  1. Since that's the case, I guess we'll go for the 4070 for the $100 more. Since it's not a significant difference, and with the build I have currently selected being at $2000 exact, I think I'll stick with the 12700KF. I can't see 5% being worth the extra $100 dollars. Here is the final parts list I have compiled thanks to everyone's suggestions. I will probably order everything today since several sales for the parts end in about 14hr. 2. I appreciate all of your input. @SorryClaire 2x monitors are something he specifically requested for his setup since he plans to do streaming(have the game open on one monitor and discord/obs/whatever else on the other) and also work(he's an accountant). I will ask him about in-ear, but I am going to assume he would prefer over-ear headphones. Assuming TKL means tenkeyless, that is also not optional since it is important for his work. I assume he will probably be using OBS. @Somerandomtechyboi I personally am very against second-hand stuff, especially electronics, but I will ask my friend if he is ok with it though. I also see that you selected DDR4, is there any reason for that other than to bring the cost down? Will that impact performance in any significant way? Also, I don't know the PSU brand, FSP Group; is that a reputable brand? @Why_Me I appreciate the thoroughness of your response and I do like the part list you made, I just have some questions. In the Average FPS chart, it shows the RTX 4070 and the Radeon 6800 XT to be basically equal, does the NVENC encoder really warrant the extra $100(I have zero personal experience recording/streaming)? I don't know the PSU brand, FSP Group; is that a reputable brand? Is there any significant performance difference between the 12700KF and 13700F? If you had to choose between the 13700F + 6800XT vs 12700KF + 4070, which would you recommend? I see in your list you only have one monitor, so I need to factor in the additional cost for that, but I found a 1080p Acer monitor that is $120 which should still work for him. I am going to get them through Amazon and tell him that if he ends up wanting a bigger or higher-resolution monitor, he can return it and get something better. Here is the updated list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WWyQFg
  3. Budget (including currency): ~$2000USD Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Going to be used for work(nothing very intensive) and streaming games(Fortnite, Call of Duty, other AAA games) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): This build is 100% from scratch, meaning it needs to include peripherals(2x monitors, mouse, keyboard, headset). PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WrZ9sL CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX ATX AM5 Motherboard ($179.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Kingston FURY Beast 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory ($81.98 @ Amazon) Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($104.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: ASRock Phantom Gaming D OC Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Video Card ($499.99 @ Newegg) Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case ($94.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2023) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.99 @ Best Buy) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Home Retail - USB 64-bit ($138.98 @ Newegg) Monitor: Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQA1A 27.0" 2560 x 1440 170 Hz Monitor ($199.99 @ Newegg) Monitor: Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQA1A 27.0" 2560 x 1440 170 Hz Monitor ($199.99 @ Newegg) Keyboard: Logitech G610 Wired Gaming Keyboard ($60.99 @ Amazon) Mouse: Razer DeathAdder V3 Optical Mouse ($64.99 @ Newegg) Headphones: SteelSeries Arctis Prime Headset ($49.99 @ Amazon) Total: $2046.84 The build is for a friend and I am willing to go Intel, I just have more knowledge/experience with AMD CPUs. For the monitors, since he will also be using it to do accounting work, I figured larger monitors would be better, and 1080p wouldn't look great at that screen size. Those were the cheapest 1440p monitors I could find over 120Hz. Just need opinions on possible alternative components or if this is a good build.
  4. I am unsure if this is where I should post this, but I am really out of ideas on what to do to solve this. Ever since I started playing Warzone on PC, I am rarely able to play more than 30 minutes before the game freezes and crashes. The game does not close and I have to open task manager to force it closed as nothing else I do will close the game. Shortly after the game crashes, I hear the windows notification sound, but do not see any message or pop-up. I tried going to the support site to see about contacting support and ended up in a loop that kept bringing me back to the same page about suggested fixes, all of which I have tried. This does not happen with other games or during stress tests. I do not believe it to be a temperature or power-draw issue. Here is a list of everything I have tried so far: Updated BIOS(This fixed a crashing issue when starting the game would reboot my system) Using multiple different Nvidia drivers(472.12, 512.15, 512.77, 512.95, 522.25) Making sure all other drivers are up to date Making sure Windows is up to date Lowering my in-game graphics setting to basically the bare minimum Switching to DX11 Disabling fullscreen optimizations for Warzone Turning off Discord, Nvidia, and all other overlays I feel like there are a few more that I have tried but can't think of off the top of my head. I enjoy the game and want to play it with my friends, but this just ruins it for me and my whole group because they end up a man down. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X GPU: EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 LHR RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x16 3600MHz c18 PSU: Corsair RM850x OS: Windows 10 Home
  5. After some more looking around online, I found other people with similar problems and a whole thread of people saying the recent Nvidia drivers are just complete trash. I reverted back to driver 472.12 and now stability seems to be just fine in all the games I have played. Needless to say, I will be staying at that version for a while. Gonna put this here in case anyone else has a similar issue and maybe this can help them as well.
