  1. Hi all, My friend was clearing out his shed and he gave me an old 486 PC. He said he last used it probably somewhere in Summer of 2000, he then got a ruby iMac G3. It supposedly works according to him. I wasn't surprised to see the 3.6V battery leak on the motherboard. It is one of those dreaded "Barrel Batteries" It appears that the battery is made by Varta. Sadly, it has leaked quite a bit however thankfully none of the traces seem to be corroded. Just a bit of that blue stuff. It seems like the stuff is in one of the ISA slots and possibly in one of the PCI slots too. Please see picture below. How can I clean this stuff away? Will isopropyl alcohol do? Or do I need something else Sorry for dim picture its just that my phone was too low on battery to use the flash at the time of taking the picture
  2. So basically I'm building a HTPC and I already have a good case, PSU and 8GB of DDR4 RAM. I have chosen to settle on the AMD Athlon 200GE as its quite cheap an all the PC will be doing is watching my collection of home ripped DVDs and Blu-Rays from my Plex home server. Can someone recommend a cheap, small motherboard that has ports for onboard video? Something Mini ITX preferably as my case only allows up to Mini ITX
  3. Well well, it didnt work sadly. Any other ideas maybe?
  4. Thanks for that, I will try and let you know if it worked
  5. So my sister just gave me her OnePlus 3. She gave it to me because she accidentally pressed the "Lost Device" option and now the phone is wiped and google locked. She cannot for the life of her remember the password to the account. And this basically renders the phone useless. All I want is for the phone to work again. And I have a question: Will installing a custom rom remove the lock? Like LineageOS? Any help is appreciated. Also, I'm a bit of a dummy when it comes to custom recoveries and ROMs, so please can someone also help me with that And before any of you say it: I am 100% responsible for any device damages that may occur during the process and/or making the phone bricked
  6. Hi everyone, hope you're doing well. I have my old Galaxy S8 with me, however I want to revert it to factory state. Right now, it has TWRP on it but no custom firmware, just stock Android 9 from Samsung. Is there a way I can bring back the original recovery? By this, I mean removing TWRP and bringing back the stock recovery. I heard such thing is doable. But I don't know how to. Before any of you say it, I am 100% responsible for any damages that could happen to my device. Thank you all EDIT: Forgot to mention, I have the Exynos model and I'm in the UK if that helps
  7. Wow. Only 39.99? That is actually a very good price for a new GPU
  8. Well yes. And that is what we used for many years. However, I thought that maybe I would install a GPU just a little bit more powerful than the iGPU. It might seem like a waste of money, but I just said yolo it and will purchase one. Also, you don't know by any chance what architecture it will be based on?
  9. Well, it wont be for me. Actually, it will go to my work and probably drive the 1080P TV we have in the lounge which is connected to a PC with an i5-6500 and integrated graphics. It just plays youtube, netflix and sometimes we use it for server management
  10. Hope so too. Can't wait to get my hands on one when it releases
  11. Well that's quite exciting. I wonder what the price will be like
  12. So basically I was downloading some drivers for a friend for a GTX 1650 and I come across this. GT 1010. Is this a new GPU of some sort? I looked online and it says NVIDIA launched it yesterday? Is this fake news or real? Can someone explain?
  13. Hi Everyone. It's me from work now

Currently replacing a dead Hard Drive from one of our servers at work. Another failed 6TB Enterprise Toshiba drive :(

So far I have replaced 3 of them this week.. faulty batch?

Luckily I have a cold spare for this drive however its another 6TB Toshiba

  14. My Dad wants me to upgrade his PC for him. Right now, these are the specs: Intel Core i7-4790K, some Gigabyte motherboard, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 4x 2TB HDDs and 1x 512GB Boot SSD. However, sadly no GPU. Only integrated graphics. He does office work on dual monitors and occasionally some gaming at lowest settings on graphics. Can someone recommend a good graphics card that won't be a bottleneck with the CPU? The system is already fast. I have a budget of £250 ($340 USD)
  15. Thanks for the help and the article. I hope that I can get rid of random frame skipping with the GPU overclock. Thanks!
  16. I got my hands on a Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB. I got it for myself on Christmas purely for experimental reasons. I was wondering if its possible to overclock the CPU, so that it runs just a little bit faster. Nothing extreme, just maybe 100-200MHz more. Can someone help me out? I have active cooling for it and a fan in the case. Thanks EDIT: I no longer have Raspbian installed on it, there is lineageOS 17.1 on the SD card as I am planning to use this thing as a small power efficient TV box
  17. I have someone in town that might fix it, however a sleeer is a good idea. I didn't think of that. Thanks
  18. I got my hands on an Apple Studio CRT 17" (the one that matches the Blue PowerMac G3) for a really good deal of only £10GBP ($13USD) however it has a problem. When I push the power button it glows orange indicating that there is no video signal and soon after, there is a loud bang or explosion sound from the CRT. However, there is no smoke and the thing continues working and can receive a signal but the spark happens again after a few seconds. Can someone help me diagnose this issue? I heard that inside there is a 16" Mitsubishi Diamondtron CRT. I need this thing fixed as I will be sending this off for a full restoration of the plastics in about a week
  19. This Dell S2440L monitor was working fine until yesterday. It was used at my work as a server monitor to view the server activity and all the other statistics but yesterday it stopped working. However, its not fully dead. I can still press the power button and the power LED lights up. However, there is no picture on the screen. And the sound pass through is still working because I can hear the windows sounds. Can someone help me diagnose the issue?
  20. Thank you very much for your reply, this now gives me a lot of confidence about BenQ as I think this monitor is actually very for what I do
  21. I got the BenQ GW2270HM as a replacement monitor for my older Dell S2440L (still a great monitor but a bunch of dead pixels and some burn-in). My question is: Is this monitor good and is BenQ a good brand? It's my first time ever having a BenQ monitor. I chose this model as it was pretty cheap and I don't need anything special for my job (programming and IT remote management)
  22. Today I found an old Pentium 1 PC in a dumpster. I want to use it with MS-DOS or Win98 however, it has a dead floppy drive and its BIOS is too old to support a CD Drive (I think, because it doesnt detect it) Is there a way for me to be able to install Win98 or MS-DOS on my modern machine and then move across the drive to the old PC? Is something like this possible?

  23. I agree, yeah that GPU isnt that good. What would you recommend?
