  1. Small update: I've managed to find 1 new laptop and 1 refurbished one with a 4500u, and a refurbished Swift 3 with an R7 4700u. Everything else is either out of budget, out of stock or has Windows 10 S instead of full-fat Windows 10 Home. Medion Akoya R5-4500U (new) HP 15-EH0511SA R5-4500U (refurbished) Acer Swift 3 R7-4700U (refurbished) Would it be worth taking the chance on a refurbished Swift 3?
  2. Thanks, I'll see if I can find anything with a 4500u somewhere. Just like everything else it's kinda hard finding stock rn. Out of those 2 Asus i5's, which one would you pick? They both seem to be on par with each other from what I can see
  3. I need a bit of help picking a laptop I can use for light multi-tasking while I'm at work/college (mainly doing college work, Discord and several Chrome tabs) and for running VirtualDJ when I'm at home. I'm looking for something under £500, preferably around the £450 mark with at least 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. So far I've looked at the following but I can't make my mind up which would be the best option: Acer Aspire 3 A315-22 Ryzen 5-3500U Asus VivoBook 14 Ryzen 5-3500U Asus VivoBook 14 i5-1035G1 Asus X415JA i5-1035G1 (currently on sale for £479) Any thoughts, advice or other options? Thanks
  4. Sorry for bumping the thread. I am having the same issue, only with LAN Manager instead of Mystic Light. Dragon Center shows LAN Manager is installed under System Info, yet it does not appear in the "Home" tab. When I open Dragon Center, the init screen sticks on "LAN Manager: Load file successfully" for about a minute before eventually saying "LAN Manager: Init successfully" but LAN Manager will not appear. This only occurred after reinstalling Dragon Center for an unrelated issue.
  5. That's not what we're asking. We want to be able to resume downloads after reboot/shutdown, not after sleep. We know that hibernate stores your RAM on disk so you can resume even after power loss, but hibernate isn't an option when you need to reboot. (Yes, sometimes it's not possible to wait until tomorrow to reboot.) EDIT: Also, if you have an SSD, using hibernate a lot uses a large amount of write cycles causing unnecessary wear to the drive. This is made even worse if you have lots of RAM.
  6. I can confirm that whitelisting Google fonts in Pi-Hole fixed the issue. I have now marked the thread as solved. Thanks again for your help!
  7. Thanks! I'll give that a shot. I'll flush my DNS caches and recreate the issue before I whitelist them so I can tell if it's worked. I'll let you know the results. EDIT, again: It'll have to wait a couple hours. I stupidly fell for the Epic GTAV offer and I'm waiting for it to download. Knowing Epic, I don't want to reset my connection and lose my download.
  8. Given that it seems to be possible to sometimes do it by force closing EGL, or in some cases by exiting properly, surely it must be possible for them to implement the feature. If literally everyone else can do it, why can't Epic?
  9. Never mind, I found the cause. Pi-Hole is blocking Google fonts for some reason. Do you know the URL for Google Fonts so I can whitelist it? EDIT: Sorry guys, but I just don't trust ad providers. I also use it for more that just blocking ads.
  10. To add to the problem I have just discovered a similar issue at the bottom of each post: I'm pretty sure the font is meant to match everything else on here, isn't it? And that underscore looks a bit out of place. In my amateur opinion it looks like it might be either a minor CSS or HTML bug or an issue with Chrome. EDIT: After adjusting my eyesight, I noticed that the search bar does it too.
  11. Browser, version and OS: Chrome Desktop 81, Windows 10 Home 1909 x64 Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened? Just browsing the forum as usual. What happened? Labels appeared in the User menu next to the button titles (person, forum, chat, etc.) in the HTML default Times New Roman font. Please see the attached screenshot. See my reply for more details. What did you expect to happen? No labels, only button titles Link to a page where it happened, if applicable: Entire forum Screenshots of the issue, if applicable: Any other relevant details: None I can think of... I'll let you know if there are. If it's a cloudflare error, what was the ray ID from the bottom of the error page?