  6. It's not a fresh install of windows, but I did run DDU on my old computer to remove all the drivers before moving the storage to my new computer. I would like to avoid having to do a fresh install, but I will if it's necessary. I just ran the memory diagnostics tool and it says 'detected no errors'. I did also run 'sfc /scannow' in command prompt and it came back with "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." although occasionally when I have issues with my computer and run this, is does find issues and "fixes" them. Add all this to OP.
  7. I recently upgraded my pc (100% new except PSU and storage, specs at the bottom). It's not a fresh install of Windows 10, but I did run DDU on my old computer to remove all the drivers before moving the storage to my new computer. Since then, every time I try to play games made with Unreal Engine they crash after anywhere from 2 minutes to an hour. My list of games that I've played since upgrading isn't extensive: Satisfactory, Fortnite, and Oxygen Not Included(ONI). The first two are made in Unreal Engine 4 and 5 respectively while ONI is a Unity game. Fortnite crashed twice(I only attempted to play twice) and Satisfactory, as of writing this, has crashed six times. I played ONI for about 3 hours on a few occasions and there were no issues. Every time I get a crash report it starts with the following: "Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0xffffffffffffffff". The memory address seems to always be different, that's just the most recent one I have received. My GPU driver version is 512.95 - Released 5/24/2022 I built the computer around 5/14/2022 Specs: CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X MBD - ASRock B550 Taichi (Razer Edition) RAM - Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz C16 GPU - EVGA FTW 3080 LHR PSU - Corsair RM850x I'd like to resolve this issue since the games that are crashing are the main games I want to play. Update: I ran the memory diagnostics tool and it says 'detected no errors'. I also ran 'sfc /scannow' in command prompt and it came back with "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." although occasionally when I have issues with my computer and run this, is does find issues and "fixes" them.
  8. Really basic question, but I just want to get some confirmation. I'm taking my Corsair RM850x out of my old computer for my new build and putting an RM750x in for my sister. I assume that since they are both the RMx series from Corsair that I could just leave the cables, but I'd rather be safe then sorry.
  9. I'm looking at the ASRock B550 Taichi and I think that may be what I go with. I appreciate the input from everyone.
  10. Good suggestions, will keep that in mind. I also really liked the VIII Hero because of the huge amount of IO on the back, but that's not a necessity. I would like the bios flashback since I plan to use a Ryzen 5600X, unless manufacturers are now shipping out boards that automatically support 5000-series. Not sure if I want to make the jump to DDR5 it doesn't seem to have a huge benefit from what I have seen and it's still really new. I am doing mostly gaming, but I do stuff like game development in UE4, UE5, and Unity as well as play around in blender from time to time. Either way, I do think I'm sticking with DDR4 as I also am planning to stay with AMD anyway.
  11. So I'm looking at building a new computer and basically giving my current one to my younger sister. This is the parts list I have made. Ignore there's no PSU or storage, I'm taking those from my old pc. Anyway, here is my issue/question: I looked at the QVL list of the motherboard to check RAM compatibility. I didn't see it on there. I decided to look at another motherboard from a different brand, still didn't find it. I looked at ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte(Aorus), and ASRock and none of them seem to support this RAM. It's not like this RAM is from some no name company; it's Corsair. So why is it not showing up on any list? Bonus help: If you have any suggestions for a cheaper motherboard that keeps most of the same "nice-to-have" features(bios flash, clear cmos, LED debugging) that would be great.
