  1. Alright, thanks for the clarification. I'll take your advise on that one! Hearing what you lads are is saying, 5700 XT it is! Thanks for the advise!
  2. Asus Tuf X570 is better? Do you have any references / reason as to why this is the case? With motherboards I'm kind of lost, I know they are important as the inter connectors. But I have little knowledge on the parts themselves. BTW where I am at, I find Asus Tuf X570 for the same price as the Steel and the Aorus. Streaming will not be the focus, I'd just like to occasionally stream a bit. Wonder whether (performance wise) that warrants the additional 150+ bucks.
  3. Laptop is still usable. I'm worried I might get caught up in the never ending "wait for better stuff" cycle. You expected that waiting for Ampere and zen 3 would give substantial boosts to performance that makes it worth waiting on? No easy way to resolve this. more going with the line of taught of: if it's good now, it will most likely run the next gen stuff okay.
  4. Sup ladies and gentleman, after postponing it for two years and getting more and more frustrated with my laptop, I finally said “fuck it” and decided to just build it. I used some of the sections on the LTT forum and Logical Increments: to formulate the parts list below, and would like to know whether my choices could be improved/ if you have any other advise. 1 Budget & Location I live in western Europe. I’m not willing to spend more than 1500 euros. 2 Aim The aim will be my main desktop for the coming (hopefully 6-7) years. I generally use my computer at least 8 hours a day, I’d estimate 14 hours on average. I use it for study work (for work at home. I'll keep my laptop around to take to Uni) and to play games. In addition to this I would like to stream some games to my friends using e.g. Twitch. Since I’m building a new pc I thought it was a great time to attempt using Linux alongside Windows. As such I would want to go for a dual boot setup. 3 programs & games programs: Python, Matlab, COMSOL (and sometimes Solid Works), inktscape and krita (and sometimes medibang paint pro). games: Civ V, Total War Warhammer (1&2), league of legends, factorio, ( modded) Minecraft (rip my RAM), Witcher 3, ARK survival evolved, GTA V, and some lighter indie games such as Don’t Starve Together, Stardew Valley, terraria, FTL. I want to play ARK, Horizon zero dawn and NieR Automata at actual playable frame rates while not looking like garbage. 4 Monitors I’m planning on at least running three monitors at 1920*1080 and might add a fourth. I currently own one 144hz 1080p monitor (an Asus VG248QE ) which I was planning to use as my primary monitor. Planning to buy an additional two on the cheap (possibly second hand) as secondary monitors. 5 Peripherals Currently already own a good mouse, mousepad and headphones. I will still need a full size mechanical keyboard (one of my friends recommended me a Ducky One Dkon1608 ). I’m also looking at getting a microphone, I would like a good/decent mic to go with the pc. I have heard people say that’s it is a better investment to buy an XLR microphone and a simple amplifier, however I don’t know much about this any recommendations are welcome. 6 Why am I upgrading? I am upgrading because my current daily driver is a 6 year old laptop. It is have more and more stability issues. As such I thought it was about time to upgrade to a new system. And as previously mentioned I’d like to play some games at higher graphic qualities at a good frame rate. Note: I do not really care about the looks of the machine itself, plain black is fine. I’m mostly concerned with the functionality, ease of use (think good dust filter in the case) and the cost. 7 Other: replacing my laptop: have no current desktop parts. planning on buying in the upcoming two weeks (7-7-2020 till 19-7-2020). Formulated parts list: CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (in addition ~€166 Videocard: Considering two options, still not 100% on this. Leaning towards the 5700XT, I think it will suffice for my applications. INNO3D GeForce RTX 2070 Super iChill X3 Ultra €579 or Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 5700XT €395 Dedicated CPU cooler: Be quiet! Dark Rock 4 CPU-Cooler Top-Flow €65 Motherboard: Considering two options, leaning towards AORUS. GIGABYTE AORUS X570 AORUS ELITE, socket AM4 motherboard €209 ASRock X570 Steel Legend €205 RAM: Either 16 or 32 Gigs of RAM. Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz €65 or €130 PSU: EVGA 750W Supernova 750 G1+ Modular (80+Gold) €113 Assuming use of the RTX 2070 super would result in a cost of nearly 1200 (1197). Sapphire pulse would give slightly more than 1000 (1013). Things we still need but I have little knowledge on what is good/what to take into considerations: Storage: I was kind of planning to go for a full SSD build for the overall speed. Don’t know which specific SSD’s would be ideal. “Worst case” I would most likely end up buying cheapest 2 TB SSD. Although I would not mind spending some money on a good SSD if that does make a major difference for e.g. longevity of the system. Case: Logical increments mentions the Corsair Obsidian Series 750D Airflow for €143. And a friend recommended me a NZXT H510i Tower. Although I know airflow and therefore case is important, I have no knowledge in this area. I hope I addressed most questions upfront. If you have any questions/feedback/complaints, feel free to ask
