  1. I went forth and bought 3 120 mm Alpenföhn Wing Boost 3 ARGB High Speed to replace the radiator fans plus 3 140 mm Alpenföhn Wing Boost 3 ARGB to replace the case fans. I still need to tweak the fan curves but so far the noise is far less disturbing than before. I know that it's probably subjective perception but to me the new fans are less noisy than their predecessors. I reason for this could be the fact that they move more air and thus can be run at lower speeds to achive identical or even better cooling. After all the old case fans were 120 mm ones while the new ones are 140 mm. All in all I would say the fan swap has been a success.
  2. Guys I appreciate your input. But I didn't ask for an explanation how fans make noise, I asked for fan recommendations. Guess I'll have to buy the ones I mentioned in my initial post and try out myself whether or not they will improve the situation.
  3. Yeah but the goal is to find fans that don't need to run at full speed to cool the radiator. And with the fans I mentioned my hope is they are able to cool the radiator more efficiently than the ones that came with the AIO.
  4. I'm well aware that fans running at high RPM are bound to make noise. But there is definitely a difference between good and bad fans. And the ones that came with the AIO are very noisy. I've got different fans for the case and these make far less noise when running at the same speed as the AIO fans. But they are not really high pressure fans and thus are not my first choice when it comes to replacing the AIO fans.
  5. I've got a typical first world problem: I upgraded my Ryzen 3800X to a 5950X (see) and got PBO dialed in to the point I'm quite satisfied with the performance. The only problem is the fact that the CPU runs a bit hot and the AIO, a Deepcool Captain 240 Pro, struggles to keep the temps under control. Or more precisely under heavy load (gaming, photo editing, benchmarks) it does manage to keep the temps around 80 ° C but it needs to ramp up the fans to keep the temps under control and the fans that came with the AIO aren't exactly quiet. Now I'm looking for good high pressure 120mm RGB fans to replace the stock fans. Of course they should also run as quietly as possible. Since I control my RGB components with Asus Aura Corsair fans are out of the equation, I don't want to deal with another software/ controller. Can anybody recommend something that meets my criteria? What about the Alpenföhn Wing Boost 3 ARGB High Speed? They seem to tick all the check boxes. Any other suggestions? BTW I don't care about the price of the fans (within reason of course). Wouldn't it be silly to buy a 800 USD CPU but cheap out on fans?
  6. That's why I also addressed Linus. But the moderation staff certainly has a saying as far as these forums are concerned.
  7. It's no joke to those who suffered at the hands of Nazi Germany. And it's no joke to those who still propagate this ideology even today, 75 years after the "Third Reich" finally collapsed.
  8. According to the staff list on this website these are Senior Mods. That's why I included them.
  9. After having heard this term in many tech youtube videos including LTT and also read it on many forums I finally decided to bring the issue up in this thread. I live in Europe and here the term "Master Race" is commonly associated with Nazi Germany language (a so called Nazism). I don't know whether this is also the case in the U.S. and/ or Canada but let me quote Wikipedia as a reminder: Here is the link to the entire article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_race As described above the Nazis assumed that they were the "Master Race" and thus superior to any other race on the planet. And some races (most prominently Jews) were deemed so unworthy/ inferior by the Nazis that they should not be allowed to reproduce and therefore needed to be exterminated. So in short words the Nazis used the term "Master Race" as justification for the most gruesome crime against humanity that mankind has ever committed, the industrialized killing of Jews, homosexuals, mentally ill and other people they deemed unworthy/ inferior. I don't know about you but find it disgusting to use an utterly toxic term like "Master Race" in combination with a hobby like PC gaming that is supposed to be fun. What are we implying here? That console gamers are so inferior/ unworthy that they should be gassed in concentration camps? What about the approximately 40 000 Canadian and the hundreds of thousands of American service men and women who gave their lives in the fight against the terror regime the Nazis established throughout Europe and in parts of Africa? What would they think about us if they saw that we call ourselves the "PC Master Race"? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties Given the historic background I strongly believe the term "PC Master Race" is completely inappropriate and should therefore be banned from all future LTT videos and the LTT forums. I constitutes an insult to the millions of victims of the horrible Nazi Regime and their relatives/ descendants and trivializes one of the worst crimes ever committed. Or in other words: I'd rather be an unworthy console gamer than being part of any kind of "Master Race". @LinusTech @alpenwasser @Glenwing @GzeroD Thanks in advance for taking my request into consideration.
  10. I don't get it. Don't buy from scalpers, end of story. There is no human right to always be able to buy the latest tech. We are in the middle of a global pandemic, supply lines are interrupted, factories are operating below their max. capacity, raw materials are out of stock... There are currently way more important things to consider (like getting through the pandemic/ not dying) than whether or not we are able to buy a RTX 3080 or a Ryzen 5900X.
  11. If you don't game on the laptop the type of dedicated GPU is not that important as long as there is one (you mentioned CAD which should benefit from a dedicated GPU). In this case I'd allocate the 300 Euro towards a GPU upgrade for your desktop PC. Unless of course there is a certain use case in which you actually benefit from the faster 2060.
  12. Don't buy now, the latest tech is simply not available (Nvidia GPUs, AMD GPUs and AMD CPUs) and the generational improvements have been so big that buying products from the previous generation doesn't make sense in my opinion, especially when it comes to GPUs. Wait until the new AMD CPUs and current gen. GPUs from both manufacturers are in stock.
  13. I'd wait for the new GPUs as these are supposed to be released very soon. But for the CPU if you want to upgrade I'd do it as AMD has not published a release date for Ryzen 3 yet (they say in 2020 which could be 31st of December). Current AM4 mainboards will be compatible with Ryzen 3 so you can build a system based on the Ryzen 3600 CPU now with the option to upgrade later after the release of Ryzen 3 CPUs if they offer a big enough performance gain to justify another upgrade.
  14. I keep my Bios up to date but as long as everything works as expected you don't have to. Every Bios update comes with a risk of messing up something. If in doubt and there are no issues with the current version I would not update.
