CPU doesn't matter too much anymore. the 6300 is plenty for even the highest end GPU. (there will be bottleneck, but not enough to worry about)

An nvidia GTX 770 (or R9 280X) is a great pair for a 6300. at 1440P, you want the best GPU you can get. (I'd go for a 780 or 290 at that res, assuming I had the money)

    That's my 2 cents

Again, most games use no more than 1 core.
AMD has 8 cores in 4 modules that share stuff, so it's not actually 8 individual cores in 8 modules. It's a very good CPU and I can recommend it, but for most games the 4670k is a solid choice. Upto you really.
Never take Tomshardware as a reference, it's a bunch of fanboys from the forum members to the owner. Complete BS that page.

As I said, 8350 and 4670k are both very nice CPUs. In very CPU intensive games usually the Intel will win as it's stronger individual cores. BUt personally if I was to buy a new system soon I'd go with the FX 8350 most likely so I can't tell you not to buy it ^^

Buy what floats your boat. ^^

4670k or 8350 will both be excellent choices.

    780 > 280x/7970 > 770. So if you don't want to spend the money for a 780 / 290/x get a 280x.

There is no such thing as future proof. It's BS. Nothing is. Especially not PC stuff.

But if you play BF4 you'll profit a lot from AMD Mantle, so if that's your main focus, go with an AMD card

The 780 is the faster GPU, the 7970 = 280x [it's the identical card, AMD rebranded the 7970 to a 280x as Nvidia did with the 680 to the 770 ^^]

EPSFBPMOSF reacted to TechFan@ic in AMD CPUs Will Gain Performance Boosts Due To Next-Gen Consoles According To John Carmack.
The same argument can be made for an AMD 6 core processor, an FX 6300 will be more than twice as powerful as an 8 core jaguar CPU, and an FX 6300 costs less than half what an i5 costs.
Why would you as a gamer in this case buy an i5 ? this is the argument that I'm presenting, for each price point you will get more cores with the AMD processors, and now that games can actually utilize the extra cores these AMD processors become an outstanding choice for PC gamers, in terms of performance and price.

EPSFBPMOSF reacted to TechFan@ic in AMD CPUs Will Gain Performance Boosts Due To Next-Gen Consoles According To John Carmack.
As we all know by now both next-gen console platforms the PS4 & XBOXONE utilize AMD hardware technologies in the form of a CPU & a GPU, this has lead to a lot of interesting discussion regarding games being optimized for the AMD hardware on the consoles having an effect on PC games & gaming in general.

For almost the last decade the majority of games have been very single thread & operation per clock reliant, an area where intel has excelled and maintained a lead over AMD.
Where traditionally AMD has been always more focused on CPU frequency & parallelism, they were the first to the 1Ghz mark, the first to launch a dual core x86 processor, the first to launch a native quad core (4 cores on a single die) x86 processor & the first to launch an eight core desktop processor.
This is why for the past six years games have favored intel processors, well now things might change a bit.

The PS4 & XBOXONE both sport an eight core AMD Jaguar processor and an AMD graphics processor based on the GCN (Graphics Core Next) architecture.
This essentially means that the games & game engines developed for this hardware will be very different from what we've had for the better part of the last decade.
In the sense that these new technologies will be developed and optimized to operate in parallel (more cores) and use the AMD optimized instruction sets and microcode.

I have always believed that this will most definitely have a significant effect on PC games, allowing next gen titles to take advantage of a greater number of cores than ever before which will lead to much more sophisticated physics and AI implementations, not only that but because AMD CPUs have traditionally had more cores than intel equivalents (FX 6300 a 6 core CPU at the same price point as a hyper-threaded intel dual core processor ) this will give AMD CPUs at every price point a significant advantage over Intel CPUs.

