It should work if the laptop manufacturer put in an XMP profile in bios.

Yeah, but basically you built a sportscar only to run it on used frying oil by opting for HDD for the system.

CPU will be the last thing in the system to die from aging. You can limit the FPS to monitor refresh rate to reduce CPU power usage.

No it's not. A core simply wants to save power. Even if it does its transistors is not physically changed. What is bad is to put it under full load and then blast a lot of power to it. It will overheat. 1,1v is not much by Ryzen standards. Don't worry.

Use Ryzen Master. Other monitoring apps will trick the CPU into thinking there is load to a higher degree causing it to ramp up. Probably less of an issue now though but. Still RM most accurate.

Under a manual OC Ryzen cores will still park via C-states, but will not dynamically adjust frequency. The power gets gated off on a parked core, which reduces the power consumption considerable on idle.

lafrente got a reaction from Hairless Monkey Boy in Pc Myths: Does RGB actually help performance and such?
It's not a troll. Due to the spectrum difference in lightwaves, it affects the components around it. For example light blue will infuse into CPU and GPU with higher(shorter) frequency waves and allow it to transfer heat & stay cooler.

Think of it like an X ray machine.

lafrente reacted to Needfuldoer in Is it ok to use my GTX 1050 without the fans connected?
You might want to zip tie a case fan to it, so it has at least some airflow. Otherwise it's going to thermal throttle once the cooler gets heat soaked.

Ahhh ok, i get what youre saying. Like I mentioned, I dont really do any benchmarks, just figured that extra voltage could help during the benchmark itself.

These are minimum requirements which means it works with a GPU that has 2gb of VRAM.

They just listed the top tier equipment for their "recommended requirements". So it doesn't mean that it won't work properly with anything else. Go back a few months, this program still exists and there is no recommended hardware for it on the market. According to them of course.

lafrente reacted to LIGISTX in Is it wise to undervolt RAM?
    Not exactly…

RAM is extremely hard to overclock (or underclock), and it rarely presents instability in ways you can tell are RAM related. Typically what it will do it start to corrupt your files/OS, and start to throw very strange BSOD’s or cause strange behavior that you would typically think is actually a software bug, but really it’s your RAM flipping bits.

Put your RAM back to default, your only going to cause yourself problems.

Or, if your dead set on doing this just for the learning experience (there is nothing to be gained by doing it…. Except instability), read up on how to RAM overclock, and do the proper testing. It should take a solid week to fully test and tweak the RAM to gain stability, but it almost certainly will not run at lower voltages at XMP speeds.

Read this 100% through multiple times. If there are terms you don’t know, look them up, then read it again, and rinse and repeat until you fully understand everything on this page, and then do more research and maybe watch slime YouTube videos. THEN, go ahead and start messing with RAM voltages and do the proper testing. If you don’t… your 100% going to cause yourself massive issues - RAM OCing isn’t like CPU or GPU OCing.

    two totally different things.
And RAM generally doesn't generate /that/ much heat.   (A CPU can easily suck down 100+ Watts of power, while RAM uses 3-5 watts per DIMM, so...  not much of a concern.)

What do you mean? Even a 10 year old mid range gaming pc would easily handle all the office work easily. Turn off the RGB's, remove the stickers if unwanted, lower the fan speed and revert the OC and that's it.

Yeah, like I said I swapped the CPU shortly after the first post and after testing the 5600x for an hour no issues so I think that was the issue.  Started an RMA process with AMD.   I guess I was just worried it was going to be more complex than it actually was.  Thanks for the reassurance.
