  1. So my friend build a PC for doing Astro photography and he has a ryzen 9 5950X. When the CPU is at idle the processor sits around 45 - 70 C and fluctuates a good bit. I’m not used to this and don’t think this is normal operation. He has a NZXT AIO with a large rad and two 240mm fans. This setup should idle around 35 if my instincts are correct. What could be the issue here?
  2. My girlfriend lives in Germany, I am in the USA. We had this idea to set up a camera and dedicated computer in each of our rooms that would run some kind of service that would allow us to "peak" into the others room at anytime (or during certain times) throughout the day. It would virtually be like stopping in and saying hi as if we were living in the same town. I could even add some features like buttons that play certain noises or make the box light up on the other end. I have seen a few projects that do things like that. Are there any programs I can run on a Pi or something that I can use for free to achieve this? I guess I could just open a zoom call but it would require both to join at the same time. We want the cameras to be activated from the opposite end, basically a facetime call that just answers itself. Thanks, Justin
  3. Ha! not where I am from! People are really charging $200 on marketplace and craigslist for 15 year old laptops. I thought the core 2 duo came out before 2006. Maybe I am wrong.
  4. I don't understand. Doesn't the LGA 775 socket support those CPUs? I just want to find something useful to do with this machine. What is keeping me from upgrading the CPU?
  5. A collogue recently gifted me a Dell GX520 that was decommissioned from their office. I believe it has a later Intel Pentium 4 in a LGA 775 socket and probably 1 GB of RAM. I'd like to throw maybe $50 at it and make it a Minecraft bedrock server for maximum 4 players. I'm thinking a better CPU (core 2 quad), 4 GB (mobo max) of DDR2, and a free SSD from Micro Center. What is the most effective way to do this with this machine (I am expecting the "just do something completely different" responses). Thanks, Justin
  6. So my friend and I have been playing Minecraft egg wars for months now. My PC has never had any trouble running any kind of Minecraft, even RTX. But recently my CPU started hitting 90-100 C while gaming. This is very abnormal as before it was rare to see temps go above 70 even during high load. In the past few weeks nothing has physically changed on the rig. The only thing that I remember that could have led to this is I downloaded a sketchy program a couple days ago, but I have since reset my PC and ran a virus scan. The AIO pump is running and all fans are spinning. SO WHATS THE DEAL?! SYSTEM SPECS: i7-8700k Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti G.Skill 64 GB DDR4 RAM (3200) Asus Prime z390-p Motherboard (EZ tune oc settings applied) Samsung 970 EVO NVME Drive (500GB) Corsair 650w 80 Plus Gold PSU
  7. Standard orientation. But there's a reason for that. When I transport the system I put it in it's box and lay it down flat with the windowed side facing up. I do this because I thought (from an engineering standpoint) that this would be the safest way to orientate it as not to put stress where it matters. I also scoot the front seat all the way back so the box is firmly planted into the rear seat without crushing it. This acts like a seat belt. (poorly drawn paint diagram below) I moved the DP cable to a different port on the card and rebooted my system, also turned off my monitors response time setting (Low>Off). Not sure if that will do anything but I turned it on last night and I'm just curious. Is there any kind of diagnostics program I can run to check to see if anything is wrong with my card??
  8. As recommended I will stop transporting the system as much. I attend college in Norfolk, VA but go home to DC to work and see friends about every two weeks. Next time I HAVE to move it via car, I will remove the GPU and put it in an anti-static bag inside the box it shipped in. But I will refrain from transporting it. Its worth a try to get a new DP cable and if that doesn't work then I hope to god that the motherboard is broken because an new mobo I can afford, a new 2080 ti? Hell no. PS: Is there any difference in the DP ports on this card? There's 3 and one looks slightly different.
  9. So a couple months ago I purchased a used Gigabyte RTX 2080 TI from Newegg. It worked fine and despite some confusion with under performing, all seemed well. I recently upgraded my monitor from 1080@60hz to a 1440@144hz monitor that now uses display port. Everything worked fine for a couple weeks but just as I turned my PC on today I saw little white specs flying around my desktop background and the monitor kept going black every couple of seconds and then coming back on. I often bring this PC from home to school in a Styrofoam insulated box placed in the back seat of my Jeep JK (very soft suspension) so I would not expect of this to be an issue of physical stress. System Specs: i7-8700k Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti G.Skill 64 GB DDR4 RAM (3200) Asus Prime z390-p Motherboard (EZ tune oc settings applied) Samsung 970 EVO NVME Drive (500GB) Corsair 650w 80 Plus Gold PSU Here is a video of the artifact. It stopped after I rebooted my system. I noticed that when I change my screen resolution in display settings from lower to higher resolution the artifacting comes and goes. Very scared. IMG_5582.mp4
  10. So I recently had to update Modern Warfare and ever since the game has been crashing. The game will play fine for maybe 3-5 minutes and then crash by freezing whats on screen, but the background audio (wind blowing in games) keeps playing. I have no idea whats going on. Could this be a problem with my motherboards auto oc? Or is this not related to my hardware at all. Curious to see if anyone else has had this problem. My Rig: i7-8700k Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti G.Skill 64 GB DDR4 RAM (3200) Asus Prime z390-p Motherboard Samsung 970 EVO NVME Drive (500GB) Corsair 650w 80 Plus Gold PSU
  11. So I ran the benchmark that Jones recommended and here are the results. I think this is an appropriate score for this system but I am not an expert so maybe some of you can make more sense of these numbers. Also I tested this on my Samsung TV that always defaults windows to 1366x768, not sure if that matters. I also added more ram since my last post. On a side note, when I play games sometimes certain textures or objects will flash an odd color just for a second and then never come back. I don't know if I should be worried or not.
  12. So I turned Vsync off on RDR 2 and saw result that more closely matched other people’s bench marks (80 FPS) and that’s with MXAA on which is known to substantially lower frame-rate. But with Seus Minecraft I’m still only limited to 30 FPS. When I launch the game it’ll start out at like 80 but then drop to 30 within a minute. I have seen rigs online with lower specs get much better FPS (like 70). Also the shadows look a little jagged and the reflections are very noisy. Idk if that has anything to do with the problem.
