  1. In reality I'm way to old to listen to this band but I discovered them about 2 weeks ago and it's the first time since I was 15 years old (I'm past 40) that I found music that to me is fresh and different and the "best band ever". Their genre jumps are wild and just this one song does not do this band justice even if this song in it self is multi-genre
  2. If you remember PS2 as 60 FPS in "almost all games" I do need to inform you that you strongly misremember most PS2 games that had some graphical fidelity.
  3. This comes down to so much personal opinion. But on that note: I personally think that the only consoles deserving S-tier on that list are SNES and PS2
  4. Not played since the 90ies. Gave away most of my cards back then (duh). But I have a Beta Bad Moon in pretty fair condition still. You wanna buy?
  5. This such a BS argument when talking about Teslas (or any other everyday car) I can't even believe you believe it yourself. While technically you are correct if the extra range was so important Tesla (and most other EV car manufacturers) should focus on doing like BMW i3 route and having smaller (thinner) tyres to reduce rolling resistance. Or smaller/lighter wheels that reduces the amount of power needed when accelerating (while having both the benefits (better traction) and down sides (more noise inside the car) of lower unsprung mass), both because the lower mass of the car (albeit negligible) but mostly because of a lower rotational mass. Or adding vortex generators to get separation of the air flow even further down on the car (or eliminating it completely). Flush (but more specifically motorized) door handles is not the important thing. They are there just (in both Tesla and other manufacturers) to be "cool".
  6. Bahahaha OP is n00b most commenters are n00bs, plz just: poke 649,0
  7. This brings me back down memory lane, the time period you talk about was way after I stopped building computers. But I do remember when the standard colour mother boards and PCI/AGP/ISA cards was green. It felt so cool when you got a ATi card with red PCB, a Hercules card with blue PCB or a SoundBlaster Audessy with a black PCB with gold traces. Back then we (absolute majority of people) gave zero fucks about aesthetics so we admired how cool all the non green stuff locked while assembling the computer. Then we put on the side panel (made of sheet metal) and never looked at the build again.
  8. I like the video but 4 of the SSD ”recommended” would be around 1600 USD (that is with VAT added) where I live so big no to mass storage, for personal use, that isn’t HDDs.
  9. I have a M1 Mac Mini and I opted to go for 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. In 90 % of what I do 8 GB would probably be enough also since the SSD is fast enough when swapping for most things. But of the rest 10 % it is nice to have 16 GB. I went with 512 GB because I need/want some storage space for the apps I use. But in my case most of the heavy lifting with large files (photos, music, videos etc) is handled by my NAS so I don't see the need for loads of storage on the device itself. In my case, since I run a Mac Mini (desktop) also getting an external thunderbolt/usb4 drive if I wanted extra storage wouldn't be a big deal. Performance wise the M-series of SoC (non pro/max/ultra)) will be about the same in single threaded performance (with quiet some variance depending on the exact task) sometimes a fair bit faster other times a bit slower, in general it will be a bit slower in multi core tasks that use up all cores simply because the 5800X has more full speed cores. On the other hand you are comparing a 15-30* W chip to a 100+ W chip (the M-series being the lower one). *30 W if you also run the iGPU at full at the same time as running all core load
  10. Some plastics will become brittle in months if they are close to the UV source.
  11. PW lenght trumps complexity. Having a full sentance of some lenght is hard to brute force and still easy to remember. Or even having a shorter sentance repeted 3 times. Even further, if you still worry about dictionary attacks and if you know multiple languages (like most people outside anglosphere do) make a mixed language sentence.
  12. No because they need batteries/charging. Wired till the day I die! EDIT:// But I do use wireless earphones/headphones because the value addition of not having a tangled mess in the pocket/getting caught in stuff when moving around. But for stuff living on the desk wired is the way.
  13. When I was in University I daily drove a AMD Athlon 2500+ (OCd so it showed up as a 3200+) with a ATi Radeon 9600 pro (later upgraded to a Nvidia GeForce 4400) don't remember the amount of RAM but probably something like 768 MB or something. Yeah this isn't much help to you and I'm old. (Equivalent) to masters degree in Mechanical Engineering (with major in sustainable energy production (but work with sustainable energy utilization specifically in buildings)). Nowadays at home I run a M1 Mac Mini (16 GB) and my work issued laptop is a HP EliteBook 845 G10 with a Ryzen 7 7840u CPU and 16 GB of RAM. The HP is nice but I would much have preferred a M1 (or newer) MacBook (even Air) from work.
  14. Overclocking nowadays is nothing really worth it compared to the hasstle in most cases. As an old timer let me tell you when certain CPUs where shipped as a 600 MHz part but you could (with some fiddling) OC it fairly easy to 900 MHz and in a lot of cases to around 1000 MHz (all practically usable no strange sub ambient set ups) That gave a meaningful performance boost compared to today when going from 4,7 to 4,8 or 4,9 GHz. According to me most stuff with OC ”capabilities” today is mostly to be able to get more money from consumers buying in to this (again for practical use and not sub ambient set ups).
  15. And even if it is a remote plex server you don't need 1 gbps for that very theoretical use case. 250-500 mbps will serve you more than well.
