  1. Isn't the fact that I can't boot from the NVMe directly stop me from doing that?
  2. The SATA SSD in the machine is only 120Gb and is already full. Also, I will be be upgrading the machine this year (changing everything but the case and PSU) and the NVMe will end up being the boot drive eventually.
  3. I bought a 970 evo+ and a PCIe adapter to use on an old dell workstation. I installed the driver and made the partition through the disk manager. I used samsung's data migration software to clone the machine's C drive. It went fine and all the software ran with no issues. But the windows on the boot drive was not recognizing the programs on the new drive, not on the control panel or the apps and features settings. Having to open the executable from deep in the system files or having me create a bunch of shortcuts is as time consuming as uninstalling and reinstalling everything so I didn't do that. Since the machine is old, booting from NVMe isn't supported in the BIOS (I tried, fucked up while messing with the UEFI setting and had to spend 4 hours trying to figure out how to restore windows). Finally, I ask: what is the best way to move all the software to the new drive and clean up the old one?
  4. I contacted INtel and they confirmed it, I guess I got lucky in my life one time.
  5. So, I got a DM on twitter from @IntelTech saying I was a potential winner of the LTX Gold Sample giveaway on Dec 16 last year. I filled the form and today I got an email from customercare@helloworldfulfillment.com announcing that I am won "a Gold Box in the Intel / Linus Tech CPU Giveaway" . Then they proceed to tell me I have to fill out a "Declaration of Compliance" and that I have two days to do so or they'll pick another winner. The form asks for a bunch of info, but most importantly, asks for my SSN. I was pretty excited to see that I had won the damn thing until I saw that it asked for my social security number. I don't want any mf stealing my identity and doing some whatever shenanigans. This Helloworld company's website seems almost too legit compared to other scam websites I've seen. Their website helloworld.com, has Merkle on the header and is also name the first phrase every programming professor has their students write. All these unfamiliar things make me very nervous and I don't trust this one bit. I wanted to know if you guys have any thoughts on this, maybe someone else that has won a giveaway before can give me some reassurance or confirm my suspicion. .
  6. Thanks for the info, but I'm concerned that the 2080 will be somewhat lacking for my CAD uses. What's your take on that?
  7. Hello, Sinus Lebastians of this forum I come asking for some suggestions, advice, or any help you'd be willing to give. I have never built a system before, so please be gentle with me I will follow the recommendations given at the top of the New Builds and Planning thread and try to keep them in the topics. If there is any info that would be helpful to know and is not listed, please don't hesitate to ask. 1. Budget & Location My budget is fairly flexible, since I have been thinking about financing most of the parts, but I would say I be as efficient with my money as possible. The minimum I'd be willing to spend would be like ~1500U$ and the upper limit would be ~3500U$. That said, I'm really interested in cost to performance, so I'd be willing to go above the range for something more worthy of my money. 2. Aim The uses listed in de crescent order by frequency: MS Office/browsing, Gaming (Outer Worlds, Civ VI, Minecraft, Arma III, R6 siege, For honor), Solid Works (rarely other CAD softwares), coding and running a Linux VM, and Photoshop. 3. Monitors My intention is in running a 144hz 1440p monitor and I have a spare 60hz 1080p BenQ laying around that I would want to use. 4. Peripherals I plan on using Windows. Now, ever since the video Anthony did on gaming on a Linux I've been interested in trying it out, would you guys recommend it? I already have a mouse and a mouse pad, but seriously need a good mechanical keyboard.
  8. Hello all, I am a first time pc builder and am in need of some help. I want to build a personal machine that is a good compromise between work productivity and gaming performance. My mainly used softwares would be SolidWorks, some MatLab and coding in C, small amounts of Photoshop, and maybe running a linux VM. For games, I play almost all genres, but some key games I play would be Civ VI, CoD MW (2019), For Honor, and RDR II. My intended res would be 1440p at 144hz. My original idea was to run a RX 5700 XT and a R9 3900X with 32gb ram and a couple nvme drives, but I think I would have budget for a better graphics card but I couldn't get good info on a better GPU that could do both aspects of my use as well balanced as my former choice. Do you guys have any ideas or recommendations?
