Oppo Pm3 would is probably my favourite closed back headphone in that budget.
They are planar magnetic with a sound signature leaning towards the warm side, with good deep bass, a very nice midrange but a somewhat rolled off treble (still good though).
The Bowers and Wilkins P7 are another good headphone in that price range. Compared to the Oppo PM3's They have a stronger more punchy bass response, but at the expense of bass accuracy and clarity, Midrange is also more recessed. They are a slightly V shaped headphone meaning that bass and treble are boosted in comparison to the Mids. Still a good headphone though, they have a very good build quality, with very little plastic. Soundstage and Treble are in my opinion better on these than the Oppo, But I personally still prefer the Oppo's. Both are quite comfortable, with the Oppo PM3 in my opinion being slightly more comfortable due to them having softer earpads, they also isolated better for me.

Sennheiser Momentum are another headphone in this price range although it has been along time since I listed to it so I can't really draw a comparison it and the other Headphones I listed.

None of the gear you have linked would be my first choice.
For the speakers I would chose something like the JBL LSR305, or maybe the LSR308's.
Vanatoo Transparent 1 would be an even better choice for the speakers, but I am unsure of the availability in Europe.
You don't need to get a separate 'Speaker driver'  and 'Headphone driver'.
Both the speaker driver and Headphone driver you have listed above are both Headphone/DAC combo's, with the Sennheiser  GSX 1200 (and 1000), being amp/dac combos, with fancy shit like virtual surround added to it.

For the Headphones I would get something like the Sennheiser HD600 or HD650. No need to get any gaming headphone crap, if your getting a standalone mic anyways.
The HD600 and HD650, have a relatively high impedance of 300ohms I believe, but they also have a relatively high sensitivity, so they are not to hard to drive.
Your motherboard should be able to power them just fine.
If you do want a DAC or a Headphone amp/dac combo, I have heard many good things about audio gd. They pricing seems decent but they are based in Japan.

As for a MIC, I'll let someone more knowledgeable than me to help you.

    Day 44/45/46

Apologies for the lack of updates, been busy doing them and sorting out my room, so haven't had a chance to update.
    In short, they're finally finished!!
I'll let the photos do most of the talking.
They look ok (I don't think they look incredible or amazing by any stretch, but acceptable), but  they sound incredible.
So so pleased that they sound as good as they do, makes up for the looks and all the effort it took to build them.

Well there we have it, all done at last.
It took forever, but I feel like it's been worth it.
They look good enough, and sound so good that I don't care, lol.
I think if I ever do this again, I'll veneer rather than paint...
I've learnt a hell of a lot and I'm really glad I did the project.
Overall, I think it's cost me about £1200 to do this, including the amplifier and tooling I didn't already have.
That's about £400 per speaker for materials, if you use as much paint as I did, and already have the tools and an amp.
Hope everyone's enjoyed coming along for the ride

Ordered the amp and some foam pads today.
Going to start the final sanding tomorrow evening, as that will be 5 days drying (in the current heat, should be plenty!)
    Very very excited!!

Kenna reacted to rhyseyness in What Do I Need To Use Bookshelf Speakers?
    Yes, you need an amp/receiver.
You don't need to spend as much on this as you do on your speakers.
They're 90W peak power, so just find an amp/receiver which can output about 50W continuous, and has all the inputs you need.
I'd recommend you look for an amplifier, because it will likely be less expensive for a random 50W amp, than for a receiver, which is designed to look good in your living room.

The reason for needing an amp/receiver is that those speakers are passive.
They do not have built in amplification to drive the speakers, so you need to give them an amplified input.
The amp/receiver takes standard inputs (like RCA, SPDIF, etc.), amplifies them, then outputs to your speakers.

    Hope this helps

that literally makes no sense. A device isn't able to drive only a certain up to impedance. A motherboard isn't 20ohm.
also, hd650 being 300ohm doesn't make them much harder to drive, main thing is the sensitivity. Also I can get mine loud from my phone.

    Day 20 and 21

    Forgot to update yesterday.
Coat 3 and 4 of clear went on yesterday and today.
PAINTING IS FINALLY FINISHED (apart from one coat of clear on the bottoms).
I'm really happy with how they're looking, and I'll start sanding at some point next week.
The issue is this stuff (clear coat) takes FOREVER to dry.
The backs were basically as wet as when I painted them yesterday 24 hours later.
Probably leave it until Monday, then clear coat the bottoms, then start sanding on Wednesday or Thursday.
    I'm so excited.
Monday is also pay day so going to order the drivers and crossover components.
I have the wiring and stuffing ready.
Polisher gets delivered tomorrow (f*** polishing and buffing by hand).
THE EXCITEMENT IS REAL AND THE END IS IN SIGHT!

Damn this is making me excited, In my mind I have already made up my mind to build some speakers, the question is when.
Being a Uni student In Australia, I get something called youth allowance, which is basically free money from the government lol (up to 280aud per fortnight), Since I still live at with my parents I don't spend much. In 6 months or so I should hopefully have a good amount saved up, and will get around to selling my current speakers then building some killer ones.

Good Job with the build btw, Personally when I build my own speakers I will probably try and veneer them, with a native aussie veneer.
I will look into the feasibility of building my own amp as well in the future.

Man 17 days is a long time to spend, but I guess I am just impatience by nature.
Best of luck with finishing your speakers, I'm sure your getting pretty excited to get them properly setup and all

Nice good work mate, I'm itching to build a pair of speakers myself and sell off my KEF LS50's when the time comes.
Unfortunately the flat I share has piss poor sound isolation as i can literally hear people coughing upstairs.
I'm thinking about going build a kit from this guy. http://www.selahaudio.com/kits/, his designs look pretty damn nice.
Anyways good luck with your build, I look forward to your posts.

I own the HD800 as well. Have them modded with the superdupont resonator.
Using a Matrix Mstage HPA2 dac/amp combo. (DAC part is a burr brown  PCM1793)
That said I am also kinda curios if I could get a better amp/dac combo without spending to much more.

Hello there guys, i am currently staying in japan with my grandma. My grandpa who has been deceased for about 10 years now, was into his classical music and audio gear, One of the rooms in my grandmas house, was sourcely used by grandpa for listening to his music, and until now i have never been really intrested in it( Iam 18 now).
THe speakers he had are are a pair of Tannoy stirling HE speakers, and i personally think they are the best speaker i have heard. I will admit that i have never really listened to expensive speakers only headphones. The speakers are paired with a Mccormack power drive dna 0.5 a and a quad66 preamp and cd player.
My grandma being the lovely lady that she is said I can have it all, if I organise and pay for shipping back to Australia where I live.
What are your guys thoughts, is this something I should do. Again I have very little knowledge about speakers.

The speakers weigh 23kg each, the amp another 15kg ish and the speakers have a volume of 85 litres.

The bitfenix spectra pro 200mm are multi-fit so they should fit with no problem in the case, but the noise from the front 200mm fan is caused by the mesh that goes over the fan. I have a 650D and it has the same front design and I cut the mesh and replaced it the 200mm fan with two 120mm fans.