@LinusTech & @Slick have expressed their disagreement with this argument more than once before, believing that these console optimizations will have very little effect on the PC.
Well now it's not only I that believes strongly in the argument for more parallelism and the positive effect it will have boosting game performance of AMD CPUs, but so does the legendary John Carmack, when he gave his keynote at Quakecon yesterday.

Yes, future games will use 8 CPU cores as I & @Kuzma have been reporting for the past year.

This has been confirmed numerous times, through tech legends such as John Carmack, Matt Higby & the guys at EPIC.

I covered this topic numerous times :
    https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/10522-game-developers-choose-amd-over-intel-for-gaming/
    https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/42309-console-optimizations-will-boost-amd-cpu-performance-on-pc-according-to-john-carmack/
    https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/43230-console-optimizations-will-improve-amd-cpu-performance-in-planetside-2/

Currently the games that have been confirmed to be optimized for the AMD 8 core CPUs are :
BF4, Watchdogs, Thief & CoD Ghosts.

Publishers that have commuted to AMD's Mantle API include : EA & Activsiion.

While I like AMD CPUs a lot, the 4670k blows the 6300 out of the water. It's a hexa core, but it's 6 weaker cores so to say and 99% of the games are single core anyways so you'll be better off with the 4670k.

The 280x is somewhat better than the 770 [the 770 is a rebranded 680 the 280x is a rebranded 7970. And I had a lot of trouble with the 680 so personally I'd go with the 280x over the 770 and go with the i5 over the 6300. Yes, Intel CPUs and AMD GPUs work flawlessly (using a i5 2500k and a 290x myself ]

The 770 will be fine for gaming, but you can always get a little more and I tried to balance it out a little bit more with the 780 + i5 instead of 770 + i7. But it really depends on your budget. ^^ If the monitor is included in the budget, ya the 770 will be ea better price match and do fine at 1080p.
I'd go with the Barracuda because it's quite a bit cheaper than the WD black usually ^^ And don't forget the SSD, one component that makes a night and day difference in System speeds ^^

Here would be my recommendation for you: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3hlfF

I went a bit over your budget, yet, you can pick up Qnix 1440p monitors for as low as $280 on Ebay. That cuts about $110 off of the PCPartPicker total (which was $1665), leaving you with $1555. (Only $55 above your budget).

Something I would like to point out to you is that even with a 780, you won't be able to play 1440p very smoothly... Have you considered just picking up two IPS 1080p panels? You would be able to game on one and use the other as an auxiliary monitor which could be useful if you're talking to a friend in teamspeak or skype. You would get much better framerates, but it is your choice. Do as you wish.

A few things that I would like to bring to your attention considering AMD processors is that AMD 'cores' aren't full fledged cores. They use Piledriver Modules inside, making an AMD hex-core an Intel triple-core (if those were still around). Essentially they use two cores to work together as one piledriver module which is the same speed as one intel core. Their 8-core model is the equivalent of an intel quad core without hyperthreading (Essentially the 4670k) and that is why they are priced so similarly.  I'm no 'expert' on this and what I just told you is about the extent of my knowledge on the matter. If you have more questions about that, consult Google (Or make a new thread on here )

My recommendation would be to use an intel i5 like a 4570 or 4670k because each individual core is much faster than the AMD cores and I would go with the most expensive GPU you can get except for the gtx 780ti or titan variants. Dont get the WD black unless your putting it in a case without enough space for a regular HDD and SSD. 8 gbs of Ram will be more than enough. On the CPU side more Cores is not always useful. In gaming a FX-6300 will do the same as a 4670k or the 4670k will do a little better but on more cpu oriented tasks the 4670k (or 4570 whichever) will do much better than the FX-6300. In the end look at benchmarks before you make up your mind.

You only need a H100i if you plan on overclocking, otherwise get a Hyper EVO 212
8Gb of RAM is plenty for gaming.
4770k is pointless for gaming, 4670k will give you identical performance.
Now use the money you saved for a 780 or higher instead of the 770.
Get a Seagate Barracuda and an SSD instead of the WD Black
