  1. The RAM was the issue. I was not trying every possible combination and two of the four sticks were fried. If either of those two are plugged in, the computer does not boot (and does not give beep codes). I'll troubleshoot the motherboard and CPU to double check and see if they're also messed up.
  2. Swapped out to a new psu. Still nothing. What the hell am I missing here?
  3. Installed a case mic. No beeping whatsoever. I don't know if that is good news or bad...
  4. Yes, the pc has been working since 2016. I've reset cmos. Moved around the ram. And then switched out the cpu / mobo to the set I listed above (notice the jump from i5 6600k to Ryzen 5 3600). That last change stopped the power cycling, but I'm unable to get video to come through. I'm going to get a case speaker (should arrive within a few days) and try hooking that up and see what Beep codes I get.
  5. I'm helping fix a friend's machine I sold him a while back. It was getting a power cycle where the fans would spin for around 30 seconds and then reset. No post screen. Initial Specs: I tore down everything until we were looking at just the CPU, motherboard and power supply. That was still not working. I unfortunately do not have a free power supply on hand, but I do have an extra motherboard - CPU combo so I tried that. Specifically a Ryzen 5 3600 and a Gigabyte B450M DS3H WIFI (Rev 1.3) I tried building everything else off of that rig and went to boot it up. Now I'm getting the fans to keep spinning but not able to get any video output (I'm plugged into the GPU of course since the 3600 doesn't have onboard graphics). Is there something obvious I missed here? Would a PSU problem cause these types of errors? I would've thought it simply wouldn't startup at all. I'm a bit fatigued at this point and just want to know what the best next steps are. Thank you to whoever tries to provide help. (Another note: If it's relevant, I opted to NOT use the all in one cooler just to keep things simple on the new build. I'm just using the stock Ryzen fan for now).
  6. Yeah, both of them. I got a steal on the Mushkin and thought I'd throw them in to see if could run Chrome while playing. Definitely helped, but like Juular said, cant really be OC'd as it stands right now.
  7. Hey Everyone, This is my first post so I apologize if I'm missing something crucial but I'm going to do my best here. I have a rig I made back in late 2016 that I'm looking for advice on what to upgrade. Here's the partlist as it exists today: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor $209.99 @ Amazon CPU Cooler Corsair H100i v2 70.69 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard $325.99 @ Amazon Memory Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Memory Mushkin Essentials 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage Intel 545s 256 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $67.99 @ Newegg Storage Western Digital Blue 1 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive $46.66 @ Monoprice Video Card MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB Video Card Case Phanteks Enthoo Pro M TG ATX Mid Tower Case $88.99 @ Amazon Power Supply EVGA SuperNOVA G1+ 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply $108.69 @ SuperBiiz Monitor Acer XF270HU 27.0" 2560x1440 144 Hz Monitor $491.00 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $1339.31 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-12-12 03:13 EST-0500 (The monitor isnt quite right on PCPartPicker. Here's a link to what I believe to be the exact model.) I use my rig mostly for gaming right now and while it can handle most things really well, I've found it's starting to stutter on particularly crowded Total War games. This in addition to me wanting to just keep upgrading means that I'd like to find an avenue of improvement (ideally without completely starting from scratch) ?. I'm not very familiar with overclocking so I'm looking into that option as well to keep the jitters at bay. That being said, I'd still like to know what the obvious route for a "next upgrade" would be, even after I reach the point overclocking no longer satiates my thirst for computational excellency!!! I was looking into either upgrading the CPU (probably Ryzen, knowing full well this would take at least a new motherboard), or perhaps adding another GPU via SLI. The issue with the GPU is that I would think it would make the CPU a bottleneck. But what do you think? Is there a clear deficiency I can upgrade? Or am i better off just saving my money and creating a whole new machine a while down the road? Thanks for any feedback!
