  1. Hi, I've been asked by a neigbour to recommend an easy to use - as close to one click as possible - video cleaning package. They have a lot of VHS and analog video which they have recently digitised, but are not happy with the results as it is "noisy". I haven't seen it so cannot say what the problem is - for the VHS it could be anything! - however I do know that they are not very technical and will be looking for something simple: sort of load the vid, drag some sliders, save, type operation. Any suggestions? Premier/After effects will be too technical for them. Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi, I have just built a second new PC after a very long time of building none. It works but there is a slightly odd issue regarding the CPU fan and I am wondering if I have not used enough pressure. Its tight and I don't want to over tighten it but the CPU temp is hopping up and down when the PC is idling. The odd thing is that one I built with a Ryzen 3900 a month or so ago is fine. The problem rig has a Ryzen 3600 cooled by a Noctua NH-U12S inside a Corsair carbide 200R. The case isn't great for cooling with a closed front but does have side and top vents. I placed an additional downdraught fan in the top in front of the CPU and the CPU cooler fan blows to the back of the case where there is a 120 mm exhaust. The Motherboard is a Gigabyte Aurus Elite and the top fan is plugged into CPU opt. I first noticed the issue as the top fan keeps oscillating and when I look at the hardware monitor I see the CPU frequency is bouncing between 3590 and 3990 MHz with a corresponding bounce in the temperature between 36 and 48 degrees. and similar bounce in the CPU and CPU opt fan speeds. This is when the PC idle, doing nothing other than whatever Windows 10 is doing. Is the a symptom of not enough pressure, not enough thermal paste or something else? Thanks in advance . <edit> Added a pic of the CPU fan profile.
  3. Back with news. I can now clock to 3400 but no higher and am unable to do anything regarding the timings, even dropping one of them results in the system double power cycling on reboot - so it boots (fails?) and boots again. When I enter the bios after this all my settings have been ignored with the exception of the ram voltage. However I cannot get any luck without having XMP enabled which gives timing of 18,22,22,42,64 which allows me 3400 at 1.39volts. I suspect I could push the speed higher with more power but the gain wouldn't be great (correct me if I'm wrong here). If I disable xmp or touch any of the timings I get the boot cycling and resets as previously described. The Ryzen mem calc is suggesting I can get better timings but they just won't stick. Any suggestions as to what else to try?
  4. Hmmm.... Have now updated to bios version F11. Thought I'd try the XMP first, still not making much sense. System memory multiplayer is now 36.00, from the previous 26, there is a large general memory info window which states the ram is still running at 2667 and the dram voltage is around 1.37 (hops around a bit) from the previous 1.2. Except... The bios setting for the dram voltage is 'auto' and next to that is 1.2v. Now I thought that second column showed the current settings so either I am wrong or there is something v odd going on. I'll try manual tomorrow, however any ideas on the above? Base clock is 100 so a mem mult of 36 should give 3600? Also any idea why I now appear to have 2 dram voltages? Does xmp just ignore everything else in the bios including the dram volt?
  5. Thanks for the help. Sadly I have tried the cmos reset @Jurrunio and no joy. The bios could be the issue @_Syn_ its F4 so from early Sept 2019 and the current is F11. However there was a post on this forum about a bios update bricking an elite board, Not sure which one the poster tried though as the thread is from July 2019. It just makes me rather wary. The ram has Micron E die, I've no idea if that's good or bad, but wouldn't the PC fail to post rather than partially take the timings if it was dud?
