SolarNova got a reaction from porina in Community fights back against publishers (i.e. Ubisoft) killing live-service games (i.e. The Crew)
If a game has a dedicated enough fan base, even if most of game code is server side, the fans can rebuild it from scratch if they have to, to keep it alive.

An old example from a simpler time it may be, but. Westwood Studios Earth & Beyond was/is a space based MMO, a spiritual predecessor to Eve Online.
It like games like Blizzards WoW, and D3, had the vast majority of its game code server side, the client was non functional without it.
When EA (fk EA !) bought out Westwood studios, for the sole purpose of owning the C&C franchise, they immediately shutdown Earth & Beyond.
it took many ..MANY years, but a small dedicated group of fans rebuilt the game from scratch using what little info they could get there hands on, and now you can play the fully functional game online again.

It would have been nice if this wasnt necessary as the player base most likely would have been much bigger in the years following the official servers demise.
And while games that are good enough and popular enough can always be 'resurrected' with enough dedication from talented fans, forcing publishers to release the code neccesery to maintain private servers or otherwise allow client side solo play is a much desired and needed thing, im all for this.

I hate AMDs 'control center' ..its way to bulky.

The NVCP is sooo much better, nice and concise, all it needs is added functionality for overclocking and such, but with the same UI style. I don't want a massive unwieldy bulky 'modern' UI. its entirely unnecessary and impractical.

Seriously, saying something is 'modern' doesn't make it better. new isnt always good, and a massive Ui with a crap tone of wasted space just for 'style' ..is BAD. Its not a game its utility program for crying out loud.

.... look at the size of that UI ..urgh ...you just know its going to be a compulsory 'upgrade' ...im rly not looking forward to this.

Even there however you have big problems.

Some would consider BDSM and similar 'fetishes' unsafe.
Some unfortunate people believe certain drawn and/or 3d modeled pornographic content, to be 'unsafe'.
It brings into question 1st of all what is the definition being used, and secondly, who should be considered capable of determining that.

Do we really want to level such responsibility to those who assign the qualities of sentient life to inanimate objects and 'art' ?
Do we accept the arguable notion that certain drawn or otherwise 3d modeled 'depictions' of certain pornographic scenarios as harmful ,and promote such acts in real life, whilst at the same time accepting/condoning that drawn, 3d modeled, and even real life acted examples of other things such as violence and extreme violence is not harmful and promoting such acts ?
Why are slasher films acted out by real people and made to look real, even based on real events considered fine, but certain drawn pornographic content is considered harmful ?
It was once argued that violent video games caused harm in real life, that was eventual squashed with scientific studies.

As far as im concerned you can have it one way or the other ..but not both. I dont care which side you choose.. ban both ..or dont ban ether.. but u cant be hypocritical.

Theres a whole rabbit hole of issues.

The last thing u want is porn sites treated like social media sites. Social Media sites are already rampant with more illegal content than ull ever see on a pornsite. Even the stories from the mainstream media about the likes of pornhub having illegal content is blown WAAAAAY out of proportion, I have never talked to any1 in real life who has seen it nor have I seen such content myself there EVER. If it was so prevalent i would have met som1 by now who had seen it.

As for the Ai argument. I actually spent some time looking into how one would use AI programs to created pritty much anything.
I think the media 'hype' around Ai is overstating the accessibility of it. Its ALOT harder to get into with every easy to use AI service or program being a paid for service. many of which are hidden amongst a plethora of dodgy or outright scam sites.
Those that are available are not exactly 'easy' to use or setup infact most require some knowledge of programing to get running (more so concerning those that deal with faces and human/animal recreation.)
Face swappers and deepfakes are not easy to make, at least for free. So worrying about a massive influx of shoddy AI content, or outright illegal AI content (which is a discussion in and of itself) i dont think is something to be to worried about yet.

Correct me if im wrong but i know of no readily available, 100% free, easy to use Ai service or program that can handle Human / animal recreation. E.G Deepfakes. A simple google search certainly doesnt help.
So worrying about AI from that sense and in regards to the OP about pornsites being governed like social media, i think is an overstep. its not necessary.

