  1. Hi guys, today I helped my friend upgrade his HP pre built and now there are some black screen issues. Background: The pc is an HP Pavilion Power Desktop - 580-023w which has an i5-7400, 2 x 4 gb ddr4, gtx 1060, 1TB hdd, 300 watt psu, and whatever craptastic hp motherboard. We upgraded the psu to a Corsair CX650M, the RAM to Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8gb ddr4, the graphics card to my old Powercolor Hellhound rx 6600xt, and we added in a WD Blue sa510 1tb sata ssd. The PC booted into windows just fine with the new parts and the old graphics drivers were removed and the new ones installed. The Problem: During gaming the PC will temporarily black screen (sound stays playing) for a few seconds and the time in between the black screens seems to decrease the longer the game is played. There doesn’t seem to be any warnings or errors in event viewer related to the problem. What We’ve Tried: We’ve tried using both the most recent amd graphics drivers and drivers from December and the problem persists. I thought this would fix it since I’ve had driver issues with the card before but it doesn’t seem like that’s the issue. I plan on doing a fresh install of windows, updating the bios (the newest bios on HP’s website is from June 2018), and installing even older drivers to see if that fixes it. If anyone has any other suggestions for troubleshooting steps that would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Budget (including currency): 1000 USD Country: United States Hey all, I'm working to help my friend build his first PC. He's planning to use it mostly for gaming. He isn't the most tech savvy, so I'm trying to go with more "reliable" parts. This is the current parts list I put together: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xh9rqm CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($189.00 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard ($104.99 @ Amazon) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($54.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($59.99 @ B&H) Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB VENTUS 3X OC Video Card ($379.99 @ Newegg) Case: NZXT H510 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Best Buy) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GA 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ Amazon) Total: $988.93 Any help picking out some better/more cost-effective components would be greatly appreciated.
  3. From the looks of it the SN550 seems to have slightly better performance than the other two, so I guess I'll go with that.
  4. Yeah thats what I was thinking, I was just wondering if there were any better deals to be had.
  5. It doesn't really matter to me, whichever one will get me better performance for what I'd be using it for. Looking online, I saw that either the crucial p1 or intel 665p might be good options.
  6. Hi everyone I'm looking for help picking an upgrade for my system. I'm currently using the Samsung 860 EVO 500gb. I'm looking for the best 1tb ssd I can get for around $100. It would be used as my main os drive, for games, and other programs. Thank you!
  7. Unfortunately reinstalling the drivers didn't help. It happened again with the same exact errors in event viewer. Is there anything else you would recommend trying before RMA'ing?
  8. It seems like the general consensus is to sell the current board and processor and go for a 3300x. So I think we'll go with that. Thank you everyone for your help.
  9. He built the system a couple months so it's definitely ddr4.
  10. My friend is in need of a cpu upgrade and I was hoping for some recommendations. He's currently got some pnetium processor with a gigabyte aorus h370 motherboard. He's got a $200 budget. At first I was thinking something like the i5-9400f, but with the new A520 motherboards coming out I think we could probably squeeze in one of those with a 3300x. What would be the best upgrade? (He's got an rx 570 atm so I don't think there will be a bottleneck)
  11. Hi everyone I've had this problem for awhile and I was hoping I could get some help with solving it. Here's what's happening: So if I do happen to be gaming when it happens both of my screens go black for a second, my game closes, and then the windows I have open on my second display kind of disappear leaving the outlines of the windows. Then everything goes back to normal. Then after some random amount of time like 10 seconds-2 minutes, my PC will crash. Sometimes I get a BSOD that gives the message "Video_TDR_FAILURE (atikmpag.sys), other times my primary display goes black and my secondary display goes green, and other times it just restarts. I feel like this is some sort of graphics issue based on what is happening. My system specs are: AMD Ryzen 3600 G.Skill Ripjaws V 2*8gb @3200mhz MSI b450 Tomohawk MAX (Latest Bios and chipset drivers, problem was happening before updates) Powercolor Red Devil 5700 xt (Driver version 20.7.2, problem has happened on every driver version I've tried) Samsung 860 EVO Seagate Barracuda Corsair RM650x Windows 10 1909 I've looked through event viewer and found errors like: A problem has occurred with one or more user-mode drivers and the hosting process has been terminated. This may temporarily interrupt your ability to access the devices. The device HID-compliant headset (location (unknown)) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash. Windows will attempt to restart the device 5 more times. Please contact the device manufacturer for more information about this problem. A timeout was reached (45000 milliseconds) while waiting for the AMD External Events Utility service to connect. The AMD External Events Utility service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
