  2. 280X is an Asus DC2 so I was digging through my parts bin and I found my old venerable 280x. I've moved my 1070 to mine with nicehash, and it runs at stock with fans at 70%. it's doing fine. I remember what happened to it, I was building someone a pc for photo editing and that card was going to be in the machine. then one day, while building the PC, the 280x simply stopped working. I was worried about a power surge, or damage to the system, but that was years ago, and the PC I built for my client is chugging along, doing great, with no issues. so how can a gpu just die, have no visable damage, still light up when plugged in, and provide no display? I'd love to use it for my personal rig as the HD 6870 I've got in there is super loud (1 fan), and I just spent money on cooling to make my pc more quiet. I haven't tried to install it in my personal rig because it's a real schlepp to pull my machine out put the card in. I'm using almost every port and slot on my mobo, so if it's going in there, I want it to stay in there! I also dont want to damage my system, however unlikely that may be. Any ideas? theres no bios button or switches on the card, the card has a white light when power supply cable are plugged in, and it turns red if I dont have both cables in, so it seems to know that it's receiving power, and the fans spin as well. I'm not sure if there's a post beeping when using it, I'll have to double check that.

  4. okay well, a 1070 ti is an older, less efficient gpu, and may have been drawing more power. Call a local computer shop and ask if they have a tester in their workshop.
  5. I highly recommend finding a way to verify if your PSU is the problem. does your motherboard have onboard video? Does the system still crash with the card removed and the same PSU?
  6. That is a sexy work station! Please max out the ram, for great justice! What do you use it for?
  7. get incremental upgrades! Buy a new PSU (750 watts at least), Max out your CPU to an FX 8350, Max out your ram, and buy a nice fat air cooler with support for modern sockets. Do that over time and when you're ready to go to a new platfor, all you'll need to do is upgrade motherboard, cpu and ram, instead of buying all the other parts at the same time.
  8. did you buy this off of ebay? open a return and say it was damaged, don't bother trying to fix it.
  9. if booting like that caused a failure, those components were likely faulty. I'd hold off on any kind of repair and wait until you contact asus; 3rd party repairs might cause issues with your warranty, unless best buy promises to replace the board.
  10. so I just dropped the voltage to 1.3 volts, and i've run cinebench R20 five times. Seems stable, though I did try 1.275 volts, and it quit half way through, then I ran again and there was a BSOD. I tried a few ranges between 1.275 and landed on 1.3, which has dropped the average temp down 52 ~ 53 degrees C; about 4 degrees less than before. No core goes above 58 degrees C during a five run streak of cinebench. I'm scoring between 1797 and 1803 pretty consistently.

  12. remember, these are canadian neo-pesos, and I bought the 980x and X5690 right when ryzen 1st gen came out, so these six core chips were still considered a good value for that price.
  13. so is 1.35 the standard voltage for the 32nm chips correct? I wanna try and undervolt my system and see how low I can go, and still maintain 4.2ghz. I can't believe I spent 200 bucks on this 980X lol, the 5690 was only 120!
