Only if you do static damage while wiping it and make sure it’s 100% dry before re-assembly.

    yes
Not as long as you don't do anything silly.

As others have suggested, use 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol and Q-tips/paper towels. After it's fully clean, let it dry, apply the new thermal compound and reassemble. Just remember while this may improve your thermal performance and prevent the computer from overheating if it was before, it will not improve the actual performance of the computer or make it faster, unless it was thermal throttling or overheating and hindering your performance and that's why you're doing it.

How about using some medical alcohol and cu-tips but be gentle while cleaning it so to not do any damage.

Alcohol and a paper towel/cotton bud.
Alternatively to alcohol you could use water too, but that evaporates at a slower rate, meaning you have to wait longer for it to dry.

I just took out this from my laptop X509FJ and I want to paste new thermal compound to improve the performance
Can someone help me how to clean it and how to paste the new one properly?

I can't imagine they mention 16GB max, with 4GB soldered in. Meaning you could place a 16GB stick and it wouldn't work with the 4GB anymore..? Highly unlikely indeed. Must be a SODIMM slot on the other side yea..

Exactly. I have seen some laptops with up to 12gb - and then 4gb is soldered as you mentioned.

Yeah. I was looking at that. Then it can't be soldered? Just hard to get to.. lol

The other memory slot is located on the opposite side (under the keyboard)

Probably soldered somewhere in the laptop, I would be willing to guesstimate it might be at the other side of the board where the empty slot is located. In theory there could be a SODIMM socket at the other side too, but it being soldered in is much more common.

It's actually really common with laptop to have soldered in memory and allowing up to 12GB to be installed.. When they mention up to 16GB I always get confused how though..
