  1. So I installed the RAM and i7. Switched from i7-4810MQ @2.8GHz TDP 47W to the i7-4800MQ @2.7GHz 47W TDP. That saved me 20 bucks and I don't care about the slightly lower frequency. I'll start with RAM: HUGE bonus to switch from 4GB to 16GB. Chrome likes it too. Chrome tabs now don't need to reload because RAM was capped out. Regarding the CPU: Really nice upgrade. More than I expected. Great tip to set the expectations low. PC definitely feels "snappier" when opening programs and working on the machine. No more lags when surfing the web. Watching 1080p 60fps is now possible (Might also be that I was bottlenecked by RAM). PC started right up with no problems at all. Gave it a good clean while it was open. Currently installing Guild Wars 2 and will be checking out the performance. Really happy with the upgrade and looking forward to using it in uni and maybe bringing it to LANs where low intensity games are played (AoE, GW2). I would like to thank you guys again for your input! Cheers DaYn
  2. I'm not expecting night and day. But the i7 will run (boosted) @1.5x the clockspeed of the i3 (with twice the cores and threads). Whenever I'm doing small tasks the i3 is working at 100% of its capacity. I'm just hoping the machine will run a little bit faster and smoother.
  3. Thank you guys so much. Your input has been a great help. Ordered the i7 and will keep you posted.
  4. RAM will definitely be upgraded. Went for the 16GB because it wasn't that much more in terms of money. The i7, which offers 2x the cores and threads is priced at 65€; an i5 of that generation is around 35-40€, which would at least give me boost capability. Why don't you think the upgrades would be worth it?
  5. After a little bit more digging I found the model of the laptop and it seems it was also sold with 47W chips. Source: https://www.avadirect.com/Clevo-W670SJQ-Core-i7-Gaming-Notebook-17-3-Full-HD-LED-LCD-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-850M-Intel-GMA-HD-Graphics/Configure/8468646 I even found a review article which stated that the i7-4810MQ was built in. Source: https://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Nexoc-M731-Clevo-W670SJQ-Notebook.115021.0.html The i7 models of this Gen with 37W TDP cost more than the 4810MQ, which has more power. i5 models are 20€ cheaper, which I will gladly spend for extra performance. I would love to try the i7. Worst case is I'm sending it back or is there a possibility of messing up the chip because of the Wattage?
  6. Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately I don't have the resources for a bigger upgrade. This machine will mainly be used for university stuff. Don't know if AutoDesk will run on it, but that is not the problem since I have a fairly powerful desktop PC. I just need a mobile PC that I can take to uni and runs smoothly. i3 & 4GB RAM aren't sufficient. Total cost of parts is around 120€, which is way cheaper than a new machine. I'm not planning on doing heavy duty gaming on it.
  7. Hello Y'all, I am thinking about upgrading the processor of my old laptop from 2014. Specs listed below: Motherboard: W65_67SJ BIOS Version/Date: American Megatrends Inc. 1.03.05, 01/04/2014 CPU (old): i3-4100M @2.50GHz TDP 37W CPU (new): i7-4810MQ @2.8GHz TDP 47W GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M TDP 45W RAM (old): 1x 4GB DDR3 @1333MHz RAM (new): 2x 8GB DDR3L @1600MHz CL11 (Crucial) PSU: A12-120P1A with 120W Operating System: Windows 10 x64 I have two questions regarding the planned upgrade: 1. The i7 has a TDP of 47W which is 10W higher than the i3's. Will this cause any problems? 2. BIOS: Will I need to flash my BIOS? I looked on CPU-Upgrade.com, but my board isn't listed there.. How do I check if my current BIOS is compatible? If there is any relevant information I haven't listed, please let me know. Thank you for reading and your input. Cheers DaYn
  8. Hello all I have the following problem: While my pc works, it seems to be under performing a bit lately in terms of fps in games and sometimes even streams. Everything except the GPU is fairly new. Bought most of the stuff maybe 3-4 months ago. So i went ahead and checked the device manager, which tells me that 3 PCI drivers aren't installed. Maybe thats the reason for the problems ive been having lately. Most of the specs can be seen below. In addition: Motherboard: B450 Tomahawk Max Ram: 16gb DDR4 3600 g.skill Power Supply: Seasonic Focus GX-650 Thank you in advance for your time and help Cheers DaYn
  9. Guess i just have to restart it until it does what its supposed to? I can clearly see the difference between it using the Intel HD and the GTX. Its just so much worse. I hope its fixed for now. Thank all of you for your input!
