h4lf_gr33k reacted to NewMaxx in Is inflated/fake TBW a real thing?
TBW is arbitrary and largely meaningless. Current TLC is rated for around 3,000 cycles, although there is variance from 700 (media grade) to 5,000 (best RG) or 10,000 (industrial/commercial grade). SLC mode will be 60,000 to 100,000 for consumer, 250,000 or more in some cases. QLC is at around 1,500. TBW will usually hit a mark far below these values, but it's also within the warranty period (which is more important). TBW also is supposed to refer to NAND writes rather than host so accounts for write amplification, and WA can vary based on many factors.

"The obvious question then is, if LDPC is so great, why wouldn't you use it as standard?"

You answered this yourself right after: it's more computationally expensive to use soft decoding. Soft decoding can require more power, needs more die space for the ECC engine, needs more NAND space for spare corrective code, and can be less efficient (uses more power, produces more heat). Also, it does increase latency (if you are hitting enough decoding steps). Luckily, it's usually not needed in the early lifetime of drives, in fact I would expect more consumer drives don't see enough wear for this to matter much.

As a side note on MLC: some 3D TLC has better endurance than some 2D MLC. Small process MLC with BCH was actually worse than Samsung's initial V-NAND TLC generations. Samsung's last 2D MLC was around 10,000 cycles while their early V-NAND was 20,000 to 30,000 for 3-bit MLC (TLC). 3D NAND is in a much larger effective node with a structure that reduces cell-to-cell interference, and can carry far more charge, so comparing most consumer MLC to TLC is not useful. The exception is Samsung's 3D MLC (which they no longer make). Micron's first-gen 3D MLC was just their TLC in MLC mode, which is not the same as native.

It did. The fact it shows up on the screenshots at all means we can rule out the monitor as the cause and possibly the video cable.
Is that black bar only there while in Windows? (you did reboot, correct?)
Or is it also seen while in the BIOS ?
Have you reinstalled your GPU drivers?
Can you try simply creating a new User account on your PC, log out of your current one and log in to the new one to see if the bar is there?

As for why you have no answers to these posts..... It's because no one so far has an answer to give.

h4lf_gr33k reacted to mariushm in Wall adapter amperage value?
The amperage is the maximum current the adapter can give to a device.
The device takes as much current as it needs, could be half an amp, could be 1A , could be 2A - in the case of a monitor, it will depend mostly on the brightness setting you have, because 90% of the energy consumed is in the LEDS that light up the panel.

So you can use an adapter rated for higher current, and probably also an adapter rated for slightly less current, especially if you don't run the monitor at 100% brightness.

You should open that adapter and replace the bad capacitors on the output and most likely you'll get at least another year from the adapter.
If you open it up and take some pictures of the insides post them here and me or others could point out what you may need to replace to fix the adapter.

Seems like the plastic is ultrasonic welded so you'd have to break the weld by squeezing the sides or around the point where the halfs are joined together. You can put it back together with some electrical tape or some super glue once you've fixed it.

If you can replace the chips, yes, it would work. They're exactly the same except one is 1C/2T (D425) and one is 2C/4T (D525).
    However:
Do you a BGA rework station to reattach (and maybe remove) the CPU? A heat gun can remove it, but it won't reattach it correctly.

If you have the necessary equipment for soldering, you might still run into issues with the BIOS that may or may not support/blacklist that CPU. If the same board is available with that CPU, chances are good it is supported.

The goal of Linux is to offer everyone a different OS tailored to suit their needs, instead of there being a single OS that you have to adapt to with Windows or Mac. You articulated the point pretty well without actually understanding it.

The point is that its license free, anybody can use it for their needs without having to worry about licenses. If it doesn't fit their needs then they're free to modify it to suit.

I've tried to use Linux as a daily driver many times and I swear by god I go crazy.
CentOS, Fedora, Arch Linux, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian and other ones.

The main problem is that all programms are maintained by random people, if they decide "Eh... It's boring, I will do something else." then the programm dies, slowly and do they get paid for doing free software? I don't think so.

"It's easy to install, just apt install garbage" yeah, but they never say that you need to know which repos to add, but you can use snapd, and snapd doesn't add the icons to your menu, so you need a syslink, or you use flatpak, but flatpak doesn't have everything.
Best part, if you have Nvidia don't even try to use Linux, Fedora <deep breath>, debian is usabe same as the other debian garbage like ubuntu and the other crap.

I mean seriously, eveyone is doing a distro, it's damn worse than javascript libraries,  wtf is this?
    https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Linux_Distribution_Timeline.svg

Why not just everyone working on one thing? If the change is very big, create a new thing, like how many damn package managers are there? pacman, apt, dnf, yum?

If the distro is good, getting something working is a nightmare... if the distro is garbage (ubuntu) everything works, bloated with garbage like windows but it works, nice.

If you wonder, yes I feel better now.

Garbage. Now everyone will just have token "diverse" people to tick off on the checklist just to comply. Yeah, racism and diversity problems solved. Congrats. Why haven't we thought of this 50 years ago... So much diversity, so progressive!

Also the bullshit idea that everything has to be represented with 50/50 just needs to die already. Unless they'll also demand 50% representation of women in garbage collection, construction, sewer maintenance, remote oil rigs, fishing, deep earth mining etc, you know, all the nasty disgusting soul and body crushing jobs almost exclusively occupied by men. Of course they won't. They'll demand fancy leading positions with office and AC. Been there, seen that. 5-6 years ago or so. And they are still pushing this drivel. *Sigh*
