Never cheap out on PSU. I tried the RM850e it had some weird noises. And went back to my old PSU. Might try Corsair again with the RMx shift series.

EDIT: Asus Strix B550 should prob have no problem with 5800x3D, just update the BIOS.

    Yep, that would work.

You may not be able to go directly to the latest BIOS. Sometimes you need to update the BIOS in steps - it should make note of that in the notes for the BIOS updates on the motherboard site if that's the case.

Yes, it should be on the motherboard website.

The only real thing you need to check is what version you need to update the BIOS to in order to get support. All B550 boards have support for all Ryzen 5000 series processors, it just depends on having the right BIOS version.

5800x3D would be a huge upgrade if your board supports it.

if staying on AM4:  5600 or 5800X3D depending on budget.  This is the best you'll get upgrading for "cheap"

Otherwise it'd be 13th gen or AMD7000 and a whole new platform.

I don't see AM4 CPU prices getting much lower than they already are. While a new $100 5700X and $200 5800X3D or 5900X would be nice, I just can't see AMD supplying chips for so long that they let the prices dip that low. They'll stop production of the 5000 series before that happens.

If you're already on AM4, a 5800X3D is a great upgrade for gaming and a decent upgrade for things like Blender. It's about 50-60% faster for both games and productivity.

A 5900X could also be a decent option. It's only about 20-30% faster for games, but it's about 150% faster than your R5 3600 for productivity workloads that can use all 12 cores.

Both are available for around $325 right now.

It better be, I'd rather see the power requirements go down myself. Energy is only going to get more expensive down the road.

Roger, then it might be worth spending a bit more to get a nice NVMe wich you can fully leverage on your new system. I am not talking high end but something like a A80. Let me see what they have.

Ok they dont have the A80
    This is always solid

and yeha they dont have much more 1TB. Or wich capacity do you want?
They have Samsung, but thats overpriced.

    Wellcome to the forum!
Works but not at full speed. Besides that this SSD is not the best choice for NVMe. Depending on if you want to upgrade your platform in the future idd get an other one. If not it doesn't matter because the mobo will be the limiting factor.
    Where are you buying?

Should be fine, though you wont be getting its rated speeds as the M.2 slot is rated for 10Gbps, or 1.25GB/s max