Now for other types of AI creation, landscapes, inanimate object creation , in relation to art or otherwise. I dont see an issue tbh. Thres no moral issues at play unlike with face swapper and deepfakes. And the legal argument amount to "but mah money ! " which frankly i couldnt care less about , its just people bitching that more people are gaining access to an area of creation that was/is currently held by a smaller group pf people. Besides that content isnt exactly found on pornsites so isnt relevant to the OP 😛

But you have without calling it aspect ratio. You keep going on and on about the tv and monitor being different height. Do you know why they are different height? Because they are different aspect ratio. The two are linked. Lenght/width ARE aspect ratio. It's the same thing. So you comparing a short and wide monitor with a tall and narrow TV is just comparing two different aspect ratios.

And to bring it back, TV's and monitors come in MANY physical aspect ratios. If you don't want a short and wide one, then don't get it. Find a narrow and tall one.

SolarNova got a reaction from JH12 in How to choose a monitor: What information to know, and where to find it.
“Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a life time”

The search for a monitor for many people ends in 2 ways:

They purchase a monitor seen on a retailer site based purely on specs and advertisements, and are done.
    or
They come to a technology forum and ask for advice.

The latter usually results in them asking if monitor A or B is best, or what specs they should look for, and then people reply with suggestion usually based on the same advertised specs seen at retailers and/or 1st or 2nd hand subjective opinion.

The problem with this is that the display industry has a hidden world of details that are very important for those who want to make an informed purchasing decision, but seldom few ever get to know these details, details that directly relate to the quality of the display and its true capabilities beyond the usual fluff marketing material. These hidden details are known to enthusiasts who know of the few competent, thorough reviewers out there that can provide those details. But being in the minority this results in advice from such individuals possibly being missed by those who need that advice.

This is a guide on what information to look for, and where to find it, beyond the basic and often misleading ‘specs’ advertised by the manufacturers, retailers, and many of the self-proclaimed ‘reviewers’ seen online, so that you may make an informed purchasing decision on your own, for the most part.

Let’s start off with an important notice:
Any suggestions given to you for any monitor should be accompanied by a thorough tested review source, if it isn’t then such suggestions will be based purely on subjective opinion, often based on specs alone, which, as stated, can and usually are very misleading and missing lots of important information.

Now let’s move onto the ‘guide’.

Do not rely on advertised specs, and do not compare advertised specs. If its not a reviewed monitor, you're taking a gamble.
As will become evident as you go through this guide and follow the links to reviewers, the advertised specs can be and usually are very misleading. You can use them to glean basic information like resolution, size, frequency, number of ports etc, but things like 'response time' should be taken with a massive grain of salt.

    Price:

    Display Size/Viewing Distance/Resolution

    Quality:

    Panel Types:

    Uniformity:

    Pixel response speed (Response time):

    Input lag:

    Colour gamut and coverage:
This is a section I will not be getting into.
The simple reason being that if it’s an important aspect to you, you should already know everything that needs to be known for your given hobby or profession.

For the vast majority of people you won't need to know what things like the Adobe-RGB coverage or DCI-P3 coverage mean and are used for.
It is however tested for by most competent reviewers and so you can look there if interested.

    Colour Accuracy:
As with above this is most important for professionals and certain hobbyists, however this is still somewhat relevant for everyone in my opinion.

    HDR and SDR:

    Where to look:

Now that we have gone through some of the most important 'hidden' aspects of Monitors, where do you find this information ?

As mentioned, reviewers. However, you will need to find those who test objectively, display the results, and ideally also inform you of their testing methodology so you can compare displays across different reviewers.

Here are a few places you can check.