  16. I applaud this video and, as linus said himself, never thought LTT would actually say this. I personally have had 1 gbps speed available for years but I just couldn’t motivate this. I’ve settled with 250/250 mbps for only slightly less (the cost difference for me between 250/250 and 1000/1000 actually isn’t that large). To me symetrical connection is something I value highly even if I don’t seed torrents and even if the monthly statistics from my router tell me that I generally only upload about 10 % of the data that I download. But I do like having snappy upload of files when working from home and I do have a set up to be able to access some things in my home network remoteley. Also people complaining that this is only valid for people in cities, that feels like a very north american sentiment.
  17. The thing is that the metabolism mess up doesn’t mean you get health issues per se in the short run. It means you will never be able to keep they weight off by eating ”normal” portion sizes. Other side effects might be that you feel colder at temperatures other people don’t feel cold etc. You basically lowered your base metabolism by a lot. And eating 1000-1500 kcal a day isn’t sustainable for a life time (for most people). What I said in my previous post won’t give dramatic effects over 6 months. But it will give an (gradual) effect over 5 years (speed of change of course depending on where you start). But since it relies on a ”normal” portion size it will also be much easier to stick to.
  18. By only eating 1000-1500 kcal a day you forced your body into starvation mode and it will do everything in power to lower your metabolism including eating your muscles before it eats your fat. Also this is not sustainable and you it most probably will just lead to yoyo dieting for you (and hopefully you have not made a permanent mess of your metabolism allready). Before I do a long rant (that will make other people in this thread angry) lets make one thing clear if weight loss is the goal it follows the 80/20 rule. 80 % of weight loss is diet and 20 % is exercise. Firstly this is a marathon and not a sprint. The advice I will give will be over a long time and will for most people not lead to dramatic changes. In general a semi sedentary (you do some physical activity every day like some short walks, but not directly exercise) means (for a non messed up metabolism because of earlier crash dieting) that most people need around 30 kcal/kg body weight (a bit less for women). So in your calorie intake aim for this according to your goal weight (again unless you messed up your metabolism because of CD). Let's say your goal weight is 80 kg that gives 80x30=2 400 kcal a day in daily energy intake (I'll run with this number from now on for simplicity). Unlike other people both in this thread or on the internet in general will say I'm going to say the following: It doesn't matter how you get these calories (from a weight loss perspective) it only matters that you do not consume more than this. If you count calories and overshoot let's say 200 kcal one day then make sure that you undershoot with the same amount the next day. But a general advice is to eat less sugary things (and this includes fruit) because you reach your kcal intake goal much faster with food with a lot of sugar and this means you will go and feel hungry a lot more, which takes a mental toll on most people. Also a 100 % refined sugar diet might fill your kcal goal but will be lacking in other nutrients that are good for you. So while I in one sentence say sugar is OK I also recommend to not eat to much of it just so you feel fuller for longer and to get other nutrients (that are good for your general well being). Eat varied food with lots of veggies a fair amount of protein, some fat but also some amount of carbs in the form of starches and sugars. When it comes to exercise, as I said before, it has less impact on weight loss (even if it does have some impact). But even with that limited impact I still would highly recommend exercise since it has other positive effects for your general health and well being (well not early on for most because people initially feel really run down when they start). In the case of exercise for most people that start their journey they look at it in the wrong way, that they think they need to hit the gym x amounts of time a week or run x amount of kilometers a week. Every physical activity that increases your heart rate is exercise. Just start taking many short walks/bike rides everyday is exercise. Complement this with a 45-60 minute longer walk (at a brisk pace) every other day and it will do good for you. Of course if you start running 5-10 km 2-3 times a week is even better (but might be hard until you shed some weight). Hitting the gym lifting weights will help you but do less for weight loss compared to sticking to cardiovascular exercise. So that's my take and I suspect some people will argue against what I've said.
  19. And good riddance. Finally the computer world might move to files ordered by metadata instead of by an analogue to a physical file cabinet. To OP, if you use windows se if they can reverse the scroll direction of the mouse wheel without installing any software or access to internet, I doubt most people on this forum can to that
  20. Written is better and faster in almost all aspects when it comes to instructions. And in the age of internet the ultimate instruction is written with short video clips (or gifs) for ”tricky” parts. The problem is to monetize written instructions. If LMG would be more serious about being a serious tech outlet they would have a LTT part in written format for guides and reviews in parallel to the FP/YT channels. Don’t get me wrong, I like a lot of LTT videos. But to me it’s mainly entertainment either by the enthusiasm showen in some, Linus dropping expensive stuff in others or the pure jank Alex comes up with (who can forget when the casted their own CPU cooler from aluminium).
  21. Sounds like you are/where really bad at your job and inflexible at learning new things when things don’t work the way you are used to.
  22. I do not agree with you on that. Peak internet was from around 1997 to 26 september 2006. From then on it has been on a steady decline. (I got my first home internet connection in about 95-96). Unlike what you might think, with the end date I gave, what really started the downturn of internet is what is/was called web 2.0, that phrase was introduced in 2004 but didn't really start to get big traction until a few years later.
  23. I always figured Linus using SG was a sponsorship thing. Personally I avoid SG as the plague because back in the days (25 years ago) if a HDD failed it was always a SG drive. They probably have fixed their quality by now but their reputation of poor reliability lives on in me and thus I would never ever use a SG drive.