  12. I did a "factory reset" of my drivers with AMD's Radeon Software and then went through a massive headache of Windows 10 giving me a BSoD because it had the setting for driver validation enabled. I managed to get into safe boot and disable that so I could actually get into Windows and have it finish removing the old drivers and adding the new one. I haven't had a crash since then(still lousy performance) but it's only been a few days and the crashing wasn't constant. I'm not sure if that's the same thing. PS. Downloading the driver straight from Gigabyte's site just opened up AMD Radeon Software in case you would have asked that next.
  13. Unfortunately I don't. There are only two desktops in my house: the one I'm having issues with and my sister's which hasn't been upgraded in 10 years. I'm still pretty sure it's the GPU though because in the benchmarks it's performing lower than the average for the same GPU and the crash logs seem to point towards GPU issues or at least GPU driver issues. Ya, that's exactly it. Update: I played Fortnite with my friend again yesterday and my FPS jumped all over from 144(where I have it capped) down to 10s.
  14. As the title says I have a Vega 64 GPU, specifically a Gigabyte Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB OC Edition, and it just does not perform well. I haven't really been happy with this GPU since I got it back in 2019, you can see I've posted about it before. Lately though, I have been having more and more trouble with it(although I don't know if it is the sole issue, this will be discussed later). Every once in a while, my computer will freeze, the screens will go black, and then the computer will crash. Unexpectedly, this does not happen while I am doing anything strenuous on my pc: playing games or making games(usually in UE4 or UE5). Most crashes happen simply while browsing the web or watching YouTube. This is not to say that my performance in those tasks is good. Also, I did some research after the last crash and found how to read the memory dump files and the error that it said caused the crash was "amdkmdag.sys" which research leads me to believe is an issue with the GPU or its drivers. I don't typically play all too many games on PC, although I'm trying to get more into it, but the games that I do play a lot of are usually fine. Last week though, my friend decided to get me to play Fortnite, and let me just say that my experience was not great. Although my FPS was not terrible, the frame drops were; my frames would drop as low as single digits for a split second every once in a while. However, when I play another game, Satisfactory, which to me is fairly impressive visually, runs fine for the most part with the only issue being freezing during autosaves, but that's no fault of the GPU. My biggest issue has arisen when doing game development in UE4 and even more so in UE5. Whenever I do any work in either of these game engines, my FPS jumps all over the place and the coil whine of my GPU is so loud that I just limit my fps to 30 to keep it calm. With that said, I've been trying to do more in UE5 since it's now officially released, however, it keeps constantly "freezing". I put freezing in quotes because it's not quite freezing, but dropping down to about 4 FPS and just stuttering but eventually fixes itself after a few minutes. I don't know if this is solely the fault of the GPU or if it's a combination of issues with my pc(specs at the bottom). Today I decided to run some benchmarks. The results are as follows(with links): Userbenchmark: Gaming(53%), Desktop(89%), Workstation(51%) with GPU score at 54.3% 3DMark Time Spy: Graphics(7028), CPU(6930) 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme: Graphics(10392), Physics(18699), Combined(3913) 3DMark PCI Express: Bandwidth(3.52GB/s), FPS(3.6 - 4.0) I will note that in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark, the benchmark started off extremely choppy at under 10 FPS but eventually smoothed out. The results are slightly lower than the average for the Vega 64 on 3DMark Time Spy which is 7494. The PCI Express test is definitely what worries me. This should be running PCIE 3.0 and those are certainly not good speeds since, to my knowledge, I should be getting ~12GB/s. A second run of the benchmark gives identical results. Windows is up to date. All drivers are up to date as per AMD Radeon Software. The BIOS is up to date as per MSI's Dragon Center. With all that said, I have been looking at not only getting a new GPU, but building a whole new computer, but obviously the market is currently not great, so this is sort of last resort(but I wouldn't be totally against it). If there is any way to fix these issues, that would be great. I don't need 4k 120FPS performance(I wouldn't get even close with this hardware), but I'd like the crashing to stop and for games and UE5 to run smoothly at least. Any help is appreciated. 15. As the title says, all media content that I watch, whether it be Hulu, Netflix, or YouTube, plays rather blurry/pixelated. I have 2x Gigabyte G27Q monitors, they're 1440p 144Hz, connected via DisplayPort 1.2 to my Radeon RX Vega 62 8GB. I don't really notice an issue in gaming(it could be there, I just don't notice it), only in media content, and I don't believe it is the content itself or my internet(200 down, 20 up) that is causing the issue especially since watching content through my xbox on my TV at 1080p looks insanely better, even if I get up close to it. The content is not super blocky, but one example I notice that is a key difference between watching on my pc vs. my Xbox is in an episode of The Witcher; just a short panning shot, the tree branches look pixelated and almost "stutter" for lack of a better term on my pc, but not through xbox. I also notice it in faces a lot, but it's present everywhere. Any suggestions as to what the issue could be? Windows 10 and all CPU and GPU drivers are up to date.
