LiberatedParrott reacted to WildDagwood in I'm kinda done with LTT, because credibility has been lost
Critiquing channel direction, which, to part of his point, seems to be pivoting away from quality information and more towards unnecessary displays of wealth and tech most will never touch, doesn't have anything to do with jealousy. It's more small-minded to jump to that conclusion while not really engaging in a discussion that you apparently don't agree with (which it's fine not to, that's your opinion).

This also has nothing to do with trying to make anyone feel bad about anything (why you're going there makes no sense). It's a community member giving feedback on their experiences over time with LTT. The end of the day LTT will make, for better or worse, decisions pertaining to their business models and content offerings. Some will be praised, others won't, but they need to live with the feedback that comes with it, no matter the case.

    Summary
Gamers Nexus recently announced on their Tweeter they will be flying out to Newegg’s headquarters to confront them about the recent RMA scandal amongst others. GN’s decision to do this was based on various stories from users about similar situations and includes alluding to an whistleblower emails. The full Twitter statement is as follows:

    My thoughts
Newegg has been trying to contact Steve throughout this mess and I think Newegg is very well aware how far these tech channels can reach so there’s clearly some fires at Newegg right now. It’s all damage control from here so I expect there will be PR spin along with only the PR department greeting Steve out front if they meet him out front. Just because Steve shows up at their door, there’s a chance Newegg never comes out of the building.

A while back there was a big trans rights protest out front of the BBC HQ over BBC’s coverage of trans rights issues. There was a very large turnout and well documented on Twitter, however despite how newsworthy the protest was the BBC never reported it and never came out of the building. Instead they later on said they had a duty to report news all over the world and just couldn’t spare any manpower to cover the trans rights BBC protests as there was more newsworthy things to report.

Reason I bring this up is we know Steve doesn’t take BS and I’m sure Newegg knows this. If the company sees at as a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” moment then they may not come out to face the music. Instead they may spin it as, “Well we’re just so busy with the insane amount of orders and interest in our products to take time out of our day to answer questions from someone looking to make a hit piece about us.” Unless Newegg has some big scapegoat I don’t see any argument they could make that will look good for them or Steve will accept.

But when it's Apple, it's plastered all over the internet 100 times over. From far dumber things and reasons. I had Lenovo whose display started dying while it was in service for another thing. Issue with games like those are, they get updated so often that data from previous generation of cards wont be comparable to new ones. I am certain they can test those games but they wont be as comparable as games like Tomb Raider.

Fun fact: LMG is a business & Linus personally owes us nothing. His "non apology" was a non apology because he has nothing to apologise for, the second he allows the consumers who literally give him nothing to dictate what he can and cannot do with his business is when LMG dies and over 20 people end up on unemployment.

LiberatedParrott reacted to seon123 in PSA: Ear Buds and the lack of Awareness in Public.
Most people use their eyes to detect what the people around them are doing (unless you for some reason like overhearing other people's conversations...?), and it is in fact possible to remove earbuds that are being worn, if needed. They are not an implant.
I don't know about you, but I like using my eyes to observe the traffic around me. Look both ways before crossing, etc. If you are just walking straight into the road, and relying on listening for traffic, I would be more worried about you.
Ah, yes, because people that do not wear earbuds never get stabbed or mugged. I did not know that calling 911, a trip to the ER, or even death is sometimes a consequence of being stabbed, thank you for informing us about this, you are very smart.
Ah, yes, correlation = causation. You not wearing earbuds in traffic is the only reason you haven't gotten stabbed, mugged or ran over. That seems like a very valid conclusion

This post may sound harsh, but I'm really at the end of my tether with some of this crap...

This thread is just dripping with entitlement. Frankly some of you sound like little babies when you have your favourite toy taken away. "BUT I WANT IT NOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!"

