  1. DIY modern age Chip PC's JackPC Hey, I just saw this Video about the "JackPC" which is a tiny PC that fits in your wall-socket. I was wondering: How would it look like in modern times? What would be the use cases? Would I be able to build my own with standard parts or just small custom PCBs? I would love to see you try creating a modern version of the JackPC. Maybe even go the extra mile an order some custom PCBs to connect a Pi or something. Might be a fun challenge, and a proper use case, to make one run as an access node for a remote PC (HDMI out, USB Ports, Audio, Bluetooth).
  2. Hey, also there are a lot of threads about "What Laptop should I get" I wasn't quite able to find what I was looking for. I'm looking for a replacement for my Surface 6. It's been acting up, the 8 GB Ram and the limited fast sorage space really slow me down. Besides a few details, I know pretty well what I want. But I can't find a fitting Laptop. So I need your help! Budget: 1000 € at least 16 GB Ram (expandable / not soldered) at least 512 GB SSD Storage (expandable / not soldered) good Battery life Convertible - I don't need to take notes as often as I used to on my Laptop, but I don't want to give up that functionality I'm used to by now... Workload: frequently CAD, Photoshop, ... but mostly "standard office work". Rarely Gaming (but I might again, if the laptop is capable for light gaming) I was also thinking about, if a Thunderbolt port would be worth it, for the option of attaching an eGPU in the future. But that kind of (or maybe I'm wrong) clashes with the CAD workload. The workload would suggest more cores, meaning Ryzen, which would block the eGPU in the future. I've been looking at: HP ENVY x360 Convert 13-bd0780ng (Intel Version) HP ENVY x360 Convert 13-ay1776ng (AMD Version) Lenovo ThinkBook 14s Yoga ITL Mineral Grey, Core i7-1165G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, DE Do you have any suggestions and thoughts?
  3. okay. that seemed to be the problem... There was the LGAgent running in the background using all resources... But CPU upgrade will be coming soon
  4. might have been more.. but it's worth now for sure... CPU Temps: are under 70°C. Clock Speed seems to stay at 3.68GHz Another concerne would be the CPU usage of 40-50% while idling windows. I'm thinking that might be the main problem. Perfomance was good, when idle usage was lower (maybe 5%)
  5. By checking the FPS and the feel of the Game. For example did the FPS decreased from 70 to 40ish in CS:GO. Strangely one time it run very well...
  6. Hey, I upgraded an RX 460 for an RX 590 this Christmas. While testing the performance it looks to be significantly worth then before!? Sometimes it's as expected but othertimes just way worth. The CPU was running before the Upgrade just like the GPU at 100% usage. The GPU usage dropped to like 40-50%. CPU stayed the same. (As expected. CPU Upgrade will come later (Any recommendations? I was thinking about an used i5 6600K)) Here is the PC before the upgrade: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i3-6100 3.7 GHz Dual-Core Processor €139.66 @ Amazon Deutschland Motherboard Gigabyte GA-B150-HD3P ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory Crucial 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage Samsung 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive €45.98 @ Alternate Video Card Sapphire Radeon RX 460 4 GB NITRO Video Card Power Supply Corsair CXM (2015) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply €89.44 @ Amazon Deutschland Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total €275.08 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-12-25 16:25 CET+0100 Everything stayed the same, just the GPU got upgraded. I know that the CPU is a big bottleneck, but that was also the case before the Upgrade. So why is performance decreasing? Any ideas? Or any way for me to troubleshoot.
  7. Thanks! So you think it's not worth upgrading the CPU, if it's to expensive?
  8. Hey, I need your help! I want to upgrade this PC: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i3-6100 3.7 GHz Dual-Core Processor €126.67 @ Amazon Deutschland Motherboard Gigabyte GA-B150-HD3P ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory Crucial 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage Samsung 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive €45.98 @ Alternate Video Card Sapphire Radeon RX 460 4 GB NITRO Video Card Power Supply Corsair CXM (2015) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply €89.96 @ Amazon Deutschland Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total €262.61 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-12-14 11:13 CET+0100 The budget is around 250€ - 300€ (German Market, that would be around 330USD). I was thinking about getting a RX 580/590 or a used GTX 980Ti and if possible a used i5 6600K. But I'm a little worried about buying used parts over the internet without being able to check if they work. Thus I might just upgade the GPU and wait with the CPU. I don't really know if thats a good idea. Any suggestions? Or is there a good motherboard, CPU, GPU option within the budget? The goal is to be able to play basically all games 1080p around 60fps.
  9. I know. The Setup listed is the current PC I want to upgrade. (There are also not all prices listed.)
  10. Hey, since I'm kind of out of the game I hoped you guys can help me. My little brother wants to upgrade his PC for Christmas. He wishes to be able to play games like Witcher and other demanding games in 1080p, 60fps. This is his current rig: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i3-6100 3.7 GHz Dual-Core Processor $118.99 @ SuperBiiz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-B150-HD3P ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory Crucial 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory $54.89 @ Amazon Storage Samsung 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $39.99 @ Amazon Video Card Sapphire Radeon RX 460 4 GB NITRO Video Card Power Supply Corsair CXM (2015) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply $58.54 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $272.41 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-12-11 05:16 EST-0500 Budget is around 300€ (Germany) / 330 USD. He also wants to upgrade to a 144Hz display early next year. That might be relevant. It would also be great, if the upgrade lasts a few years. I was thinking about upgrading the CPU (sone i5 that fits and has good clockspeeds) and the GPU. Or should I switch to AMD? Any suggestions?