  16. Both aren't really possible. I could possibly test the RAM by taking them out and running them one at a time, but I don't have another computer to put them in. I don't have another CPU to swap unfortunately.
  17. 18. That's definitely a good idea to figure out if it is hardware related, but then I'm just as screwed realistically. By partition manager, do you mean something like Rufus?
  19. I would do this but I literally can't download anything, my computer just crashes.
  20. Ok, I am currently working on getting Ubuntu, what would you recommend trying? I don't know if this a virus or a hardware issue because it is just constant crashes and I simply don't have the ability to figure out what parts are having issues.
  21. So basically I don't know what happened. Last night I turned my computer off around midnight. Today, I get home from work around 4pm, turn my computer on, it takes a really long time to boot and log me in, and then I am greeted by a black screen with flashing task bars. Now I had this issue before several months ago which resulted in me completely formatting all my drives and doing a fresh install of windows, but this time its even worse. The first time this happened, it would usually clear itself up in around 30 seconds and be fairly usable or I'd have to use ctrl+alt+delete, sign out, and sign back in. Obviously as I said before, I ended up doing a complete reinstall of windows which fixed this issue for several months. Now today, after the issue occured, I got a BSOD. But wait, theres more. It rebooted, had the same issue and gave me another BSOD with a different error. In total I got probably 8 BSODs and long story short, I formatted my drives and did a fresh install of windows. Some of the BSOD errors I got are as follows: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, BAD_POOL_CALLER, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. Tests I performed with their results(in this order, so take it as steps): KEY: EP = Samsung 970 Evo Plus INT = Intel 660p Remove 2TB PE and leave just the 250GB PE boot drive. Windows loaded fine and everything seemed to work (besides for programs installed on the removed drive) with the exception of SuperAntiSpyware, this program crashed and then had a BSOD. Remove the 250GB PE and put in INT boot drive. Windows loaded fine and everything worked. Move INT to second M.2 slot to check if it was a MOBO issue. Windows loaded fine and everything worked. Put 2TB PE in first M.2 slot. Same issue as start. With these results, I came to the conclusion that it was the 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus causing an issue, either a virus or a hardware issue. I also noticed on my desktop a little grey line that when hovered over was able to be expanded. I did this and it was a black box with no text, no intractability, and no header showing what it was. I could no locate it in task manager. It was not command prompt. This led me to believe it is infact a virus. I ended up completely formatting the 2TB drive. The issue continued to persist. I got fed up and formatted the boot drive as well and did a complete fresh install of Windows 10. This is the issue now: after a fresh install of windows, my computer is having issues downloading windows updates and won't even install google chrome. Even better, just while sitting here typing this on my laptop, I got another BSOD after it failed to download a windows update. The slow boot, black screen after login with flashing task bars and the little black box are all gone, but my computer is completely unusable. I don't know if anyone can even help me with this, I'm about ready to throw this computer out a window. At this point I'm sure it's probably some kind of hardware issue, but I don't know what. I don't have the money or the parts to start swapping things out to figure out what it is. The only parts I can test are RAM since I have 4 sticks and HDDs/SSDs since I am currently using a 2TB HDD, 2TB SSD, and a 250GB SSD, with an extra 2TB that I had replaced. I also am a CS major in my final year of college and have 2 big game projects that I need to work on which I can't make any progress on until I have a working computer, so I am really screwed.
