  1. Mostly just higher benchmark scores. Gaming didn’t noticeable change. The cores I considered mostly bonus points and future proofing, I was more interested in the potential 4.7+ ghz overclocks that the 5960X could do.
  2. @Electronics Wizardy I went up to 4.2 but ended up turning it back to stock because Haswell doesn’t benefit all that much from overclocking. There was definitely cooling headroom for higher though.
  3. Hey, so I’ve got a i7-6800K in my desktop PC and an X99A-II motherboard that I’ve grown rather fond of. I saw some i7-5960X CPUs on eBay that are actually fairly low priced. With custom loop cooling + aggressive overclocking how much more performance do you think I’d be able to get? GPU is a Vega 56
  4. I mean, nothing here is really bad per se. Depends on the resolutions and frame rates you want to play at. Over clocking that 4790K could probably get it in spitting distance of most modern processors if you’ve got the cooling. The 980 ti certainly isn’t setting the world on fire for 4K gaming but it’ll at least match/come close to most budget/mid-range GPUs. Mid/high end are sort of an upgrade for you but I wouldn’t go for it personally. I wait until I can at least double my performance for a similar amount of money spent, and with RTX second gen and big Navi at least in the rumor mill it’s probably worth sitting with what you’ve got.
  5. HDR doesn’t actually work on windows, you’re better off getting an IPS if you want good colors.
  6. As far as I know the windows store atmos is for headphones, but I could be wrong
  7. Yeah I think that's about where I'm at, I'll probably be going with the 850 then. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the insights! What’s your ballpark estimate on power draw for the i9 system?
  9. At 20$ more for 200+ watts I’m definitely willing to pay more, I’m just wondering at the value proposition for the jump from 850 to 1000 for +40$.
  10. Side note, thank you for all the prompt replies!
  11. This is true, but the next chip I buy will likely be when DDR5 debuts, and barring major improvements in the value sector it will most certainly NOT be an intel processor. I will be going to college for an as yet unspecified data science degree, so that’s a use case to consider for the future.
  12. Hi all, after finishing my watercooling loop I have been made promptly aware that the loudest component in my PC was actually the power supply, a CX750M. While not a bad power supply by any standard, the fan is quite loud at the loads I’m putting on it(300 watt Vega 56 @ 1.7 Ghz something something load i7-6800K @ 4.1 Ghz). I was looking at replacing it with an RM unit, and I was wondering if the RM1000 would be worth the extra 40$ over the 850 for my use case, in which I’d prefer silence, but if there’s no meaningful difference I’d rather not spend more than I have to. Thanks in advance for any and all advice!
