  1. I'll do anything for safety, currently I'm formatting the drives securely and will reset the NAS afterwards. Hopefully they didn't take the data as its SUPER confidential, but maybe they did.

So, I got a quote for the repair. Insurance doe…

Actually, I think its quite calm and quiet. This is the first time this has happened to anyone on my street. No one ever complains about anything, but given that insurance won't beleive me with the footage, something needs to be sorted out
  3. So, I got a quote for the repair. Insurance doesn't believe me with the footage. WHEN MY F****** CAR IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VIEW!! Neighbor had CCTV footage of them stealing, it happened at 2:42AM and I was most likely asleep then so didn't hear any noises

    I got quoted £2,440 ($3,361 USD)

I think its worth it actually, for a 7 year old car with less than 90k miles

This is when people start suing their insurance companies...

Gotta say though. Sounds like you live in a pretty rough neighborhood.

  4. Got home safely, the car has been taken to my local mechanic who is a Volvo approved specialist and yeah. I missed a bit of work today but I'm told by a friend that I missed nothing special.

F*** Cat and DPF stealers, this is how it ends with your stupidity

  5. I want to do what the title says. I know its possible in Servers as I have a Quadro 4000 and a Mining "GTX 1060" P106 card in my home lab server I only want to do this for experimental purposes

This is awful news: I was driving to work today…

Haha. We actually had a break in at work one time and imagine this: The only thing they stole was our fake plant for some reason. Luckily CCTV caught everything but we didn't care about the plant It could have been worse and now I'm currently being towed away in my car (yay)

Wow, that actually doesn't look too bad. I have seen more expensive systems that are worse. I might give it a shot actually, should prevent thefts. Hopefully my neighbor's CCTV caught the thief and I can prove to my insurance company (and maybe they will do it for free)

I used to have these CCTV cameras from work, I got them when we were upgrading but those turned out to be indoor cameras, so I may have fried them some time ago.. whoops! Should really invest in a better CCTV system. I do have cameras in my house and in my garage, but not yet in my server shed (should probably get cameras for that too) Do you have any recommendations?

I might just be in luck actually, my neighbor has a CCTV system, I'll have to ask him later. Damn that tow truck is taking long and I'm stuck in the cold rainy UK weather

They really are morons. Never happened before thankfully and hopefully its the last time. I'm still waiting for the tow tuck to come and the car disabled the computer and can't start the engine anymore. I guess this might cost 1K upwards sadly, and they still need to reset the computer too which probably won't be cheap either
  11. The NAS was updated yesterday to the latest firmware from the manufacturer. I also changed my router settings at home so theoretically only people that are connected to my local network should be able to access the NAS. I still have absolutely no clue how they got hold of it but thankfully they seem to be disconnected now and all my files are safely backed up (and my friend's files too) Do you think I should just do a scan on the HDDs to check if they left something bad behind?
  12. This is awful news:

I was driving to work today and my Volvo V40 was running louder than usual. I thought maybe the engine was just cold so I let it warm up but then a lot of black smoke started coming out from the exhaust and it was way louder than usual. I quickly shut down the car and looked underneath and I see something no one ever wants to see... my DPF and cat was stolen.

So yea, rip my wallet now

I bought a Zoshi unit and could not be more pleased with price to performance.  This is similar to what purchased (sans I got dome cameras)

Amazon.com : ZOSI H.265+ Full 1080p Home Security Camera System, 5MP Lite CCTV DVR Recorder 4 Channel and 4 x 2MP 1080P Weatherproof Surveillance Bullet Camera Outdoor Indoor with 80ft Night Vision (No Hard Drive) : Camera & Photo

Affordable, and works.  I can watch on my phones, on my PC, on the monitor hooked to the unit, stream over internet when Im not home etc.  You can set zones for motion sense to send you alerts etc its really (to me) crazy how good this system is for the cost.

True story - wanted to spend as little as possible on new CCTV system - spent as little as possible - cannot believe the value of what I got.  I can add 4 more cameras to the system, upgrade the HDD (I slapped a 1tb in it I had sitting around) and continue to get more performance out of it.  (I got an 8 channel unit on sale for around $110, but only came with 4 cameras etc)  I really couldnt believe the value I got lol.  And, it caught my neighbors kid stealing my bar-b-que pit one night so paid for itself already!

  13. Okay, so I have changed the name and IP address. I changed mine and my friend's password (we share this NAS) and hopefully they won't find it again
  14. I have been recently noticing a huge slowdown on my home network. I opened an IP scanner app that a colleague from work coded, and there is a foreign IP address that I don't recognize. Also, my NAS was sending me messages about abnormal behavior on the HDD. It is also always being utilized. I can hear it whirring and clicking all the time. I am making a full backup right now but what can I do to prevent this? If they steal data from that NAS, I will probably get fired. Just a note, I do ALWAYS keep a local backup but some of the files aren't on my local HDD yet. Please, can someone help?
  15. I think you should consider doing the paste. Since the machine you have is coming close to 14 years old
  16. Yikes! That thermal paste was really crusty! It flaked away as soon as I touched it.
  17. Do you know any good laptop stands? I have had many over the years but all of them simply broke down
  18. So I have a MacBook Pro that used to belong to a friend that moved back to Australia. He gave it to me in 2015 and since then, I have never used it. I finally powered it up today and it appears to be the 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo model with the GeForce 320M GPU. The battery has 441 cycles and I'm told its still the original one. What upgrades could I do to it so that it can be useful in 2021?
  19. Sad day today, my gf broke up with me 😞

Hopefully I can get over it soon, we were together for 3 years nearly

  20. I'm currently looking for a good headset and and I have come across the Cloud 2. I have seen multiple youtubers using it. Is it good?
  21. This is my issue: I have a rig that has Windows 10 1809 on it and it keeps complaining about updating. But I simply can't! It will always fail. It will get to about 60% and then say "Windows could not configure one or more system devices. Restart your computer to revert the installation" But what exactly is causing the issue? I noticed if I keep my Corsair K55 keyboard plugged in, it will get to 4% and fail. Do I need a clean install? But the trouble is, I have all my apps and data on separate drives. How would I bring them back? I also have my entire Steam and Epic library on an M.2 SSD
  22. I do quite like clicky switches like the ones I had in my previous keyboard before my cat knocked it off the desk That's why I was looking for a cheap keyboard in the meantime whilst I get my old keyboard fixed
  23. So I was browsing on banggood today and I found a cheap keyboard that has Gateron blue switches. So what exactly are gateron switches? I've never heard of them The keyboard also supports hot swappable switches which I think is neat. So, can someone explain what are Gateron switches? Are they any different than Cherry switches?