So let's just set a few things set straight:
It is no individual on this forum's place to decide what these cards are used for. That is the decision of whoever buys any particular card.
More widely, it is nVidia's decision who they sell to. And they make that decision not based on what some people on some random tech forum think. They make that decision based upon what makes them the most money, both in the short and long term. They are a business. They have literally no obligation to you.
Most of us in the world can't even afford a 30-series card. For some of us they're more than we'd spend on an entire computer. You are privileged by even being able to afford this stuff. So stop whinging.
There is absolutely no reason why you need a new graphics card NOW and you CAN'T WAIT. Just use your current GPU for a few more months. If it's dead, buy a cheap old one to chuck in your system for a while. You aren't going to die.
The argument that "mining is dead, nobody mines anymore" is literally more dead than mining itself. People have been saying that for years, and it's not come true...
    Rant over.

LiberatedParrott reacted to LAwLz in Does Linus ever look at the benchmarks of the M1?
    This is our conversation:
You: The M1 Macs does not have "proper software support".
    Me: Yes it does.
You: The Adobe suite does not run properly on the M1.
Me: It runs properly. It works, and performance is about the same as the previous Intel Macs.
You: Have you seen it running? It lags.
Me: Well if you aren't satisfied with the performance in Rosetta 2 then you should probably wait. Just because it doesn't perform as well as it could do doesn't mean it doesn't have "proper software support" though.
You: Photoshop does not work properly.
Me: But it does work. Just because it doesn't perform as well as it potentially could doesn't mean it performs poorly not doesn't work. Here is a benchmark of how well Photoshop performs on the M1 even when it is not running natively.

What would you classify as "proper software support"?
Is it not enough that programs work and run about as well as the previous generation for it to "work properly" in your eyes?
I think the "problem" here is that you don't really care about performance or compatibility, because both of those are good on the M1, even in Photoshop.

Here is a video from photoshopCAFE, where he runs different tests on the Macbook Pro 16", the M1 natively and the M1 through Rosetta.
Even when you run Photoshop in Rosetta, the performance is the same or better than the Intel Macs. In some specific tests the Intel one performs better, and in some tests the M1 (even when running through Rosetta) performs better.

So let me ask you this, what exactly do you mean when you say "proper software support"?
Do you mean performance, compatibility or something else? Because the M1 Macs has both performance and compatibility comparable to the older Intel Macs, even in non-ARM-native programs.

What would you define as "regular work"? I'd say the M1 is more than enough for most jobs. From the list of things you have posted, Docker is the only one that doesn't work at all so yeah, if your work relies on docker then the M1 is not ready for your job yet.
Everything else you have mentioned though, including Photoshop, both runs without problems and performs as expected so I really don't see why someone couldn't use them for work.
Also, the fact is that "regular work" and "Photoshop" are not really the same category. Most people basically only need some email app, a browser and maybe some spreadsheet to do their jobs. That is regular work. Processing pictures in Photoshop (which does work really well on the M1) is not "regular work", it's "niche work".

    1) I don't think what you are describing is a defect.
    2) I never said what you did was make "hate statements".
    3) Your post are very, VERY lacking when it comes to facts. They are 99% opinions and vague stuff. I am trying to have an objective conversation with you by posting things like benchmarks from multiple sources but you responses are basically putting fingers in your ear and going "lalala you're wrong and I am right and I won't explain why".

LiberatedParrott reacted to DarthSmartt in Does anyone else feel like there is no reason to upgrade?
I’m only 15 years old. My parents asked me if I had anything in mind for Christmas. Every year I ask for something pc related. Last year was the quest, year before was a Gtx 1080. This year I really don’t know what to get.

I’ll admit that I am very very spoiled, but anyway... Am I the only one that feels like hardware is evolving too fast for software and even my brain to catch up?
My pc with a 6700k and a gtx 1080 at stock clocks can push games at well over 200fps at 1440p while streaming. And my monitor is only 100hz.

I just feel like there is no need to upgrade because games aren’t getting harder to run. In fact, it’s quite the opposite almost, and I’m still doing just fine on my hardware. Maybe it’s because I don’t play any games competitively anymore. I see some of my friends upgrade their CPU’s and gpus but there really isn’t any point in spending $800 on a new gpu or cpu/motherboard combo.
We are now 5 generations ahead in cpus and 2 in gpus with no real reason to upgrade. I think companies should focus on making products cheaper rather than more powerful. It might make pc an option for console gamers and reduce the gpu scalping that always happens.

Anyway, just me rambling half asleep in my bed at midnight. Reply if you want to... or don’t. Whatever.
