A t2i is a good amount newer and better camera, so Id get that if you can. Both should use dummy batteries fine, and the dummy batteries are pretty cheap on places like amazon.

The label of your CXm, is it grey like:

    Or green:

    ?

LewisField reacted to DailyProcrastinator in Kinda old PSU
Perfect, the newer gen (grey label) was significantly better than the previous gen (green label) and 3 years is not that old. Your PSU has 5 years of warranty as well. So for now you are okay!

That said I know you have an RX 580 8GB but what CPU do you have?

For more info on PSU's and their overall quality refer to:
Your PSU is a solid Tier B.

No worries, regardless that system will never draw more than 250W under full load which means low strain on your 650W PSU. So you have nothing to worry about, keep using that PSU!

For reference I have a R7 1700 with an RX 580 8GB running off a 450W PSU, the estimated draw of the system is 350W, I have never seen it pull more than 280W from the wall.

From a quad core this is to be expected. 3rd gen Ryzen CPU's pretty well come with the full unlocked potential right out of the box. And you really don't want to crank the CPU voltage. If anything at stock the voltage is probably set a bit high.

Anyways, 3rd gen Ryzen doesn't really OC well to begin with, nor does it yield much performance gained, fast RAM and adjusting PBO settings in Ryzen Master is best if you want to ‘OC’. 3rd gen Ryzen CPU's seem to show faster degradation symptoms if higher voltages are applied (something I recently learned). For long term 'safe' OC'ing voltages below 1.375V were considered to be fine. However, this rule of thumb is adopted from overclocking Intel CPU's, and previous generations of AMD CPU's. So, for long term use I would NOT recommend OC'ing via the standard Manual method in Bios. Keeping the voltage low (1.27500V or lower) and adjusting PBO settings is the safest way to squeeze out some extra performance. But even then, only expect 100-300MHz at most.

Good read on voltage issues with the new Ryzen CPU’s: (And why I recommend low voltage)

I would focus on the GPU, and what do you have going for memory? 3rd gen Ryzen loves fast dual channel memory.

Have you manually clocked your memory? Or is this with enabling DOCP (XMP) mode?

LewisField reacted to DailyProcrastinator in Kinda old PSU
Clocking your memory past 2666MHz is considered overclocking so keep in mind that mileage may vary, a 3600MHz kit won't necessarily be able to reach that speed. Since XMP mode does not work past 2733MHz I recommend manually clocking your RAM.

To do so go into advanced settings in your Bios, set your RAM to 2733MHz first, then manual adjust DRAM voltage to 1.3500V, save and post into windows.

Run a quick stress test like Cinebench R15 to verify stability.

From there go back into Bios and increase memory speed by a single increment (2800, 2900, 3000 etc.), each time post into windows and run your stress test.

If at any point you get a blue screen crash with a windows stopcode that gives out a memory error go back into bios and increase your DRAM voltage by and increment of 0.0250V (up until a max of 1.4500V) and test stability again, hopefully you can reach your memory's rated speed of 3000MHz but you might not be able to.

Although it is possible to OC your memory further as well. I set my Corsair Vengeance 32GB 3200MHz CL16 to 3466MHz at 1.3750V and tightened up my timings.

Yeah that may be as high as you can go, memory OC'ing relies on multiple variables, it's much like overclocking a CPU some people can achieve higher speeds others cannot, at least you got a bit higher clock-speed. Did you try upping DRAM voltage?

Okay yeah so 2800mhz @ 1.35V is the most stable you can get.

Yeah good boost! I would maybe OC your GPU a bit, otherwise without going super in depth there is not much more to do.

I am a huge noob when it comes to OC'ing GPU's, last time I did anything was with my GTX 1080 over a year ago, haven't touched it since. So I am not the best resource on this. Also, I have never even OC'd or even spent the time looking up how to OC my RX 580 lol. I just know a lot on CPU and memory OC'ing haha.

Probably best to watch a few YouTube videos and if you still have questions just start a new topic specifically on OC'ing your RX 580. Sorry I could not be more help on this! I don't want top recommend anything I am not educated on!
