  1. I use Norton Antivirus because I got it for free with my Comcast internet service.
  2. What do you mean "threat model"? If you're asking what I think the threat to my PC is.. I can say not much. I mostly game on it and do some web browsing but not much. Most web browsing I do on my cellphone but I do some banking and forum posts on my PC. I just don't like the idea of websites knowing where I live based on my IP address.
  3. What I mean though when I say "keep my computer safe" is will it prevent websites and companies like Google & Microsoft from knowing where I am logging on from?
  4. Hey there! I just wanted to give you my opinion when it comes to monitors. I replaced my old 1080p monitor with an MSI MAG271CQR 2560x1440p 144hz monitor and I absolutely LOVE it. Fortunately it wasn't too expensive at all either. I think it was $300 USD. After using it for about 2 years I haven't had a single problem with it and I recommend it to anyone who is on a budget and looking for a 1440p 144hz monitor. Hope this helps! I don't work for MSI or receive anything from them I am just very happy with the monitor I got and I think anyone would love it. P.S. I am using the Corsair RM850x for a PSU which is the same model series as the one you have in your first picture (except yours is 750W) and I've had mine for 2 years and haven't had any problems with it at all. I love that Corsair has a 10 year warranty on it. It really shows how much faith Corsair has in the quality of the product.
  5. It seems like EVERY tech channel I watch on Youtube has at least one NordVPN advertisement telling the viewer that it will help keep their computer safe. I believe I've even seen Linus himself advertise it. One thing I do know about it is that it's a Virtual Private Network that can hide my IP address and make it look like I am on the internet from another country rather than give away my exact location in the United States. Anyway I am just curious: Does anyone else use NordVPN and is it worth it? Oh yeah and does it slow down my internet speed at all if I use it? Like will I have issues gaming online? Thanks!
  6. You’re right it is iffy when you put it like that. But on the other hand would it be wrong if someone hacked into someone’s computer and found child pornography and reported it to the police? I guess it all depends on the motivation and how the person did it. In the videos I’ve seen the hacker is only able to gain access because the scammer tries to scam by insisting the victim download AnyDesk/TeamViewer and then he uses those programs the scammer insists the victim download to reverse the connection and do his thing. If the scammer hadn’t told the potential victim to download those programs the hacker would’ve never been able to gain access in the first place. So basically it’s just the hacker is using the scammers own tactics against them. Instead of the scammer taking control of the victims computer it’s flipped and the victim takes control of the scammer’s computer. Because the victim isn’t giving permission to the scammer to access their computer either. Idk to me I just find it infuriating to hear these calls of scammers trying to steal from old people and the mentally disabled. According to the hacker the average age of the victims was 72 and that really angers me.
  7. Ah ok I didn’t know that. Im not trying to argue or be confrontational or belligerent but I’m just curious.. What about YouTube? He has over 900K subscribers and I’ve seen them take down videos that violate their TOS (such as videos of illegal activity) but all of his videos are still up. There’s a few other guys named Lewis’s Tech and Jim Browning who do the same thing and they both have millions of viewers. I guess I just assumed it was legal to watch because it was on YouTube and came up as “Recommended for You”. I am guessing it’s because I watch alot of TechQuickie and Linus Tech Tips.
  8. But is it vigilante if he uses that information he gathers to report them to the Indian Cybercrime Police and they thank him for what he did? That is what is confusing me because it seems like he is helping them do their job. Also if he is Russian maybe it’s legal in Russia? Idk I’m just saying that if you have police in any country thanking you for something you did it seems like it can’t be illegal since police don’t usually thank people for committing crimes.
  9. Fair point. I get what you’re saying but according to Scambaiter he reported all this stuff to the Indian Cybercrime Police along with all the information he collected while hacking them and they thanked him for it and moved to arrest the scammers so I assumed it was legal if the Indian police thanked him for it.
  10. Oh ok sorry about that. I thought it was tech related since it was about white hat hacking. It won’t happen again I promise.
  11. I am confused. What’s the difference between General Discussion and Off Topic? Shouldn’t General Discussion mean it’s for chatting about whatever?
  12. But he doesn’t steal from them. He just intervenes to prevent old people from being scammed.
  13. How so? From what I’ve seen he simply warns the victims that they are being scammed. Sometimes it’s funny because they won’t answer their phone so he will open up Notepad on the victims PC and begin typing: “You are being scammed. Hang up the phone. The people you are talking too are not Amazon. They are scammers calling you from India.”
