  1. Just out of curiosity - Can I use thermal tape instead of thermal pads to cool my vrams? My pads are a bit too thick
  2. Yeah, u did read right I got an old GPU from a friend (RX 480) and wanted to try it out. Once I built it in and turned on the pc, the pc turned off within a second and little smoke came out of the back (gpu/mainboard) It also did smell burned. I immediately pulled out the power adapter and took the GPU out. I then turned on the pc again without gpu, worked well. I did let stay it turned on with no gpu for about 5 minutes to see if there will be any issues - none. Then I built in my GPU, turned it on again - worked fine. I did a CPU, RAM and GPU stress test - everything fine and no smoke/burned smell. Is there anything I have to worry about? I did a dumb mistake - i really do hope that I dont have to replace any hardware tho
  3. hallo! i installed my ryzen 7 3700x today with a custom cooler - be quiet shadow rock 3. i started gaming and checked my cpu temperatures in the background with Core Temp and noticed that my temperatures are jumping 3-4 degrees within seconds. for example: 64 to 70 and then back to 66 within 10 seconds. is that usual? should the cpu even get 70 degrees while gaming with the custom cooler?my worries are that i might have fucked up the thermal paste or didnt put the cooler spot on the cpu.
  4. Random question, how significant/important is this piece of metal on my heatsink? i bought new thermal pads, threw the old ones away and the newer ones appear to be too thick..the gpu has no contact with the heatsink but it would if I removed that piece of metal.
  5. he has the same card and got it working. will go for it. thanks!
  6. wait, so it wont work my rtx 2060 as its listed as known incompatibility gc?
  7. Can it also be the arctic liquid freezer ii 120mm? its 20 euro cheaper.^^
  8. Arctic Accelero would be my #1 choice but regarding to arctic support its not compatible. my budget is 75€
  9. I read that thread days ago, its probably the same card. sucks. I will still try to return the card or atleast get the rev.2 model... I just did 2 stress tests, the second one with open side panel, both did read 88°C and had an average temperature of 85-86°C, so it cant be the airflow..!
  10. Random question: does a semi-modular PSU make a difference in temperature vs a modular one?
  11. Little update: used the GPU on a friends case, it reached 83°C in less than 7 minutes. card throttled down from 1930 to 1860. after 20 minutes it was at 1750-1780 MHz. Card permanently staid at 83°C. His RX 590 had 66-69°C all the time
  12. my fan is at 100% when under load. its a custom fan curve that will run at 100% when it hits 75°C it is. im monotoring it with gpu-z while I play and when it reaches 83°C it says thermal..the boost clocks also decreases from ~1920 to ~1700 MHz
  13. Thanks for your reply. I will try the GPU in my friends computer, he has a rx 590 that never overheats playing cod. If my card still reaches 83 degrees within minutes I will send it back
  14. why would I be fine seeing my GPU thermal throttling evey game? I watched dozen of videos on youtube and none of these cards were above 79°C while playing games that loads the GPU more than FN does. I will try it. Im not optimistic, lets see tho