  12. I remounted it and tightened the cage. No sound as of booting back up, so I guess this is solved. Thanks!
  13. Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help here. Just now I woke my computer from sleep and noticed a buzzing noise. I restarted and it was still there so I popped off the side panel and took the video below. The sound is definitely caused by hard drive vibrations because it stops or gets quiter when I put my finger on it. I'm wondering if this is a sign that something is wrong and how I would go about fixing it if it is. Also the hard drive in question is the Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 2tb which I've had vibration problems with in the past. *You may need to turn your volume up to hear the noise, my microphone isn't that good. 20200508_171808_1.mp4
  14. Not sure if this is the place where this post should be, but this is the best fit I found. Anyway, because I've been doing alot more stuff on my computer at home because of Covid-19 and I'm worried about eye strain, fatigue, and such. The room my setup is in doesn't really have great lighting and I've heard that setting up lights behind monitors helps with all the problems. I looked online and it seems that bias lights are the solution to the problem. I dont really want to spend a whole lot of money on this (probably no more than $15) because it's not that big of a deal at the moment. I did a little looking around and found this on Amazon: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.amazon.com/Antec-Lighting-HDTV-51-1-Inch-increase/dp/B007TG5EG8&ved=2ahUKEwixtOC9qKLpAhXjlnIEHQKXBtAQFjAMegQIARAC&usg=AOvVaw2a8o2zYLXIdlgjTThNQcnu I was wondering if this would work. If not I was wondering if you guys might have some recommendations for me. Thank you!
  15. Hi everyone, I've noticed that my keyboard, mouse, and monitor are starting to look pretty nasty. I've tried looking for advice online, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information from what I've seen. I decided to ask the experts on here, so I can get the best advice on cleaning my stuff specifically. I've attached some photos and as you can probably see both my keyboard and mouse have some grime in the most used spots which I can only guess is a buildup of sweat and skin crap. I've tried all sorts of methods of trying to clean this stuff off in the past, but the only method I've tried that works is physically scratching the stuff off which gets pretty messy real quick. Especially when the stuff then falls and gets stuck between the keys. My monitor has those little spots of dust and I'd like advice on getting rid of those too. Thank you!
  16. Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone had a solution to this: when I'm booting up windows (or waking from hibernation) the boot logo always appears on my secondary monitor, but after that the lock screen appears on my primary monitor. I believe it is a bios issue as I've gone through all my windows settings and when going into my bios the bios always appears on my secondary monitor. I have the Msi b450 Tomohawk MAX. This isn't that big of deal just slightly annoying. Thank you!
  17. Perhaps buzzing is the wrong word, but at around 8 seconds if you have your volume maxed out you should be able to hear the noise.
  18. Hi everyone, wondering if you guys could help me with this. So I was just using my PC, watching video when I noticed a kind of electrical buzzing. I took off my side panel and it didn't seem to be coming from the motherboard, graphics card, or fan. So I decided to restart my PC to see if that would get rid of the problem. It didn't, so I shut down, unplugged the power cord, switched off the PSU, and held the power button for five seconds to empty out the capacitors before I went in for a closer look. I took off the rear side panel and turned the PC back on. There was no buzzing. I decided to try messing with the fans and while I was doing that my arm on the top, rear corner of the case. I heard the sound and upon pushing down on that exact corner I could get the recording of the exact sound in the linked video. It is definitely coming from the basement and I'm pretty sure it's from the hdd. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RZu33q4rFULlUszvMGI38MzT2ngvxPw7/view?usp=drivesdk Not sure what's going on here. Now when I first installed the hdd I did get this exact buzzing, but it went away after unplugging and re plugging in the drive, so its 99% a hard drive issue, but since it's a kind of electrical sound I was also thinking psu hence why this is not in the storage section. I really do apologize for the long post I just wanted to throughly describe everything I did.
