  1. Hello linustechtips community, I am currently planning on building a new PC for myself. Budget: open-end Location: Germany Aim: -Media Storage (preferably with redundancy even though I have no clue how to do that) -Media Center (hosting Plex with a maximum of two 1080p streams) -Compiling software -24/7 uptime -Minor gaming (nothing very demanding games like League of Legends, World of Warcraft and Minecraft, the usually casual games) in 1080p -Maybe VR in the future(not sure, addressed at the end) Monitors: 1x 1080p 144Hz 1x 1080p 60Hz (Already have those) Peripherals: Already have everything I need. Why are you upgrading?: -I don't have enough storage and not enough space inside my current case to add more -Running a Plex Server -Reduce noise, my current CPU cooler is too load -Reduce compile time -Finally upgrade to DDR4 RAM(no real reason just want to) So, that's a lot I suppose. I will mainly use the Computer for watching and storing media and casual gaming, no AAA titles. I want it to be as quiet as possible since I plan on letting it run 24/7. I already compiled a little list with potential components on PCPartPicker: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor €369.00 @ Amazon Deutschland CPU Cooler be quiet! Now to the juicy part: The case has been the my main focus so far, right now the Dark Base 900 looks like a very nice options since it is huge with lots of 3.5" slots and also has features that apparently reduce noise the system might make. I would love to see case suggestions that are big with a lot of storage potential but also lots of options for 140mm or bigger fans to reduce noise overall. I am also very unsure about my CPU choice since AMD seems to have a run right now and Intel seems to have a lot of security issues, even though I don't care THAT much about these vulnerabilities but it would still be nice to not have them... Should I go for higher RAM frequency? I am not too familiar with the performance to price benefit. Last point would probably be the choice of GPU and here I have several points I like to address: -I'd prefer to not upgrade unless needed, that's why I didn't include any in my PCPartPicker List -I plan on using Plex with hardware acceleration to hopefully reduce CPU load and heat which right now is the main cause for noise in my current (old) rig I hope I didn't miss anything and that I've been understandable, sorry if anything is unclear or confusing. I'll try to clarify if I goofed somewhere
