Sneaki's Achievements

  1. yes i did and yes it is drawing some amps ... it is usually between .01 to .07 when i press the powerbutton on the back (which has no obvious effect).
  2. Hello Guys and Girls, I have a relatively old mac mini from mid-2010 which didn't start-up for some reason (my father can't remember what exactly happened) so I tried to fix it by myself. When trying to start it up and connecting it to the outlet nothing would happen (picture 1), because of that and because there was no reaction at all I thought that the power supply is probably dead or damaged. That's why I ordered a new power supply for my model on eBay (same specs and it seems to be an original one (picture 2&3)) which arrived a few days ago. Long story short, I was very careful with handling the power supply as well as the other parts. I inspected the logic board (picture 4-7) but wasn't able to find any obvious issues (no bad smell, broken capacitors, resistors, etc.) After reconnecting and double-checking everything I tried to start-up the mac mini again but had the same situation than before. The Mac just won't power up and not even bring the fan to kickstart nor the front LED to blink or light up. I made some close-up shots of the connector on the power supply (picture 8 ) and the thing that made me suspicious was that on the cable that connects the power supply with the logic board the one side has space for 10 pins but the other side only has space for 9 (picture 9-11). It seems like the connector has one free slot. After looking up similar stories on google i found some forum posts that claim that the middle pin is used for something that's called "iSense" which seems to be some kind of proprietary Apple thing that checks the power supply before giving current to the logic board but I can't really find anything about "iSense" nor about how to trick it or if it's even the source of the issue. Does someone have information about "iSense" or on how to fix the issue / any ideas? I tried: Power cycling the device (unplugging, waiting some days, trying again) Obviously, I switched the power supply so that shouldn't be the issue reseated ram, checked all sensor cables and pins (i heard that this could prevent a boot even though I'm not even close to posting) changed the 3V Battery on the board (nothing happened) I also tried to "CMD, OPTION, R, P" Shortcut to reset the PRAM without any success This is my last hope so maybe someone can help me or have made similar experiences. I'm sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes, if something is unclear I can try to explain it again or in other words. I also hope that this is the right forum to post this in, sorry if it isn't. Greetings from Germany, Jan
  3. Ok, so i can't really use the GT 710... that sucks a bit because of another issue i have with my Setup. When i connect more than 2 Monitors to my GTX 1080 Ti my Freesync won't work correctly. The screen will get black every time i get less than 47 FPS which is quiet often in games when you're stuck in the loading screen, opening menus, etc. Already tried to fix it with CRU and other programs but without success... so i am probably stuck with 2 Monitors
  4. Hello Guys, the problem and the given situation are a bit complex so i try my best to explain everything so maybe someone can help me. If anything is unclear or not understandable (grammar, wording, etc.) please ask. English is not my native language. PC Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @4.2 GHz 1st GPU: Zotac GTX 1080 ti AMP! Edition 2nd GPU: Zotac GT 710 Motherboard: MSI X470 Gaming Pro Max Memory: 2 x 8GB Patriot Viper DDR4 3600 MHz CL16 Software / Driver: Windows 10 2004 up to date (28th of June 2020) Nvidia 451.48 Game ready driver Monitors: 1. Acer XF270HU 2560x1440 144Hz 27" Freesync --> connected to GTX 1080 Ti 2. Dell 1908FP 1280x1024 75Hz 19" --> connected to GT 710 3, Dell 1907FP 1280x1024 75Hz 19" --> connected to GT 710 4. Dell U2212HM 1920x1080 60Hz 22" --> connected to GTX 1080 Ti 5. HP ZR24w 1920x1200 60Hz 24" --> connected to GT 710 The Issue: No matter what program i try to run on the monitors that are connected to the second gpu will stutter. If i try to playback a video (Plex, Netflix, YouTube, Twitch, local, etc.) it will be played back with a very low and unstable framerate (looks like 5-20 fps with freezes every other second) If i try to browse the web with no matter what browser (tested Brave, Chrome, Firefox, Edge) the websites will lag aswell so i would say it's not an issue that's depending on video playback. As far as my understanding goes the program is rendered on the systems most powerful gpu (which should be the 1080 Ti in my case... sorry for the pun) so i don't see why the programs are having bad performance. The same programs run without any issue on the two monitors that are connected to the 1080 Ti so it's not really an rendering issue either i would say. Things i tried: Uninstalling Nvidia Drivers with DDU, installing drivers again --> no effect Switched Driver-Mode from "Game-Ready" to "Studio" within GF Experience--> no effect Tried out the Developer drivers (before they went public for everyone (speaking of Nvidia 451.22) --> no effect Updated from Windows 10 1909 to Windows 10 2004. --> no effect Switching up monitor connections between the two GPUs (plugging the DVI Cable out of the GT 710 and into the GTX 1080 Ti and the issue was gone) Checking my temps --> Max 80C° on the 1080 Ti, 65C° on the 710. Enabling planned GPU Acceleration (the original reason why i updated that early to Windows 10 2004) I tried playing around with the Settings in Windows where you can choose which GPU is used to run programs, it always and only shows the GTX 1080 Ti as an option. My Goal: I just want to use the GT 710 as an adapter to be able to use more monitors. All the rendering / heavy part should be done by the GTX 1080 Ti. I just want to get rid of the lags, the stuttering and the freezes. I hope that someone maybe is able to help me or has similar experiences with that issue. Thanks
  5. I tried two external HDDs and the cables are alright, as i said, it works without a problem on my main PC
  6. So i currenty don't have / use a USB to Ethernet Adapter. I just tested copying a video file from my external hdd to my internal ssd over USB. My External HDDs are both USB 3.0 (with the SS Logo marked on the connector)
  7. I tested it right now to make sure im not dumb but no matter what my destination or file directory is (internal SSD, external HDD) and no matter which Port i use i won't get over 40MB/s ... on any other PC both of my external HDDs max out at 120MB/s ... none of the USB 3 Ports on my Laptop are blue (even though i know it's not a 100% call that they are 2.0 it's more likely)
  8. It should be this one: HP Pavilion 17-g115ng
  9. I actually got this Laptop as a gift from my family in 2016. Bad thing is my family isn't really into tech so they didn't bother checking the specs... It was like a blind gift. It got a i5 6200U and a GeForce 940M with original 8GB Ram (updated to 16) The only bad things are the ports and connections...
  10. You're probably right. I just use an excuse to use my Laptop if i'm honest... i currently use Ubuntu and use it as a Plex Server so i thought why not make a server out of it. Thanks for your answer!
  11. Hey Guys, I'm new and not a native speaker / writer so please be nice So my goal is to use my current spare laptop from 2016 as my Home NAS. Software wise i would probably go with Ubuntu LTS. The Main issue is that my Laptop only got USB 2.0, WiFi 2,4 GHz and 100 mbps LAN so no matter what connection i try to use i will get bottlenecked speed wise. Because my Laptop also has a DVD Drive which uses a basic SATA connection my idea was to just uninstall my DVD drive, get a SATA cable and connect it to a RJ-45 Gigabit adapter. I searched a while on Amazon, eBay, etc. but wasn't able to find any kind of SATA to RJ-45 Adapter pre-build BUT lots of USB-A and USB-C to RJ-45 one. My next idea was to get a SATA to USB-A or USB-C connector and then plug-in a basic USB-A / USB-C to RJ-45 Gigabit Adapter. I'm not really that much into protocols / network tech and wasn't able to find any forum thread in this or an other forum which would answer my question. So is it possible to go this way or will it work because of something i oversee? I hope someone can help me. Greetings from Germany Jan
