  1. So here's this link https://apps.samsung.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.samsung.android.kidsinstaller&cId=000005755099 I haven't found a comprehensive video on these kids mode apps and launchers, so I'm asking Linus to try it out, because, as I understand it, he has kids to test it out on (that sounds terrible) and, by giving this and other kids mode apps to his kids, just see how fast his kids can break out of the closed sandbox and access content that is less than kid-friendly
  2. So it would be nice to see a video on this, but for now I just want an answer. If I create an external Steam Drive and set it up next to my TV, could multiple devices using multiple steam accounts all use the games installed on said drive? Would games installed but not purchased be recognized?
  3. Everyone knows that the switch doesn't even come close to matching the capabilities of current-gen hardware, or even last gen hardware. So why is everyone making this comparison knowing full-well that ps5 and xbox s/x is going to blow the switch out of the water? I'm looking for a better comparison. Namely, arkham trilogy on Steam Deck compared to Switch. And nobody's done it yet. Why not? Both are portable systems targeting more or less the same market. Even if the Steam Deck is more than double the price of Switch, it's still a far more valid comparison than a large console or top of the line gaming pc that can't leave the spot you set it up. Ok, after all that, here's what I found. Steam deck can play Asylum and city at a locked 60 with high settings. knight you'll need to either lock it at 30 with high settings or low with inconsistent 60. It's still better than Switch.
  4. The specific trend I don't like is not having Nything available on local storage. When you have DRM-Free music and movie files, it's only a difference in storage medium, and even mechanical hard drives are more durable than DVDs (although I wouldn't recommend testing their durability for a number of reasons. Not sure what would happen if there was a breach in a helium-filled drive.) The problem is nowadays there aren't any legitimate ways to download music and movies. Everyone wants to move to streaming, and there are far too many failure points for my liking for streaming to completely replace local copies. If your internet at home fails for any reason, you can't watch any of your movies or listen to any of your music. Here's just a short list of the failure points that could break your access to streaming 1. The wifi or ethernet in your system breaks, either from software or hardware issues. (That's 2 each depending on how you get your internet.) 2. Your router could fail. 3. Your router's software could fail. 4. Your ethernet cable breaks (for whatever reason.) 5. Your modem fails. 6. Satellite exclusive: the weather disrupts your internet connection. 7. Your house loses power. 8. Your ISP experiences technical difficulties. 9. Your streaming service goes down. 10. Your content is removed due to licensing issues. (Darnit, Discovery!) If you want to avoid any of these problems, well, your legitimate options are extremely limited. You could rip your own DVDs, but most of these companies see that as no better than piracy. And besides, downloading movies and music is way easier and doesn't require a disc drive.
  5. Looking to sell my old gaming laptop. Asus Tuf fx505dy Ryzen 5 3550h Rx560x dGPU 1TB samsung ssd 2TB HDD 2x8GB Ram Good condition aside from the power brick. That thing is usable but I don't like the look of mildly exposed copper wire in one spot. Amazon currently has the computer with stock hardware (256GB POS* sn520 storage, 8GB RAM) for $799. Ebay is...weird. they range from $500 to $700 for the whole thing, but again with that stock ssd. I think I could probably get $1000 for it. My mom thinks it's only worth $200, but also exclusively uses old macbooks and thinks switching out hardware on a laptop is a waste of money. *from what I've read, WD decided to run the stock ssd at a higher frequency than normal ssds without telling the software provider. This means the stock drive will cause the computer to randomly freeze, forcing a hard reboot. It also prevents any and all aftermarket os installations.
  6. I'm wondering if any of you have heard of a website called jlcpcb. https://jlcpcb.com/ From what I can see, you can have your own pcb custom printed. Now the question is, can you get a completely custom pc motherboard.
  7. Despite the small size, the copyrigt text at the bottom is actually legible. So how big are these tiny windows. The game displayed is the pokemon super gold 97 rom hack, a recreation of the 1997 Nintendo Spaceworld demo.
  8. Just for fun, I decided to see how gameboy and gameboy advance games would look running at their original resolution on my phone, so using wikipedia to find out the exact pixel size of the gameboy and gameboy advance screens. Here's what I got.