  6. Hi, I am trying to get to a 3600 clock on what should be 3600 memory. I have used the Ryzen memory calculator, but the bios is not accepting all the timings I enter. In particular its resetting the system memory multiplier, CL,RCDRW, RCDRD and RP etc. Other timings such as the RDRDSCL, vcore dram voltage etc are, apparently, being accepted. Least they are not setting back to auto. There are two settings in the Gigabyte bios that the calculator is not showing me - RFC2 and RFC4 and the calculator wants me to double RFC, which given that most of the other timings are a few up or down, like the CL dropping from 18 to 16 seems odd. In any case on reboot RFC is back to the previous value. XMP reads a profile for the ram as 3600, but the board refuses to run it at this, sticking to 2667 with xmp enabled, with xmp disabled I am getting the above behaviour. Initially I tried following this post by Corsair - https://www.corsair.com/corsairmedia/sys_master/productcontent/Ryzen3000_MemoryOverclockingGuide.pdf as I have Corsair ram, but had the same issues as above, on boot some settings stay, all the others go back to the previous values and the rams stays at 2667. Any ideas where I am going wrong? <edit> CPU Ryzen 3900 (sorry) </edit>
  7. Hi, Putting together a new build not sure on the ram question, the motherboard is an X570 Gigabyte Aorus Elite. The case takes a 165mm max heigh cpu cooler and well this cooler is in my budget, as is the U12s. However having looked at the Noctua site it looks like both throttle the 3900x so prob better to go for a dual fan. Any suggestions - the Alpenföhn® ATLAS does not look available in the UK though the mounting is (?) - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/search?sSearch=Alpenföhn+ATLAS
  8. Hi, Title kinda says it - would this Noctua be OK for a 3900x https://www.amazon.co.uk/Noctua-NH-U9S-Premium-Cooler-NF-A9/dp/B00TBHYYFK/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=cpu+cooler&qid=1581249899&s=computers&sr=1-18? Its a single fan unit so not sure if I should go dual fan, not looking to overclock. Thanks in advance.
  9. Hi @ShrimpBrime and many thanks for the suggestion, newegg have these at £154 right now so could be worth a punt - Gigabyte's qvl only goes up to 4000 though so they are missing and it really needs an update!
  10. Many thanks for the info. I game and video edit (not professionally but I have a lot of travel footage from over the years) so was initially looking at 16gb with the idea of maybe going to 32gb by buying 2 more modules later. Budget for the first 16gb is around £100-£120. Rendering video is getting painful on my current PC. There is a patriot set on Amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Patriot-Memory-Viper-3600MHz-Performance/dp/B07N3W1T21/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=patriot+ram&qid=1581195922&sr=8-1 .But its not on the Gigabyte qvl so meh. Using the Crucial website brings up some 3200 - Ballistix Sport LT Red 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 UDIMM but this isn't on the qvl either and Crucial are saying this is compatible with the Aorus Elite so I'm wondering how up to date the qvl is. Equally there is stuff on the qvl that is not on the UK crucial site, like the 3600 - BLS8G4D36BESBK.8FE which only appears on the US Crucial site. It does not look like the UK is great place to be when buying ram for this board. Newegg isn't much help either as I cannot find any ram listed there on this qvl - I'm guessing the model numbers are different for some reason(?). Hope someone has some suggestions on this. Not sure why its proving a challenge, my current Asus rig was a breeze to build.
  11. Thanks for the tag tip @RadiatingLight, still learning my way around here. @ShrimpBrime or indeed anyone, If I go for say a 3600 kit will I need to dive into the bios to get it to 3600, will the motherboard auto-detect or does it just depend on the ram? If the latter does anyone have suggestions as to what to use?
  12. Sorry back. The list has a speed and a native column. As far as I can tell the native one is what the ram vendor says the ram will run at? Sooo.... Why do ram modules have a higher listed speed on them on Amazon etc? The 16GB 3600 ram looks like its only been validated in a 2 slot config, but this is 4 slot motherboard so does that mean it just won't work, or that Gigabyte just didn't bother? It's been years since I built a PC and things have changed.
  13. Many thanks, Couldn't find it anywhere on the AMD website and just searching for Matisse there just shows a lot of pics from keynotes - not at all helpful ?
  14. Hi, I am having real problems finding the memory QVL for an Aorus Elite (non-wifi) V1.0 motherboard. After fighting the Gigabyte global site without success I think I may of found it here https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/X570-AORUS-ELITE-rev-10/support#support-doc Except there are 3 lists and I have no idea which I need for a 3rd gen Ryzen cpu. I thought the architecture was Zen2, but that's not listed. Could someone point me at the right list? Thanks.
