  1. Hello everyone, Got a problem with my laptop where something is removing my audio device drivers for my in-built speakers on my laptop. This first happened yesterday, when I found out that my speaker volume was suddently permanently muted when my girlfriend was trying to use it to watch videos. So I did what any good user would do and restart the laptop. But to my surprise, it didn't fix my problem and so I had a look at my device manager to find that the whole section of audio device drivers are missing. The only trace of audio related devices on there was my intel smart sound technology BUS & OED in which the latter gave a code 52 error. The following is what I did to try and remedy the missing audio device problem: Ran windows troubleshoot: Reported that I had to restart to finish installing drivers, I restarted but didn't resolve the issue. Ran the troubleshoot again but this time said it couldn't solve the problem. Ran this command (CMD): DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth Ran this command (CMD): sfc /scannow Summary, found one corrupt file and repaired it successfully, but was not related to audio. Reinstalled intel smart sound technology driver: it reported installing drivers for 0 devices. Ran Realtek audio manager Failed to run, i.e. no window popped or ran any tasks. Reinstalled Realtek audio drivers Reported installing drivers for 0 devices At this point I checked the device manager again but to see the audio drivers not there still. So after doing all that, I just gave up and reset the laptop, via cloud, with my personal files. It Worked! Audio devices are showing up in device manager, but after using it for an hour and restarting my laptop to finish uninstalling bloatware the issue came back. Now we are at present time. Please, any help would be amazing. Let me know what extra information I should provide, I will respond as soon as possible.
  2. Hello, Just asking out of curiosity, I understand that most old games only use a single thread. Correct me if I'm completely wrong about this whole thing, but clock speed of the CPU is proportional to the performance of the game (that is if there's currently a CPU bottleneck). I also understand that individual cores can have different clocks from the rest of the cores. So is there a way of super clocking one core and assigning that core for the game? One method i thought of if single core overclocking is not possible, or viable, is using an unlocked 8 core cpu as an example, in order to achieve high clock speeds I could deactivate 6 cores and really crank up the clock speeds, higher than the speeds that I would get if all cores are active. Therefore I would get better performance for a single threaded game, right? How viable is this option?
  3. Thanks for your reply, Would you think replacing the thermal paste help the cooling? Oh and there wouldn't be a way to jury rig a fan in there, right?
  4. Hello, I've attached a photo for all of you to look at, I would like to know whether this aluminium sheet affects my laptop's cooling at all. As you might guess my laptop is passively cooled with a copper sheet. The aluminium sheet is covering vents on the other side and, what looks like, a thermal foam that touches both sheets - which I'm guessing tries to transfer the heat from copper to aluminium. But during my testing, I don't feel much heat at all on the top of the foam, metal looking side. Would it benefit the cooling of all components of the board if I were to remove the aluminium sheet? Because, and I could be completely wrong, but I think that the aluminium is blocking the heat from escaping... Plus the reason for this post is because I do have thermal issues, but I don't see my CPU overheating, it's around 70 degrees Celsius most of the time, but still throttles due to something else.
  5. Hello, I am looking at this laptop (https://store.hp.com/th-en/default/hp-notebook-15s-fq1002tu-8la69pa.html) to buy, but the thing is i need more memory. On the product page it clearly states SDRAM, but where i'm at on online stores i only see SODIMMs. I've been researching for quite a bit but only ended up confused. If anyone can tell me straight up with a clear explanation i would be extremely delighted. Thanks!
  6. Alright, cool. Looks like we have to go through the hard way Anyways thanks for your help @-rascal- and @Applefreak. I shall now order another stick of ram, whilst waiting im going to do more research... Wish you guys the best surviving the pandemic!
  7. Thanks for the reply, On the day it happened, after the hit, the pc crashed as in no display no lights nothing was on. So pressing the power button i get nothing, no beep codes, no lights, no fans turning on, no signs of life OTHER than the power light on my gpu. Originally thought the psu died on me (which could be entirely possible and destroyed everything else on its death), so i tested it and surely enough i couldn't see or feel the fans spinning in the psu, so i replaced it, the system still doesn't work. Now i'm at lost at which component is really dead.
  8. Haha, yea i won't next time, lesson learned... But i don't have another system with ddr4 so i'll just have to buy another one.
  9. Yea, it doesn't turn on without the RAM in it, I've tried. Well the thing is my motherboard does not have a post code to display on the motherboard itself to show any errors like that... So, chances are the motherboard might still be okay. So i'll consider buying a cheap RAM stick for testing for the time being. If there was a way to confirm either the motherboard or RAM works without buying replacement parts to test then that would be huge. Although I'm guessing there isn't a way sadly
  10. Thanks for the reply, And no i don't, my current setup uses ddr3 and so does all my systems in my house... Another thing to note is that my gpu power light does turn on though... And my powersupply is not the issue because i have replaced it after the problem and still doesnt work...
  11. Hi, So, i've made my computer die somehow but accidentally hitting it with my leg. Thing is i have cut my RAM stick pcb a bit (so that my massive case fan would fit) and it was enough for a slight knock on the case for it to become loose out of it's slot. Edit1: Also to note that my graphics card's power light DOES turn on AND my power supply is not faulty Question is, can my RAM stick or my motherboard DIE from this? Hardware: Gigabyte h110m 8gb crucial