  9. So prior to getting Starlink, (greatest satellite based internet ever. Thanks Elon) we had Viasat internet which had an average of 500Kbps and an average ping of about 600ms. Streaming any quality of video was impossible. It would stop every 5 seconds to buffer a video at 144p. Then I found a Youtube alternative app that allows me to preload videos, and while it did take forever to download, I was able to watch decent quality video from start to finish without the need to pause midway through to buffer. This is the trade off between a local copy and streaming. And in my opinion, the upside of having a local copy far outweighs the downside. The only problem is, there is a frightening amount of content that is no longer possible to legitimately obtain a local copy. For a lot of music and movies, piracy is your only option for locally stored media. Storefronts that used to distribite drm free digital copies like Amazon have completely switched over to streaming only business models, and for many areas across the globe that simply isn't a viable option. The good news is that for the most part it appears that anti-piracy laws have become blue laws (that is, laws that aren't enforced due to cultural disdain) law enforcement won't arrest you for piracy because they see it as too much work for not enough of a cultural and legal victory, and many companies overlook piracy because the cost of going after pirates isn't worth the legal fees and cultural backlash they experience. There are definitely exceptions to this. Nintendo is the most litigious company when it comes to piracy, and they are universally despised because of their stance on the issue. Yet despite their efforts, Nintendo games and software are probably the most pirated games right now, for the mere reason that Nintendo themselves haven't offered a legitimate method of playing their massive backlog of games. So yeah, as long as your concious is clear, don't worry about it. The one in a million chance you do get a visit that requires lawyers, it usually means you've stepped well beyond the boundaries of simple piracy for the sake of personal enjoyment.
  10. So I'd like to figure out how much of the screen is being lost by watching movies and playing games in a non native aspect ratio. For example, My s22 Ultra boasts a 6.8 inch diagonally 2k screen at 19.3:9. Acording to wikipedia, it has 3088x1440 pixels. The most recent LTT video looks to be shot pretty wide, but not wide enough to fill the whole screen. So I need to figure out how many inches is the screen being used while wathing the video, and what's being lost.
  11. I've disabled chrome browser. All the 3rd party browsers I've tested function without the use of Android system webview, so my guess is they have their own webview included in the app itself.
  12. I personally use Jsaux cables. I haven't gad a problem with them so far. I've also hear that Ugreen is a good brand. All these cables are braided nylon, much more durable than a rubber coating.
  13. Go to the app settings and force stop to remove bugged notifications.
  14. Just tried out brave browser. The ability to input text in a topic is completely missing.
  15. So Ixbe decided to try an set up an HTPC in the living room for Media and moderate gaming. The closest thing to what I want is a mini pc with an external disc drive, but I'm wondering if there's a way to commision a fully custom build, including potentially a custom motherboard. I'm hoping to get an HTPC in the form factor of a DVD/Blu-Ray player. Budget (including currency): the setup with rhe Mini PC Comes out to a total of about $1100 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: local media playback, streaming, moderate gaming. I'm hoping to be able to emulate yp to PS3 games. (Infamous, Ratchet & Clank Future, Lair, Sonic unleashed next-gen) Other details Unless anyone has any suggestions, I've decided on using Linux mint for the OS. After seeing Windows 11 on a computer at Costco, I was immediately repulsed by the new design. Unfortunately I've yet to find a frontend that handles both gaming and emulation as well as movies and tv shows. As it is, I'm probably using Steam Deck GUI for games and emulation and Kodi for movies.
