That's definitely it, I think I even remember when it happened even though it was two years ago. Thank you so much, you're the man.

Symbol just means it's only on one side of the comparison.

What's the name of the file? It's probably going to be "desktop.ini", used for storing folder configuration info for Windows.

Windows will create a hidden "Thumbs.db" file if you view it with larger icons (it caches the thumbnail icons that explorer creates) in certain cases (this can be turned off though the registry or Local Group Policy Editor if you're really annoyed by it, like I am). Turn on hidden files and see if it's hiding in the original directory.

Otherwise, compare directories using WinMerge (which does a very good job of sussing out Windows system files and showing the exact differences).

You don't add letters, you concatenate them, so use the CONCAT(text1, [text2],…) function.

Yes. I put mine to Zero RPM every now and then when cleaning/dusting.

Correct, CSV is Comma Separated Values. Effectively plain text, that can import easily into anything that can read Commas as a delinator.

    100% CSV.
Excel can open it, notepad can open it, literally anything. CSVs are also great if you want to import it some where later.

I think 8^8 and 8^10 give the good result also (the same)
and 8^12 would be 68 billion. Maybe easier to calculate.

the starting 8 is the 2^3 - number of color variations (maybe?)

AshesAndWool reacted to minibois in Can someone explain bits per component?
A monitor has pixels. Every monitor has three sub-pixels (red, green and blue). A sub-pixel has a bit value (8 bit, 10 bit or 12 bit nowadays, I'll only be covered 8&12). A bit is a 1 or 0 (on or off).

    8 bits = 256 values per color ^ 3 = 16.8 million different colors
    10 bits = 1024 values per color ^ 3 = 1.07 billion different colors

8 bits * 3 = 24 bit, which is where this comes from:
    1 byte = 8 bits.

Your book just doesn't account for 10 bits, 8 bit + FRC or 12 bit.

If i understand your question correctly, then no.
Some file formats are containers, some are not.

For example PNG, PCX, TGA, PPM, PGM, WEBP are all files which can represent images, encoding the content in a specific way. These formats, encode just a single frame, in a specific way.
For audio, AAC, AC3, MP3, FLAC are file formats that can only encode audio in a specific way (mpeg 1 encoding, layer 3 audio  , aac, ac3 audio etc)
In contrast, you can have AVI, MKV, MP4 which are containers, they can store video, audio, subtitles, and each of the parts can be encoded in various ways, and the file format defines how to store that information as well.

AshesAndWool reacted to straight_stewie in Is OOXML or ODF more futureproof?
ODF really just boils down to an XML schema that defines a format useful for "office" application backends.

That's a funny way of saying that ODF is XML.

AshesAndWool reacted to mariushm in Is OOXML or ODF more futureproof?
XML is a generic format, that can store data.

Microsoft's document format is XML based, basically a bunch of xml files in a zip file.
ODF is open document format, is a bunch of XML files in a zip file.

in theory, ODF is easier to implement and is a much cleaner/clearer standard, the Microsoft file format is much more cumbersome to implement and a lot of features are poorly documented or not documented at all, and there's stuff like including binary data (series of bytes) produced by various plugins or filters of modules of previous versions of Office (and these binary data chunks are not documented .. the standard says stuff like read the bytes from document, load the plug/module , send the bytes to it ... good luck for other office programs to support that feature or that stuff saved in a document)

You could do all that while still having "some" case fans that only turn on when the system is under load - because I kinda doubt those passive cooling solutions will be able to cope with the heat while under heavy load - you can still try it out of course, just saying just like GPU fans, case fans don't have to run all the time... 2 of my case fans are completely off while idling for example and my PC stays cool - and relatively quiet.

AshesAndWool reacted to jaslion in Do modern blower gpus have 0 rpm mode?
What you want to do then is get an open bench case and then you have nothing to worry about anymore. Then use an open air card. Blower cards for this usecase are just about the worst thing you could pick. You would also want to install at least 1 fan pointing at the motherboard/cpu heatsink that only turns on at very high temps just in case. You could also put the pc in another room and run cables.

AshesAndWool reacted to jaslion in Do modern blower gpus have 0 rpm mode?
Why get a blower card when you want silence? They aren't made for that. Also why are you putting a 1660 vs a 2080? That 1660 is not a blower style card. The reason they do not have a 0 rpm mode is because their coolers do not have any natural convection of air. Unlike open cards where air can freely rise up blowers are closed off cards so they can focus all their airflow through 1 tunnel.

AshesAndWool reacted to Stahlmann in Do modern blower gpus have 0 rpm mode?
You can change the BIOS, but no one can guarantee if it still works then and you won't be able to RMA it when it goes wrong. Normally you don't buy a blower card if you care about noise. Afaik no blower card has a 0 dB mode.

AshesAndWool reacted to Mark Kaine in Make gpu turn off when not in use?
What he said,  your GPU isn't going to make the PC any louder while idling,  just leave the fancurve at default, it will turn off automatically.

AshesAndWool reacted to Mateyyy in Make gpu turn off when not in use?
Modern GPUs turn their fans off at idle anyway.
Just get some proper quality fans and run them at very low speeds. Additionally you could go for a silence optimised case, like a Fractal Define, for example.