    Why isn’t LTT included?
I like LTT as much as the next person, however, when it comes to display reviews they lack details, and are for the most part halfway between a ‘overviewer’ and a proper ‘reviewer’.
Some of their videos will include information like colour accuracy and gamuts, they may even attempt a basic ‘blur’ amount test, but they are not currently at the level of Rtings or Hardware Unboxed. If you see a monitor on a LTT video and you think it looks good, I would still suggest you check the above sources first before purchasing.
    Update: 17/12/22
LTT labs is now capable of providing detailed reviews of displays, keep an eye out for future reviews.

    TVs as a monitor?
This ‘guide’ isn’t for TVs however a quick word on them

Why should you trust the above information to be true?

Display manufacturers are tight lipped when it comes to specific information about their displays that are not included in their advertisement material. And for good reason, no one wants potential customers to know the faults of their products.

However, statements like "the response time spec is massively misleading" can be tested, and has been. Every reviewer who tests pixel response speed comes out with an average pixel response speed that is different from the advertised specs, some even go so far as to try and replicate the advertised spec, and that is where we find out how the manufacturers get away with advertising these figures. They are 'technically' not a lie, just hugely misleading.

This is the same for all the above information, reviewers that have shown their testing method can confirm all the tested information they have gathered and it can be replicated, within panel variance, and thus confirmed to be true.

With the above information in hand, and links to a few reviewers where further more detailed information can be found, you should have all you need to make an informed purchasing decision when looking for a monitor.

If anyone thinks I should add any information to this post, do feel free to speak up.

Obviously the case is down to personal taste for the most part, i'd suggest u keep with one with a mesh front for airflow.

The above system would be suitable for a CPU upgrade in the future to something like a 13700K.

    or

go the AMD route which could upgrade to a 5800X3D with DDR4.

The intel route will have worse performance to begin with in games that use alot of threads, but stronger with games that use less threads.

Meanwhile the AMD will start of weaker in lower thread count games and stronger in higher thread count games.

Both are equally strong in gaming when upgraded to their best performing CPU, the 5800X3D for the AMD build and u can go as high as a 13900K on the Intel one. Ofc the 13900k is alot more expensive (about double) vs the 5800X3D.

The C2 has no issues being used as a PC monitor for gaming, the issues arrive if the user 'abuses it'. Just be mindful that its OLED and it will be fine.
For text work ..its not hte best due to its subpixel layout, but its a small issue. See review below.

The MEG ...its got a few issues ..predominantly pixel response. Without OD is not fast enough.. with OD it has massive overshoot.

Unless u specifically want dedicated ultrawide, i'd get the OLED.. bare in mind due to the C2 size u can always run a custom ultrawide resolution on it with black bars (pixels off) to get that ultrawide experience.

Ah , sry i missed the fact u dont have access to wired Ethernet.
Ok well u can forget the whole white aesthetic and just grab a wifi equipped Motherboard like the Gigabyte B760M DS3H AX, or keep with the white aesthetic and get the ASRock B760M Steel Legend WiFi for 25 euro more.

Aye ideally u'd get at least the 6800XT , good performance level and its good bang for buck, however since u need a monitor as well it makes it a bit harder to fit a good GPU choice AND a suitably balanced Monitor at the same time.
Not that there is anything wrong with a G27Q + 6800XT, its just that many people like upgrading to an ultrawide at some point, u have the possibility to do that now and "build into it" in the future with a GPU upgrade as games get more demanding. if ur not into ultrawide then there isnt anything wrong going with the G27Q.

Ultimately, any1 serious about PC gaming, which would include someone willing to spend 1600 euro on a PC :P, should be aiming to eventually get a top tier Monitor which nowadays means, OLED. Building a beast of a PC to set game settings to max or near max only to be let down by a display that cant give you the full experience , is a waste.

Managed to even fit a 'white' theme into it ..with the exception of the GPU .

I'm not one to suggest skimping on the Monitor, it will almost certainly outlive the PC build itself so shouldnt be something u skimp on. I usually advise at least matching the cost of the GPU for the monitor budget, ideally more. In this case u can get a 1440p ultrawide if u drop down from a 6800XT to a 6750XT..or 6700XT if u want to save another 50 euro.
    otherwise a M27Q monitor and a 6800XT is a possibility.