  16. https://www.louderwithcrowder.com/scientist-exposes-google So beyond the political subject highlighted, the video goes over several points that make Google super Evil. So I'm just going to go over a few of the topics covered in the video 1. Gmail has everything you've written. Yeah, every email you've recieved, every email you've sent, nasty emails you wrote and deleted. Google has saved them all. Every attachment and link you've sent or recieved also gets read by a google employee. Which is why if anyone sends you something they don't like, you won't get it. They've also completely blocked people from recieving mail from Protonmail. The option is to either have everyone on gmail, which has the above issues, or everyone stops using gmail, a far more preferable option. 2. Monopoly enforcement unfortunately if you're a business that relies on google search for people to find you, you can be deranked on google for not using gmail. Thhat's scummy. Now I'd like to hear from the employees over at ltt if they've experienced any of this. As a moderately sized company, people will begin to notice if you're not the top result when searching "LTT". And of course you get deranked for using other alternatives to google products as well. 3. Google search is heavily manipulated. so try this. Pick any politician's name and search it on google vs other search engines. You'll often get completely different results depending on who you're looking for. As the video goes over, this has a major nefarious reason for doing so. 4. Youtube is scaring the Sh*t out of your kids! Hiding explicit, pornographic, and violent content in what may appear to be a crappy kids cartoon is apparently common on youtube, and you can often find outright porn on Youtube Kids. Fortunately If you've watched "DHMIS", you already know that there's horrific content on Youtube masquerading as kids cartoons. 5. Stop using anything google. so I already use Protonmail as my default email client. As for everything else, there's a billion search engines to choose from, even Yahoo is still around. (Here it is. https://www.yahoo.com/) Unfortunately my family is stubbornly stuck on Verizon, and that's limited my options in smartphones. I currently use an s22 ultra with all the google services and location disabled. At the very least, it appears to have an impact on advertising and location based search results. And for those using the "private platform" excuse, I don't think assassinating your critics' family is covered under that excuse. Yeah, that's in the video as well. Obviously the video isn't on Youtube.
  17. nope. glitch still occurs here. Seems to ve triggered by typing a period.
  18. Fennec f-droid tested. Functions fine on this forum, but glitch occurs on Openweb comment section.
  19. Summary Sony announces Playstation 5 Slim. Quotes My thoughts It's about damn time! Everyone knows the og PS5 is huge, and likely an issue fo4 many simply because we don't have the space to put it anywhere. I'm looking to Linus and Austin's review.
  20. So awhile back I wrote on this forum about an issue my browser was having with online forums. After checking othe forks of firefox I found it to be a problem with all fenix based browsers. I'm currently using DuckDuckGo browser to communicate on this forum. For reference, when attempting to post using a fenix-based browser, the post will be forcibly reformatted and randomly add spaces to the text. This problem occurs on online forums and comment sections.
  21. Everyone I've found online says HL:S is a bad port. Unfortunately everyone I've encountered talking about it either is using windows using Directx, or doesn't mention their OS, which likely means they're running the game in Windows using Directx. But the game also has a native Linux port using opengl, and I haven't found a single comparison of that version. Are all the graphical bugs still there? Are some of the physics and ai bugs fixed by using the linux version. Can soemone please test out the linux version of Half-Life Source?
  22. Remember when companies had fun with their copy protection? Here's a playlist of things developers have done instead of shitty drm like Denuvo. I want to see more stuff like this. We can have fun instead of giving legitimate players an inferior product.
  23. You know what could cause gpu prices to drop? If an apu can do the same thing as a dgpu. I thought maybe in about five or six years we'd get an apu capable of raytracing. Then I saw this video. so maybe 5-6 years was too long. Maybe 2-3.
  24. Browser, version and OS: iceraven 2.5 1 samsung galaxy s22 ultra android os (latest version) Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened? What happened? the page completely reformats itself and randomly shifts spaces around What did you expect to happen? Link to a page where it happened, if applicable: this page is preformatted. look at it now. Screenshots of the issue, if applicable: Any other relevant details: If it's a cloudflare error, what was the ray ID from the bottom of the error page?
  25. Original post I'm creating this thread as an extended discussion for users. I personally believe that the video suggestions should each have their own suvforums so users can share ideas on a topic. This one in particular, taking a look at the equivalent gaming PCs available at the start of each console generation. How do they compare to the hardware in the consoles they're competing against? I'm mainly interested in the seventh generation, the 360/ps3/wii era, where it seems pc ports got neglected in favor of console ports. If the pc did recieve a game, it was most likely the wii version, not the 360/ps3 versions with considerably better graphics. If it was ported, it was either buggy and/or missing content. Examples: Prince of persia 2008 (dlc is console exclusive) Star wars the force unleashed 1 & 2 Sonic unleashed Cars 2
