary small connector would of tried cpu connector on psu. Getting in a case seamed possible. Thanks. Ill look into that small cable. See if is used cable that goes to an atx psu. Can only assume now that the 2 4 pins are for cpu and the propriatary is what connwcts it to a battery or said connector may be used in some oem hp non laptops. Will look into it. Thanks. If not then ill go with a b310 desktop board i have lying around. Thanks!

Edit: just looked, theres 4 pin and the propriatary connector to 24 pin adapters so this may be possible.

well, can you use linux? since your gpu is normal, it should work better than a p102. just leave the hdmi or whatever on onboard.

for ubuntu boot from usb and install. use these commands

    sudo apt-get add ppa:graphics-team" && sudo apt-get update

then click dash and search additional drivers and choose most recent one. 450 is beta, 440 is stable. shutdown reboot after the drivers installed, and it should work fine. assuming 20.04/ most recent version. also can't, as far as i know, overclock on 440. i have driver 418 xconfig for intel igpu prime, that can oc, but even less gaming compatability.

would recommend duelboot or dueldrive if possible. incase this fails.

gpuz check that. and check for throttle. your driver settings may be set to adaptive clocking where it down and up clocks the gpu. mines like that on linux at high resolutions. supposedly 100% usage at desktop in 4k gwe(like gpu afterburner), yet games work fine.

appimige: Like a windows app after download. you right click, make executable, and can click from there. then itd integrsted to system.

snap: like windows app store's netflix. web apps, but they're built into your system's core meaning they update with os and have loops on file system.

flatpak: you can use it for system utilities, like Gpu overclock tool.(may be wrong on this one) and they take more steps to integrate into your system, as they don't loop like the snaps.

Usually apps in ubuntu, can't speak for mint, are in .deb formats. meaning you download a .deb file, then the data in the file will then give a front end/gui to install it. think of the .deb as a " box" for the snap, and the click as a tape remover. or you type "sudo apt install " appname" and it'll do the .deb stuff in one command.

@cgexe the f in your cpu name means it lacks an igpu. without that you can't make the card work.

i saw the 1050 and 1030 cards in your system. you could try passthrough with kvm and linux, but its vary difficult. i think theres a guide how to do that somewhere. i've never successfully done it tho.

Snowarch got a reaction from mineblaster in Minecraft Server
well, im on linux(ubuntu, with gui), and would recommend it, uses less idle/ on fresh boot resources

you need a static ip. the server itself plain vanilla uses about 120-ish mb before a player joins, maybe 50mb per player. mods can use 500mb easily before a player joins.

i host on a quadcore celeron  with quadcore 1.1ghz, and sodimm ddr3 so yes should be okay.

    steps
    • download the minecraft server.jar file, and openjdk. i use jdk 8 but any version should do.

•put it where you want the server file to be stored.

•cd into where the file is: in my case its
    cd ~/Documents/mc2
then start the server with some ram.
    • use /stop in the server gui, then add the server ip to server properties folder.

••The server must be stopped when you edit the properties.

    ~Suggestion
for security, you could let your friends join/who you want, add them to whitelist, and then enable whitelist.

° my server specs and ram estimate

i give 6gb of ram and get about 2% usage on vanilla 1.12.2 , so overkill but something like this should be a good estimate

120mb + (50mb*number of players) + some extra ram for varience.

my net speed is about 29 on speed test, and blocks respawn a second then break, so little faster than that.

    •Note
if you have the wrong ip the server will insta crash. you can change it in properties if this happens. host pc can't join the server in my expirence.

you need to right clock the .jar file and make it executable as program in properies. also theres a command you need to start the server with custom ram ammount. when i say cd and commands all thats done in terminal. leave the no gui out of the command. /stop in a linux terminal causes issues.

edit: 25565 is traditionally the minecraft port.

and will add a number behind the score by page number of the thread so all this can be seen in the screenshot/format. @papajo

You have a typo in your command line

-Xmx6144 - This tells java it can use a maximum of 6144 byte of memory
-Xms6144M - This tells java to reserve an initial amount of 6144 Megabyte of memory

That is a contradiction In other words you need to add the "M" at the end of Xmx as well.
