It was my freshman year in college. I don't remember if It was an AMD Athlon or a Duron, but it was my first AMD build (I had an Intel Pentium III before this). I fried the processor on an ECS motherboard when I turned it on for the first time after assembling it.

I saved up what little money I had back then just to get it only to screw it up.  However, it was a good thing that the store I bought it from RMA'd without asking how I effed it up.

Would be expensive for cities to implement it properly.
Because while currently cars have all the sensors built in, ideally in some cities, especially in the great white north, external sensors built around the city would likely be preferable to tell the cars where the road is (with snow on it), pedestrians and what not. To allow the system to predict ahead of time where there's a lot of traffic in order to avoid it and what not. But this would mean that outside of cities, you likely wouldn't have access to such external sensors.

Then there's the whole privacy issue, if your car has a ton of cameras hooked onto it, who is to say it doesn't have other things like a microphone for the inside of the vehicle and sending that data back to "big brother" ... Then again if that were the case, it would likely be discovered by "hackers" soon enough and nobody would be buying the car in question.

Overall I personally don't see these as a big "negative" against self driving cars, due to the overall benefits they would be offering in the first place... Just that it really would be harder for these to work anywhere there is snow, even if they rely on GPS to determine where the roads are, things like construction work and what not that blocks out the path couldn't be detected ahead of time and you'd basically get stuck.

I got it for my 16th birthday IIRC, so 4 years ago now. Thing lives in my duster, need to pull it out and sharpen it up sometime tbh, but it mostly pulls very occasional box cutter duty.

After having an unexpectedly terrible RMA experience with ASUS and learning ASUS sucks at Warranties, RMA, and general customer support, it seems like a "Review Companies' RMA Process" Series might be in order. Perhaps done in a similar manner to that PreBuilt PC Secret Shopper series?

In contrast my EVGA RMA experience was great. They were incredibly helpful and accomodating. They were super understanding, and did their best to accommodate an awkward situation within the limits of their systems.

What was really galling about the ASUS experience is that their phone loop bragged they have "Best In Class" Warranty and Customer Support.

    Which is a complete fabrication.

EVGA puts them to shame with default 3 year warranties, excellent customer support, and they have a freaking Step Up Program!

Customers should know what to expect if something goes wrong. In general Warranty and RMA process gets little mention in most reviews. Which is interesting because as much we expect things to simply work, sometimes the defect can take time to show up and present itself. And then when it does it can possibly shut a person down and leave them at the mercy of uncaring and profit driven RMA system.

It's fascinating experiencing both extremes personally. EVGA goes above and beyond. While ASUS barely meets the minimum legal requirements, and at times doesn't even meet them.

Search "ASUS RMA" and "ASUS Warranty" on Reddit if you want to read horror story after horror story of RMAs gone nightmare. It's insane. Some of these companies need to be checked.

How do I get this idea into his head more effectively? Twitter? Is there a specific forum that's best for floating ideas at him?

My (hopefully not too naive) hope is that if companies like ASUS that are barely even doing the minimum, and often worse than the minimum, get some attention that would encourage them to do better.

This RMA is a fucking nightmare mess. Over two hours with customer support on the phone, and about 1.5 of that on hold.

The level 2 support guy I finally talked to couldn't do more than dictate my rant and pass it on to higher ups. The same ones it had been passed to when I called in about the RMA return being defective also. So I'm not expecting much.

I was trying to hint, and even said directly, that something extra as an apology might help retain me as customer.  Their idea of "extra" is a "white box" motherboard that's "brand new" but has no accessories. Providing a working replacement is a bare minimum standard for a warranty/RMA. Better odds it won't be defective or DOA is not exactly generous or extra in my book. I would imagine they think it's an extra to pay shipping for the RMA return back to them, but I'm not paying shipping, or anything at all, for their mistake.

And then their phone loop tries to claim ASUS has "best in class" Warranty and Customer Support. That's an outright lie when EVGA blows them out of the water.

ASUS support is garbage. And so is their RMA process.

I sent my B450f in for RMA due to a sudden USB Over Current Error. Got a replacement back, and it had dead USB headers, and then started showing the same error! (Different Serial # though.)

Now I'm trying to get it done under a new RMA and they are making a fucking mess of it. Two case numbers, 3 RMA numbers, and they somehow think they have my broken one in for a repair(they don't, the person I sold it too has it :/) And they're somehow telling me this: "Your product is Out of Warranty or judged as customer induced damage(CID). It should be paid for repair. Service center will contact you with further quotation within 3 days."  Which it is just out of Warranty now(Dec 1,) but considering they sent me a defective RMA return they never fulfilled the original in warranty RMA. An there is no customer induced damage. It's complete crap!

ASUS may have some good products. But pray you don't have to RMA anything. It's a fucking nightmare!!!!

On the other hand EVGA was amazing when I had to RMA my GPU. They were incredibly helpful and accomodating.

Linus should do a video(series?) and review various companies RMA process. Do ASUS, MSI, EVGA, Gigabyte, Corsair, etc and see who actually even fulfills their minimum legal obligation
