  1. TL:DR I turned off my pc by cutting power from the power strip instead of turning it off and now there’s no display but the pc turns on and the fans ramp up to 100% Because I think I know the answer but with no actual PC knowledge I need confirmation, so I’ll cut to the chase- My PC was plugged into a power strip (I have now learned that’s a big no) and was sitting idle. My GF went to plug something into the power strip and accidentally turned of the power switch to the strip. My PC shut off (obviously) along with everything else plugged into it. I didn’t think anything of it until I went to turn on my PC which has been working excellently for the last 6 months didn’t turn on. Sort of. It turns on, hums quietly as usual, but no display. My monitor doesn’t detect anything coming from the PC (I tested the monitor it works fine) but it’s on. What’s weird is now about 15 seconds after I turn on the PC the CPU cooler and fans (including the GPU) ramp up to 100% speed and it sounds like an air tunnel in my room. I have a feeling I may have shorted the power supply and this is just the aftermath of the murder of my pc, but I’m not really qualified to decide things like this. Is there a fix or troubleshoot process? Or should I just bury this boy out back and call it a day? Some specs: Dell Optiplex i5-3470 12gb ddr3 ram Gtx 660 2gb DDR5 500gb slim HDD Side note: This bad boy really did work amazingly for the 6 months I had it. It performed great for what I needed and I have literally had to troubleshoot it 0 times until this happened which is why I’m pretty sure it’s the turning off while it was powered on that caused this. Thank you to anyone that has any advice -Señor Oof
