Description of Original Problem: Sudden drops in core clock when playing games. From 4,4GHz to 500MHz or even lower, sometimes just over 1GHz, all over the place. These drops are very quick and don`t always occur, but when they do it`s all the time. These drops are vbery noticeable on games as it causes frame drops and makes the sound cut off too. It also caused some GPU driver timeouts and even made the computer go to sleep once too
Troubleshooting: It first happened when i built this PC, but it stopped, I don`t remember if i did something or it just stopped on its own, but when i updated the bios to the latest version it started happening again, but when i reverted to the older version i had originally it continued (I am at the newest version again now). I tried updating chipset drivers and it helped, but didn`t resolve the issue. I tried turning off PBO but it also didnt help. Turning on eco mode (45W) helped but didnt resolve the issue. Disabled ULPS, didnt work
After this I contacted AMD and Biostar support and they gave a few troubleshooting steps, none of them worked. The best config that i found was to set the cpu to a fixed clock, this way i can still use the computer. But if i fire up a game the system will crash and turn off in a few minutes
Do i have a bad chip or is my motherboard crappy? (biostar is very bad i learned it the hard way). Or is there a config that could help? At this point im only trying to figure out if it is the processor or the motherboard that is defective, because i will just buy another one
Thanks in advance
