Update: everything worked just fine and I validated in CPU-Z that both sticks are working in dual channel. Thanks everyone for the help!

Thanks to everyone for the input and feedback, this is super helpful. Out of curiosity, how difficult is it to tweak this stuff in the BiOS? Is it as simple as inputting the lowest specs of both sticks? Also, once I boot into Windows how do I check to make sure both sticks are working properly? Task Manager>Performance>Memory?

My friend just upgraded his RAM and is giving me his old 8GB stick tomorrow. I want to upgrade from my 8GB set-up to 16GB if possible. I understand that mixing RAM does not always work, so I'm wondering if this is even a possibility; and if there is anything I would need to tweak the the BiOS to get it running correctly. The specs of my current RAM is 8GB of GeIL Evo Potenza DDR4 2400 17-17-17-39 1.2v The specs of the RAM he's giving me is 8GB of Apacer DDR4 2666 CL19 1.2v Any other info appreciated. Thanks!
