Ummm....I created a VPN on my home server so I can dial into it from work and visit this website undetected...seriously I set it up for giggles.  It's free to do if you use OpenVPN.

Honestly I'd not pay for postage for old parts even if they were free...too many old parts as is collecting dust in my closet.

G14 is the swiss army knife of laptop computing...if I had $1500 to burn...I'd be at bestbuy right now

Stu_Bear got a reaction from Ben17 in Low Power Media Center Suitable For Solar
So, you have 2x 150Ah 12 volt batteries wired parallel?  There's a little efficiency to be had by wiring them in series for 24v...24v DC to 120v AC inverters are slightly more efficient me thinks...and charging 24v DC is more efficient if you have solar panels that operate at or above 27 volts...just food for thought.  Downside you'd have to buy a new inverter and maybe a new charge controller depending how flexible the one you already own is.

Squeezing every drop of efficiency out of a solar generator is not unlike squeezing all the performance out of a gaming pc

Good luck!  This reminds me of my camping days in the Ozark mountains...huddled around a small 19" tv watching scary movies in the middle of the woods...fun times.

Looks like I'll be going XBox unless it's way more expensive. I'll pick PS5 up in 2-3 years when it's cheap and has enough exclusives built up.

If your mobo supports 7700k...and you can find one used for no more than $150...that's not a bad option...else I'd make the jump to AMD.

Agreed.  I bought 8700k 3 months ago for the threads...that said i already owned an intel mobo...else I'd have gone AMD and never looked back.

I have a 2070 Super with an 8700K and I see no bottlenecks. That being said I know you said Intel preferred but cost vs performance is heavily leaning toward AMD right now.

efficiencies or lack there of...that and not many games need 8gb over 6gb.  That and vram speeds differ...6gb pushing 14gbs > 8gb pushing 8gbs..

Time to do a reinstall.  Here I could jump on my soapbox and preach how Win10 is a disaster waiting to happen...and why linux is superior in the desktop/laptop realm...but I refuse to get on my soapbox and say that.  Might even suggest to just have Win10 installed on a 2nd physical drive for when you are forced to use it because of compatibility issues, but again I'd sound preachy and refuse to do that.

You can use any old Windows 7 or 8 key to activate a Windows 10 install. Could even be an OEM key you find on the sticker of an old PC/Laptop...

Really isn't worth buying Windows these days!
