Are you by any chance using a 32bit OS?  That RAM amount is suspiciously close to the 32bit addressable memory limit and would be an easy explanation as to why you're not seeing all 6GB.

The 3 options you listed would likely result in the board/memory not working at all, and I'm 99% sure would not be the cause of the issue you're experiencing.

sorry. i left out i am using a 64 bit OS

  2. So a while ago I posted about a ram issue I was having, linux was only seeing 3.8GBs of ram out of my 6GBs i have in my system.

I honestly have no clue of whats causing the issue, but some ideas.

    1. it could be I have a some bent pins in my CPU socket preventing my bios from enabling the extra DIM slots. (yes my bios DOES detect the other ram sticks, just doesn't want to enable them)

    2. I could have flexed my Mobo and that could be a contender for the issue.

    3. I somehow scratched my Mobo's PCB

are any of these likely reasons for why my bios doesn't want to enable the dim slots?

and I did spend hours figuring out the ram layout, I went though my manual and when i did the 3 channel ram mode

    it just wouldn't post.

    i tried alternate lay outs.

the only layout i could get to work in the single channel mode witch with 2 sticks is very disappointing

my cpu is the i7 920

Does Manjaro show you the  6 GB RAM? You might want to try updating your WiFi drivers for sure but in case it doesn't work, I remember using a program called ndiswrapper in the past which can load a Windows XP wireless driver. I do not know if it still works with the newer Linux kernels but you can always get a good USB WiFi adapter with out of the box Linux support for cheap or another Wireless card.

Manjaro says the same thing. 3.8GBs. should I test if one of my sticks are faulty? if so, how?

Ussually with APUs and integrated graphics, some of your RAM might be used. In your case, it shouldn't be a problem since you are using a dedicated GPU. Are you certain that Windows shows 6GB of RAM while playing Minecraft? I am sorry that I am asking you to post outputs for commands but I am interested to know what kernel version you are using

    and the output the

command gives. Lastly make sure your system is up to date and all the drivers are installed. I think you can use Pop Shop to do so. This should not be happening under normal circumstances but if it is happening, it could be an issue of hardware support by the version of the kernel you are using. Are you using some piece of hardware that is relatively new? If that is the case, you would want the bleeding edge Linux kernel. Try booting from a Manjaro Live USB (they also offer Gnome if that is what you are used to). You do not have to install Manjaro but run the

command from a Manjaro Live USB and let us know what you find. If it works, the issue was most likely an older version of the Linux kernel. As much as I would like to recommend Ubuntu based distros like Mint and Pop OS, many times they do not work with newer hardware out of the box because they use an older Linux kernel. This does increase stability but it has an impact on hardware support. Most experienced Linux users can change the kernel to a newer version and deal with driver issues but that can be a lot of work. Switching distributions however is a lot easier for the beginner. All you have to do is copy over your home folder and install the packages you need. First we must identify if the issue indeed is the old Linux kernel before we can discuss your options.

    For the First command it's

    5.4.0-7629-generic

    for the free command

total        used        free      shared  buff/cache   available
    Mem:        4025528     2987920      125692      403188      911916      389164
    Swap:       4193784     2042896     2150888

    I might switch to manjaro

but when I went there my wifi was very slow.

even on pop os. but I think i just need to updated the drivers when I get there.

How much VRAM do you have? Your RAM could be 5.8 GB out of which 2GB could be VRAM. Feel free to post your output for the "lspci" command without the quotes.

so sorry for the late reply I thought i posted this on reddit.

    I have 2Gbs of vram

But why would my GPU take ram from my system. I'm not using a apu.

for some reason, when i play on minecraft on windows i get like 150 fps with small stutter. on pop os I get under 120.

sorry not related but wanted to add it if that relates to vram on something. yes to my knowledge my gpu is updated

is what i got from lspci, sorry I must of did it wrong that day

hold that thought, theses are Ethernet, i don't have a network controller in lspci just Ethernet

Tell us the chipset name of that wifi chip, so far it looks like it has a shitty driver and we need to know the exact name to see if there is another driver avaiable

  8. I'm convinced you never read the title.

    I'm running POP OS 20.04

    the gnome version is 3.36.1

I'm running off a WiFi USB chip (witch it's says its a 150 mbs chip) (the router is close I'm right above it, its a 50mb down so I should be fine, my pc is not covered so there's should be not issues but there is)

    my specs are as follows

    I7-920 2.6ghz

    MSI AMD R7 370 2GB

4GBs 1666mhz Ram (although I have 3 sticks with 2GB each so why doesn't my system show that?)

My motherboard is GB-ex56-ud5 vs 1

old tech I know but Right now I'm stuck with em till I can save up money and get a AMD ryzen build but here in Canada I'd be lucky to even upgrade my ram smh

I even reinstall pop os (witch is my main driver, likely not changing I'm more familiar with it)

    What distro are you using?

What is your wifi adapter? and is your OS detecting it correctly?

This will help you get info on your wifi adapter

    I'm using pop os. 20.04

I double checked the drivers and there nothing else I can install.

when I was on manjaro they made me do something with mirrors.

Do I still need to do that on pop os?

  10. Hello,

I am new to Linux (I know the basics, like how to use the terminal)

I've been reading and trying some stuff that doesn't work

my internet speed is super slow compared to windows 10.

on windows 10 I get at least 10mb of download but, on Linux, I'm getting 5.6kb why?

    I get a 50MB down and 20 MB up

I can't even watch videos above 360p whats going on?
