  1. @Duckson McQuacksomeone on reddit states "Very important to note that recent firmwares (v43 and v50, which I think are the latest) on the Gigabyte Titan Ridge card have ended compatibility in non-Gigabyte boards. AFAIK all shipping cards should have one of these two firmwares, so be warned. Unless you have access to specialist equipment it isn't possible to flash an old firmware back onto the board, even if you can find the file (Gigabyte have removed old firmwares)."
  2. will the controller have any effect on motherboard support or should i just get the newer one (titan ridge)
  3. My motherboard has the thunderbolt header (ASRock x570m pro4), and I am looking to get a thunderbolt pcie card for it. The manual for my motherboard naturally says I should buy the official ASRock thunderbolt card which is normally only $60 but seems to be out of stock nearly everywhere and on ebay it is roughly twice that price right now. I am wondering if I will have any trouble going with another brand for the card? For example https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-Alpine-Thunderbolt-Components-GC-Alpine/dp/B0722SV69N I would need two display inputs and two thunderbolt outputs would be nice but not necessary
  4. As I have been working from home I have both my normal desktop (AMD & Linux) and my MacBook Pro (for work) that I switch between often. I have two monitors that I have each one connected to individually but it has been a bit of a pain to move my keyboard, mouse, and speakers between the two whenever I want to use them. I learned about KVM switches and realize that may be a potential solution but the other thing I thought would be interesting is if I bought a single thunderbolt 3 dock and swapped the single cable from my desktop and my laptop. I'm not sure if thunderbolt 3 plays nice with AMD cards but since its on Linux I think it may. I'll have to get a thunderbolt card too since my motherboard doesn't have it built in. I have PCIE4 motherboard but I'm not sure if that matters for this.
  5. Hey all. I'm working through my build and I realized I need bluetooth so I thought I would get a wifi / bluetooth combo m.2. From what I have seen there aren't any potential compatibility issues with my ASRock X570M PRO4 that I could find. Just wanted to confirm that is correct. Then other than that are there any suggestions for the m.2 / antennas that I should be getting? i can find one easily enough on amazon but i have no idea whats what in this market
  6. i wanted to at least get a 650W PSU and only say 550 for the Bitfenix ones. Its still on the A tier (which is better than I previously had) so i feel better about it
  7. do you have links to a specific drive in mind? it looks like thats a controller and not the actual end product so I'm not sure which you were thinking of

  9. thanks for clarifying! I'm new to this forum is there a list of recommendations? i'll have to take a look for that
  10. is the power supply in my original post not good? also it seemed like the 970 evo has better speeds than 660p (the one in my original post)
  11. thanks for all the advice y'all! i'm not really worried about drive space above 500gb, and I can always add more with the other m.2 slot. I think I will take advantage of the graphics card upgrade though
  12. not sure about that ram, the config i had used low profile ram to make sure it fits with the cooler. wasn't able to find heights for this ram. Video card is only like $20 more so thats a nice upgrade for a low cost. Why go down to 550w for PSU? Isn't it ideal to have max wattage be double what my computer will use under load?
  13. haha - it's actually gotten a lot easier as of late. who knows i might go all in on linux once i escape macOS
  14. Just finalizing my part list for a non-gaming rig. I intent to use it for software development utilizing emulators and some VM's for my work. I may want to use this as a hackintosh I chose low profile ram to make sure I get an easy fit with the Noctua cooler. I went with the AMD graphics card for support with a hackintosh computer if the time comes. Let me know what you think!