  12. Welp, I was just about to reboot my PC when I found this thread. (Yes, GTAV too.) Glad I didn't. If they're going to sell games as big as 90GB they should at least let users pause their downloads and resume them later. They do realise that Windows loves to restart at the most awkward times, don't they? This is the first time I've used the Epic Games launcher, and it's fair to say that the experience I've had with it in the last 24 hours is disappointing to say the least. At least I can't complain too much about the throttling, my internet is so bad that Epic can still fully saturate my bandwidth. 14Mb/s down, 2Mb/s up maximum TalkTalk are useless.
  13. @Windows7ge Thanks. I'll try get XFCE installed on my test VM. @GDRRiley I'll need to add a SATA expansion card if I want to boot from an SSD since my mobo only has 4 SATA ports that might all be used by my HDD's depending on how I decide to configure them. Thanks for the advice though. @Windows7ge and @GDRRiley I like the idea of a hypervisor but doesn't using VMs add resource overhead? It may be an i5 but it's old and slow so I don't want too much overhead. Also, It might add a little unnecessary complexity to the whole thing. (I'm kind of new to servers so I'd like to keep things simple and on one OS.) @Dutch_Master Thanks. I'll consider using Debian instead of Ubuntu if I don't go down the hypervisor route. I'm aware that changing hardware can cause issues on a lot of systems so I'll probably still reinstall anyway when I upgrade the hardware.
  14. Hi guys, I want to convert my old PC into a home server but I need some help picking an OS. I've heard that Ubuntu Server, Debian, Fedora, CentOS and OpenSUSE are some of the best but I need help picking the right one for my needs as I'm still fairly new to the Linux scene. The server will function as: SAMBA file server Plex Media Server Pi-Hole - Sorry Linus. It's the advertisers' fault, not the content creators'. I'll buy a LTT hoodie and some t-shirts. (Please make women's LTT underwear too!) I may also add other services in the future if I need them. The OS needs to be stable and, most importantly, secure. It also needs to be lightweight because it'll initially be running on fairly old hardware (see below). I would like to use a Linux-based OS so I don't need to run Pi-Hole or Plex in a VM/jail. (I know FreeNAS has a Plex plugin but it can only run Pi-Hole in a Linux VM, adding overhead.) It would also be nice to have long term support or a rolling release so I don't need to fully upgrade the OS every few months. I've tried Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS on a VBox VM purely just to play around with it and test the functionality of the services I'll be running. I don't mind using CLI/SSH for most things but I would prefer a desktop environment or a web GUI for tasks that either can't be done over SSH or would be easier in a GUI, (e.g. network config, managing storage, etc.) so that kind of rules out the LTS version of Ubuntu Server unless anyone knows how to install XFCE on it. Initial hardware (subject to future upgrades): CPU: i5-650 3.2GHz (3.4GHz boost) Clarkdale Mobo: MSI 2A9C (MS-7613 from HP Pavilion 6000 series) RAM: 16GB DDR3 Storage: TBC - I'm thinking boot from USB and use IronWolves in RAIDZ for storage PSU: CiT 500W 80+ (I know it's cheap crap but it'll do for now till I get better hardware) Thanks in advance for any advice. Leah
  15. I just found Linus' video "4K Video Editing PC on a BUDGET" from October. Looks like I definitely went overboard with my choice of parts for brief 2. I don't mean to sound like a little fan-girl or a copycat but I've decided to follow his advice and put the Ryzen 5 3600 in the video editing rig too with a GTX 1650. Also, it turns out that I posted the wrong mobo for brief 1. The B450M-A Pro Max is the £58 option I was looking at, not the B450M Pro-VDH I mentioned above, that one would knock the build over-budget. On that note, I also kind of followed Linus' advice for the video rig and picked the B450-A Pro Max (the B450-A Pro Linus used ins't available in the UK for some reason) since it's just the ATX version of the one I used for brief 1 with more SATA ports for extra drives and more DIMM slots to make it upgradeable.