  14. I was browsing for something to watch on YouTube and I came across a channel called Scambaiter. It’s a Russian guy with very high level hacking skills but who is a white hack hacker who uses his hacking skills to help people rather than hurt them. Most of his videos are him targeting the computers of Indian scammers and deleting all of their files and loading up dozens of malware programs onto their computers so they have to completely reinstall Windows if they want their computers back which results in all of the information on their victims being deleted. From name & address to credit card and social security number. Gone. What I found most heartwarming is that he is a Russian and he intervened MANY times to prevent American senior citizens from being scammed. Sometimes he would call them but often they wouldn’t answer so he opens up notepad on their computer and types “You are being scammed. Hang up the phone. These are Indian scammers and they are not employees of Amazon like they claim. I know you are confused but I promise I am trying to help you. Call me at (phone number) and I will explain everything to you.” Idk I just found it very heartwarming to see a Russian hacker going out of his way to not just protect American senior citizens but also to use his skills to get payback on the scammers. Especially when you hear an 83 year old woman with tears in her eyes thanking him for saving her from the scammers because she was about to go spend $2,000 on Amazon, Best Buy, Target, CVS gift cards. I highly recommend checking out his channel! It’s pretty cool.
  15. Oh yeah I already have that installed because my current build has a 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus, 2TB 860 Evo and a 2TB 860 QVO. I do know for a fact that I didn’t use the 840 Pro for very long and I only had games on it at the time so I don’t think the wear should be too bad at all unless it can degrade from sitting in my garage?
  16. Hey guys, I was going through some of my old computer hardware and I came across this old 128 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD. I read somewhere that the newer Samsung Pro series aren’t really MLC and I’m wondering if this older one is? Does anyone know if this is MLC? If so would it make sense to use this drive in my PC since I have 2 available SATA ports? Thanks!
  17. I actually didn’t really like the Witcher 3 game at all. But I loved AC: Odyssey. It may have deviated from the traditional AC formula but I still feel it’s an amazing game with a great story. Who doesn’t enjoy Spartan kicking bad guys off cliffs to their doom?
  18. Yeah that makes sense. I highly recommend getting it during a Steam sale if you do decide on getting it. Normal price for the Ultimate edition (with all DLC which I recommend since “Fate of Atlantis” was amazing in my opinion) is $119. Which is just insane. But during the Steam sales you can get the Ultimate edition for like $20-$30 and if you don’t want the DLC you can get the base game for like $9.99 or $19.99. I can’t remember exactly which I just know it’s a huge discount.
  19. Odyssey has some rooms that are a maze where you have to move shelves around and stuff. But that’s mostly at the end game and it’s only a few times total so it doesn’t get tiring.
  20. But if you really enjoyed Origins and it’s more of the same isn’t that a good thing? It means it’s more of something you really enjoyed. New story, new characters, new abilities, new everything with the same great formula. I played Origins & Odyssey and I think I like Odyssey better.
  21. You would love Resident Evil 3 remake! That game can be completed in like 5 hours. Same with Resident Evil Village. I can speed run it on Hardcore in under 2 hours even though a first time play through is about 10 hours.
  22. Same here! xD I am a classical history major and I loved that they included actual historical locations and made the buildings & outfits contemporary with the time. Although the concept of money was pretty ridiculous . I collect coins and below is a 4 drachmae silver coin of mine from the same time period. For comparison the average wage of someone living in Ancient Greece in the 5th century BC was about 1 drachma per day. Yet somehow Kassandra is carrying around 200,000 drachmae without even having pockets . That would mean she is carrying 3,436 kilograms of silver on her person or around 7,000 lbs of silver but somehow she can not only carry it around but can also climb cliffs with it. They should’ve kept it contemporary by using obols for rewards & money and keeping the numbers smaller. 1 drachma = 6 obols
  23. Isn’t that a good thing though? It means you’re getting more out of a game you paid for. Unless you think it feels artificially drawn out with repetitive content. In which case I understand that argument. Personally though I got 200 hours out of my first play through and just started New Game +
  24. Granted it’s the first AC game I’ve ever played but I see a lot of negative reviews on Steam about it even though I thought it was a fantastic game and one of my favorite games of all time. I loved the huge open world and all the stuff there was to do. The combat also felt really enjoyable because it required skills such as knowing when to strike, when to parry and when to dodge as well as when to Sparta Kick some stinking barbarian bounty hunter off a cliff. Im curious if anyone agrees with me that it’s a great game?
  25. Didn’t Linus do a video and disprove the “your eyes can only see 60 FPS” belief?
