  1. If it's a clean install then the only thing his terminal would spit out is `apt: command not found` if you try to use `apt`. So if Linus' terminal spit out anything else then I'm not sure what he did. I think Linus himself put it best - he knew just enough to be dangerous to himself.
  2. I pretty much agree with eveything you guys went over in this video, except for one thing. Come on, you can't blame Manjaro for not letting you use `apt` and/or not telling you about `pacman`. For one there IS a GUI (pamac) - I believe when you first install Manjaro there is a link on the welcome page directly to it; you can always search "software" or "install" any time you want in the launcher; and if that fails you (which it won't), a simple Google "how to install applications on Manjaro" will do. Finally the notion that "apt is the industry standard" is simply false. It's the standard for Debian and its derivatives, which granted, has 70% market share but is FAR from universal. It's akin to a Windows user first using a Mac, and going "Uh where is Edge? Isn't that the industry standard? And how am I supposed to know I should be using Safari?" Like... no your assumption was simply factually incorrect I'm sorry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But again apart from that I could very much resonate with everything you said. Linux software for desktop are buggy and lack feature in general, mostly because the OS' low market share on the desktop. It's pretty much a miracle that it works as well as it does.
  3. Oh, and sorry for not addressing this. Thanks to you and the rest of the moderation team for taking my request seriously. I understand that as far as this forum is concerned I am really nobody, so I greatly appreciate it.
  4. Fair enough. I do understand that it's really difficult to keep conversations civil if you allow some topics, and politics is certainly one of them. My main concern is that technology is increasingly becoming intertwined with politics in this heavily divided world we live in, so I'm afraid that situations like this will only happen more frequently in the future. Ultimately it's LMG's forum, so of course you are free to write your rules. I would however suggest offering an alternative location for discussion in Community Standards though, if you guys insist on keeping the ban. For example, putting the Reddit link in that post. If you're asking for qualifications, then obviously I'm happy to provide that. Else why would anyone believe me? Unfortunately I do not have one of the degrees you listed. But why is it relevant? I can post tech news if I know a leaker, even if I don't have a computer science degree (which funnily enough, this one I do have). Same here - I don't think I need a politics degree to post some facts that touch politics (of course, assuming the rules allow it). Whether people believe me is down to the credibility of my sources and other qualifications, but that's their choice to make. Ultimately I'm not trying to claim that "[my] commentary might have some more legit non-bias than how average person looks at things". It's just facts and my opinion. Evereone is free to fact-check the facts I claim, of course; as of personal opinion I've said that I'm willing to completely forgo it if necessary.
  5. I mean, there are always other places to go to if all I want is to voice some political opinion. It's just that since one of the primary functions of this forum is to host discussions on LMG's videos and streams, I think it would be inappropriate if there's content on LMG's channels that we are not allowed to talk about here.
  6. He's a busy man and even if he's not there's no obligation from him to respond to anything I say. I meant to say that I would like the discussion to take place in a public forum (in the general sense of the word). Whether Linus wants to say anything (or for that matter, read it at all) is of course, completely his own choice. I can understand that. I do not intend to debate anyone, rather just provide some insights. Heck, I can even omit my opinion entirely and just provide facts (although admittedly, what does "fact" mean anymore these days). But still it would be political in nature and thus violate the Community Standards.
  7. I'm sure if I tried hard enough I will eventually be able to reach him. I am looking for a public discussion though. It's kind of too long for a comment. It would be nice if I can post images and tables and have nice formatting.
  8. In this WAN show, Linus talked about GoG pulling Devotion from its store due to pressure from the CCP. There he raised some questions to which I might be able to provide some valuable knowledge. I believe it would be helpful not only for Linus, but also for others who might be interested in this topic. However due to this discussion being political in nature, it goes directly against LTT Forum's Community Standards. Therefore I do not want to post without asking for permission. Is there a place, either on this forum or some other LTT-associated platform where I can do so?
  9. Yeah you're right. I decided to yolo it and the metal case was indeed just a decorative case. I guess I'll just buy a new cable.
  10. Hmm I haven't thought of that possibility. I'll leave it for last resort though since it's irreversible.
  11. I would agree with you if that's actually the case. But the reason I suspected that opening it might be possible was that the connector assembly is actually metal, and it looks like it's made up of two pieces - a body and a cap. Maybe this camera angle shows that better: Now again, I'm not sure what kind of assembly mechanism they used during manufacturing. If there's some kind of deforming crimp inside then it'll be pretty difficult. But that's why I'm asking.
  12. I am not really an audiophile, but a friend gifted this pair of XBA-A3 to me a few years ago and I've been using it ever since. But recently, I believe I accidentally yanked on the cable somehow, and a wire came loose with the 3.5mm jack within the connector housing. The right channel is fine, but I can only get left channel audio when I place the circled rubber bit just right. This makes the cable mostly unusable. Obviously there are plenty of 3rd party cables out there, and they're not too expensive either. However I am somewhat of a tinkerer, and would like to attempt a DIY repair on this connector if possible. Does anyone has experience with opening up this connector, or know someone who does? Much thanks.
  13. Turns out you are correct. I checked with their network admin, and it seems like the X10 does not support VLAN tagging on its SFP+ port unfortunately, not to mention subinterfaces. I won't be messing with third party firmware - that seems dangerously stupid for an office deployment. I will be sticking to the original plan for now then.
  14. Not sure which exact brand or model I'm going to go with just yet, but it will certainly be a managed switch with VLAN splitting&tagging support. Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd much rather live with an extra cable than an extra router.
  15. I will put down an extra ethernet cable from the router to the cabinet just to be safe though. The tube's well wide enough to fit a couple of cables.
