  1. I am not planning to play games at max, id maximize for frames any day, but id like to go as high as i can, while still keeping 144hz. The most demanding game I currently play is Monster Hunter World (Iceborne).
  2. That video isn't saying that much about the actual performance I could realistically have, as the person in the video has some options enabled that eat graphics performance while only providing menial visual upgrades (mainly Volume Rendering Quality, that just makes the game look foggy and eats about 10 - 20 fps for me at minimum), and the new DLC also changed quite a bit of stuff with even higher CPU usage if the steam reviews are to be believed. I'm not saying that this is the best upgrade I could make right now, but would a 9900k be a better investment if I want to keep it for as long as possible without upgrading? I really need a new CPU, that much I'm certain of, but it seems to me that not buying the best chip for gaming is kind of waste of my time if I would like to use it for as long as I possibly can. Btw, thanks for all the advice
  3. I have a 1080p 144hz monitor, which is why this is what im aiming for. I will probably get myself a better monitor some time in the future, but I can't upgrade all of my system at once (1440p 144hz seem sick, but i couldn't hit that in games without upgrading my ENTIRE system, which is why I'm not aiming for that). The 1080 is still good enough for most games that an upgrade to a 2080 isn't really worth it IMO, id rather wait a generation or two for a significant upgrade. I'd even be willing to hardmod it somewhere down the line and overclock it to keep it going for a while longer. I'm aiming to get something that I really don't need to worry about for quite a while. So when the 3080 (or whatever is an upgrade I need for games I actually play) comes out I can just plop that in and call it a day. I currently can't run Monster Hunter World at 1080p at 144hz, I'm struggling to even keep 60 with the graphics at something id actually want from that game (I turned down the settings, but its not what I want from the game long term). My current CPU is running at 100% constantly while playing that, and its probably the most demanding game i currently actively play.
  4. That's a GPU problem though and I'm not gonna get an RTX card any time soon, the performance increase is not woth it, i only game at 1080p.
  5. But 10 Percent is quite a lot, isn't it? I'd prefer to have something that I can keep in my System for a while without having to worry about upgrading again in the near future. I do see that a 9900k is quite expensive, but if I get myself something cheaper only to upgrade again in the next two years that's still kind of a waste isn't it?
  6. But the i7 doesn't have hyperthreading, does it? It seems like a bad value to spend that much money on a Processor that doesn't even have such a relatively basic feature. I'd like something that'll keep me going throughout the next few years. I'll probably want to upgrade my graphics card in around two generations, while keeping my CPU for a while longer, so more (virtual) cores would be something to look out for, right? Is the performance difference really that small though? In the benchmarks I saw, the Intel CPUs where almost 10-20 fps ahead in most games, with the AMD chips only catching up in certain games. Even if they aren't the best value, the I9 is ahead of any Ryzen in most games, or at least that's what most benchmarks show. I'm not certain that my Graphics card won't completely negate that, but id probably like to get the i9 if it is still that much better at games.
  7. I'm finally at the point where I want to upgrade my CPU, but I'm not quite sure what kind of Processor to get. I've got a 1080 and would need to upgrade most of my other Components (I've still got DDR3 Ram, old Motherboard etc). The CPU I'm currently running is an i7 4770k overclocked to 4.25GHZ sustained on all cores, 16gb of DDR3 ram, and an Asus Maximus Hero VI. I would really like to be able to hit 144fps in most games at the best graphics I can with my GPU. I've been thinking about getting a Ryzen 3700x/3900x, but when I looked at benchmarks both the 3700x and the 3900x seemed quite behind (in gaming, not productivity). The only thing I do on my PC that actually needs performance is gaming. If I upgrade now, I'd prefer to have something that lasts me a long time, even if it costs a little more. Would an i9 9900k be worth the extra money if I don't want to upgrade in the next 3/4 years? Would my current GPU be a huge bottleneck, or is a 1080 still acceptable for general 1080p gaming with high but not crazy high graphics at 144hz? I'm also not quite sure what motherboard to go with, if I choose the 9900k, so if you have any suggestions on that (around the 200€/$ price point) I'd be glad to hear em ^^.