  10. Ok so ive just restarted the PC multiple times until under the Nvidia Control Panel it said that the preferred GPU is the Nvidia one. I also added the games i play to that list and now it seems to be working again. It used to work just fine until today it switched to the Intel HD GPU. Dont know why it did that. tried that already
  11. Hello to all, As described in the title, my laptop doesn't use its full potential by simply not using the Nvidia card. I have tried disabling HD graphics in the device manager, but then it still doesnt run on the GTX. (I wonder what its running on lol) So i tried switching it with the Nvidia Control Panel. Here i can select what GPU its supposed to use by clicking restore(bottom right) and then selecting desired GPU. After hitting apply it always switches back to the "integrated processor" and not the selected "High performance Nvidia Processor". I also tried setting "rules" so whenever a certain program is opened it should use the GTX GPU for it. Taskmanager doesnt show any activity on the GTX GPU thought... The only time ill get a sign that its using the Nvidia is a short burst to 100% and then 0%. Also shown in attached foto. I have attached files showing the device manager, Nvidia Control Panel, and the Intel Graphics Control Panel. I dont know what to do anymore so im looking for help If there's anymore information that might be helpful i'll happily provide it. Cheers, DaYn95
  12. Alright. I got the 3600MHz. Thank you for your input! Awesome. That just justifies me switching to the B450. Thank all of you for your help. This has helped immensely.
  13. Sounds like a good reason to buy 3600. 3200 CL16 (16-18-18) and 3600 CL19-20-20-40
  14. So i just found 3600 cl19 for the same price. Do you think 3200cl16 or 3600cl19 would be better?
  15. Well 3600 kits are at least 40€ more expensive where i live. I found a really good Black Friday deal on 3200 so its going to be hard to top that. I have a good aftermarket cooler so that shouldn't be the reason for me to upgrade. I feel like the 3600 will give me enough power for gaming or would you recommend getting the 3700x?
  16. Perfect. Just what i needed. Looking forward to installing all my new parts! Might spend the extra bucks i saved on a bigger SSD, since i only have 250gb of SSD storage atm. Again thanks a lot!
  17. Thank you for your input! You helped a lot! Saved me some cash too! I currently only have DDR3 RAM so i'm going to buy new RAM anyways, but 40€ more doesnt seem worth the upgrade to 3600.
  18. Alright thanks a lot for your help! Do you think switching to 3200Mhz CL16 would decrease performance by a lot? Should i stick to the 3600Mhz CL 16 RAM?
  19. Thanks for your answer! PCIe 4.0 is used for some M.2 SSDs, which i dont need, and potentially future GPUs. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  20. Hello to all, i am currently looking to upgrade my CPU and RAM. Looking for advice on my motherboard choice. I wanted to buy the Gygabite Aorus Elite x570 because i read that the new Ryzen chips perform best on the x570 boards. Another reason for me to buy a x570 board is that it has PCIe 4.0 for a future GPU upgrade. On the other hand the b450 boards are much cheaper. Do you think it is worth it spending the extra 100€ to ensure future upgrade possibilities and better CPU performance? I also read that 3600MHz Ram is supposed to be the "sweet spot" for the new Ryzen chips. Currently looking at 16GB 3600Mhz Cl16. Would there be a hit in performance if i switched to 3200MHz Cl16? CPU upgrade will be the Ryzen 5 3600, maybe 3600x depending on if i really want borderlands 3. I know there isnt much of a performance upgrade. PC is mainly used for Gaming and some CAD work. Thanks in advance for your input. Cheers from Germany, DaYn95
  21. @boggy77 alright. Thank you for your feedback! What PSU would you recommend? Is there a special manufacturer you think makes great PSUs? Since my next upgrade would be a new GPU in the future, would you recommend getting a 650W PSU instead of the 550W?
  22. Thank you for your quick reply! Just found out its a LC6550 v2.2. It definitly is an older model, don't know how to tell if its a quality PSU or not.
  23. Wrong Forum, i reposted this on the "New build" Forum. How do i delete this? lol
  24. Hello to all, i am currently looking to upgrade my PC. The current specs are: GPU: GTX 1060 6gb Zotac CPU: Intel i5 3550 CPU-Cooling: Alpenföhn Brocken Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43 Memory: 16gb DDR3 Storage: 250GB Sata SSD Samsung Evo 850 and 1TB Hitachi HDD Power Supply: 550W LC6550 v2.2 Monitor: 1080p 144Hz 1ms A few other things worth noting as well. My motherboard has two PCIe slots for the graphics card. One it PCIe Gen 2 and one Gen 3. Unfortunatly the Gen 3 slot only fits the graphics card loosely. What i mean by that is that the GPU disconnects from time to time which is really annoying so i switched to the Gen 2 slot. Since Black Friday is coming up i am looking to upgrade. I mainly want to fix the Gen 2 slot problem and also want to upgrade my CPU. Now i know that a new Motherboard would mean upgrading CPU and RAM as well. So far i was thinking about going for the Ryzen 5 3600, Aorus Elite x570, and 16GB of DDR4 3600 CL16 RAM. I know that the x570 might be a little bit of overkill, but i want a nice motherboard that i can work with for future upgrades (e.g. PCIe 4.0). Plus i read that the new Ryzen CPUs perform best on a x570 board and the "sweet spot" for RAM is supposed to be 3600MHz. Not sure if the 550W Power supply is enough when going to a more powerful CPU. I am mainly gaming on this machine with the exception of occasional CAD work. Frequently played games are: Rocket League, Singleplayer games like The Witcher III, Middle Earth-Series, Apex Legends and I'm looking forward to playing Cyberpunk 2077. I would greatly appreciate your input since i am no expert on this topic, except for half-read articles and Youtube videos. Cheers from Germany, DaYn95
