  1. unfortunately the same thing happens with only the new SSD connected. at this point i am all out of ideas...
  2. another update, we did switch of the PC today for 20 minutes and disconnected power to make sure the memory cache is empty. so we can replicate the issue, but this did not work
  3. oh, just thought of something else: so this is the board: https://at.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z68AG45_G3 in the Bios notes it says for version 12 and up: we did the update to 11.2 as i was not sure what ME8 is. does anybody know what that is, i am not that familiar with MSI boards. also in the Bios i could not find any setting to display the post process. there is a setting to enable the logo screen, but if i disable the logo i just get a black screen
  4. do you remember on what kind of motherboard that was? edit: the board we are having the problem with is a MSI z68a-g45
  5. The boot drive is a new SSD, but there is one older hdd storage drive. the OS used to be installed on an older ssd, but my friend first thought it was an issue with his drive and just upgraded and reinstalled the OS (Windows 7! - i urged him to upgrade) so we did a bios update (still pretty old, but it was an update), and we did check the ram with memtest86. The memory seems to work fine. but the problem is still there. when i first saw the system i tried to replicate the issue by turning off the power switch on the PSU and wait for a couple of minutes. i do not think it was 8 minutes though... so i will give that a try.
  6. But that would not explain why it only happens on the first boot of the day. Or am I missing something?
  7. Disconnecting all usb devices was the first thing I tried. But with this only happening once a day it is difficult to troubleshoot. I guess I will try the bios update. Thank you
  8. Hi everyone, So a friend of mine got a this issue... Every day when he first boots his pc it takes 5 minutes until the first windows logo appears. This does not happen on a reboot or when the pc is turned off for a couple of minutes. Since the pc is about 8 years old I replaced the bios battery and did reset the bios hopening it would fix the issue but today the issue happened ageind. I am not really sure where to start looking into this. I guess my next step would be a a bios update. But he got the exact same setup twice and this does not happen on the other machine. I really appreciate every input on this issue I can get. Right now I know about the system : I5 2500k Msi motherboard