  22. More updates: Last night the issue occurred again after my computer rebooted itself out of nowhere. It was not in the middle of running an intensive game or development program, in fact, I had played Satisfactory for around an hour and a half about two hours before this crash with no issues. During the crash, all I had running was one or two chrome tabs, discord, and two instances of Wizard101(don't judge). Upon reboot and signing in, this issue occured again and out of frustration, I did Ctrl+Alt+Delete, powered off, unplugged the system and was done with it for the night. Today when logging in twice, the issue occurred both times, but I have some new information. I left my computer unplugged for the entire night and pressed/held the power button for several seconds several times both last night and this morning before plugging it back in. This had no affect from what I can tell. During the first boot, it got to the login screen fairly quickly, but then after entering my pin, took a while to sign me in and ended with the same results. I did the Ctrl+Alt+Delete and signed out, signed back in, everything was fine. One suggestion I had gotten elsewhere suggested uninstalling Radeon Software, so I did this which required a reboot. Upon rebooting, same issue, however this time I did Ctrl+Alt+Delete and opened task manager. Nothing looked strange in there, however I was trying to locate Command Prompt to run a few tests. While trying to locate this by browsing through files, my desktop loaded in and now everything works fine. A few things I have noticed since my original post. I use the Wallpaper Engine software via Steam which is supposed to launch at startup, it has not been doing this. I also noticed the same for Razer Synapse. The difference between these however is that I am able to launch Wallpaper Engine by just opening the app, albeit takes a bit longer than it should because apparently Steam is actually not opening at boot, but Razer Synapse will not launch. I've done tests since people suggested them, so I checked the health on my drives, everything was fine. All results from a handful of tests on the drives reported no errors. A Norton sweep found nothing. Uninstalling AMD Radeon Software did nothing. Performing all windows updates and driver updates which I could find did nothing.
  23. I have seen a few other posts about this but nothing that I have seen has helped, or at least not lasted long. So starting two days ago(December 12), when I turned my computer on it took an unusually long time to boot, but I finally reached the lock screen to input my password. After doing so, it unlocked and all I could see on both of my monitors was a black desktop with no icons and a flashing taskbar. The mouse had the loading symbol with it and clicking the windows home button in the bottom left corner did nothing. I was able to open task manager via pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete, but not much else. I was also able to log out when doing Ctrl+Alt+Delete, which is where this gets a little interesting. After logging out and then reinputting my password, it loads to my desktop perfectly fine, albeit after a longer than normal amount of time. The problem is that I had to do this every single time, and I don't know if there is a bigger underlying issue. Even more interesting, I tried to isolate the issue, and so I disconnected all drives except my boot drive(C drive) and it booted perfectly fine. I reconnected my 2TB internal HDD(D drive), still booted fine. I then reconnected my 2TB M.2 drive(E drive) and the problem occurred again. The thing I tried and got to work had me turn off, unplug, press the power button several times(or hold), replug in, and power on. After this, it booted fine and ran the rest of the day fine. The next day, booted no problem. Today, two days after the initial problem, it has come back. I tried the whole cycle which I just explained to clear the CMOS battery, but this time it did not work. My only real ideas of what it could be are something on my E drive got corrupted, but I don't know why it would cause something like this. I would really hate to format the drive as that would probably take a full day to reinstall a lot of things. The other idea is that I have been noticing some things here and there ever since I upgraded to new monitors, such as my computer randomly restarting, meaning screens go black and my computer goes through a reboot cycle. I went from two 21.5" 1920x1080 70Hz Acer monitors to two Gigabyte G27Q monitors(27" 2560x1440 144Hz). I think that's a coincidence, but if anyone can say that might be the cause, I'd be interested to know. I have downloaded all windows updates, all drivers say they are up to date. I even tried uninstalling my GPU and it's drivers and reinstalling the, no improvement. I did this cause some suggestions led me to believe it could be something with GPU drivers, and AMD Radeon Software(Wattman) won't launch and gives the reasoning "Radeon Software and Driver versions do not match. Please try again after updating to the latest version(s)." This makes no sense to me, considering I go to Gigabyte's support page and the most recent driver listed is from 2018. Technical specs, if applicable: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - NZXT Kraken x72 MSI X570-A PRO Gigabyte Radeon RX Vega 64 OC Edition 32GB G.Skill Trident.z RGB 3200MHz CL16 250GB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, 2TB Seagate HDD Corsair RM850x 80+ Gold Windows 10 Education Whatever advice anyone can give, I would very much appreciate it as this is very annoying. Update: After posting this, I decided to reboot just for the heck of it and it booted fine, but I am leaving this up incase it happens again or if people answers and someone else has a similar problem.
  24. I currently have dual monitors, I would rather keep it as a dual setup because with ultrawide or bigger screens it may be more annoying or difficult to manage windowed applications
