  1. Hello,

I have Windows 10 64-bit with current update. I have noticed that some system settings that I have modified and some changes that I have done to Windows registry return to their original state after Windows updates.

It gets tedious to apply changes that have been done previously after Windows updates.

Is there some kind of script that could automate or ease this task?

Those skates is pretty much still usable, just don't expect a flawless performance out of them like they are new or something.

Should be fine for just office use.

Maybe I should just discard them? What difference would skates make? Even new skates. Frankly I don't notice the difference from mice that were manufactured without skates.

  3. Hello,

I have 2 Veracrypt Recovery Images from laptop and PC that I want to keep on external storage and use in the case of emergency.

I don't want to make bootable CD/DVD for each because I don't have the required devices but want the convenience of USB flash drive.

I know there are programs like Ventoy and WinToUSB that allow you to have multiple bootable images on one external storage and choose which one to boot from.

Is this possible with Veracrypt Recovery Images?

I also want to use WinRar to password-protect these 2 files and store them online in the cloud.

  4. Hi,

I had to remove skates and now left with curled ones as well as remainder of glue.

Can these skates be straightened back and still useable or I need to order new ones? Either way I will need to get double-sided scotch tape regardless.

Also how do I remove that glue? Will I feel any difference considering I use that mouse in office environment?

    Thanks

  5. Should I take advantage of 5-year license for Acronis True Image for Western Digital? Does it only work with WD products?

Website says "This software is available only under a limited time offer and must be redeemed by download and install within 90 days of purchase or by December 31, 2023, whichever is earlier."

  6. Hello,

I learned that Samsung Magician software offers to modify default provisioning of 6.7% on its drives.

I have Western Digital 1TB NVME SSD that I will be using for storage and video games.

What overprovisioning percentage does it have by default? If software does not allow its modification

I heard that I can shrink capacity and leave more unused space for provisioning.

I was surprised to know that leaving unused space is not all and I need to leave it under partition. Here's

the information that I read and I wonder if it is true. I would not want to have 2nd partition:

"If your Crucial SSD is in the support list, now go to Disk Management and see if there is such partition available.

If not, you can shrink the partition on your SSD and then create a partition for OP. You can shrink the partition and

create a new partition using Disk Management. But there is a chance that the Windows tool can't shrink volume.

In this case, you can try other partition managers for Windows 10 like MiniTool Partition Wizard."

That being said, even if you monitor them, or any drive for that matter (even a traditional HD), they can fail without warning. So backups are always important.

Is it only media wearout that S.M.A.R.T. can predict? No components acting unusual? Maybe power delivery issues? Other things that can collectively provide information that you can make informed decision on? I am more concerned about malfunctioning and component failure than media wearout.

  8. Hi. I currently have Samsung NVME EVO 970 Plus with OS and just installed recently purchased

WD NVME SN570 drive. I did not have Samsung Magician installed as well but I want to for drive's

    health monitoring.

On its home page Samsung mentions that software works with drives of other manufacturers

but some features will not be available. On downloads page it mentions that Samsung Magician

does not work with other drives.

I know that there is Western Digital Dashboard Monitor for monitoring WD drives but my Samsung

main drive is more important for monitoring. Should I pass up on monitoring WD drive? Is it a bad idea

to have both monitoring software installed and working in real-time?

    Thanks

  9. Hi. I have WD 1TB external hard drive that is supposed to be connected only with 1 cable to USB port.

It worked this early this year in front panel USB 3.0 ports but now it does not. It is powered on but drive letter does not appear.

It works however with 6 ports on rear panel.

I tested both front panel USB 3.0 ports with USB thumbdrive and it works.

I had motherboard replaced before that so I wonder what could it be that changed and my hard drive refuses to work in them.

600W would be slight overkill, but not massively so. A better question would be: Which power supplies are you looking at?

Corsair only. RMx or RM line. Is RMx okay? I read it has Japanese capacitors, better fan with zero-RPM feature. I prefer fully-modular. Not sure about SF, CV, CX lines and if they are fully-modular.

  11. Hi,

I thought 600W 80+Gold is the one I need but is it overkill for YouTube, internet, Paint.NET or GIMP graphic programs and occasional gaming sessions lasting 4 hours?

Here's the specifications of computer I need to know the wattage for:

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
MB: Gigabyte Aorus Elite B450 rev 1.0
RAM: 2x8GB 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX
Video Card: EVGA GeForce RTX 2060
    HDD: Western Digital 2TB 5200RPM
SSD: 250GB Samsung 970 EVO Plus

Chassis: CoolerMaster MasterBox MB511 (1 rear and 3 front 120mm fans)

    Thanks

  12. Hello. I have Windows 10 64-bit version 21H1. While processing cumulative update it requires restart. Why does it require restart while it is still busy with update?

    20220728_164053.thumb.jpg.a6fb9f7db2cea312f42b6ae8a809bfb0.jpg

It was at 74% before showing download error. Right now I still see Windows Modules Installer Worker background process working sporadically. It was before as well when cumulative update was processing. Service Host Windows Update, MoUSO Core Worker, Runtime Broker processes also work in the background sometimes.

    20220728_165018.thumb.jpg.fdfd4b7846b584ae1d1ec0b44a5295e3.jpg

In previous Windows editions updates used to be applied before system would require to restart computer. Why Windows 10 requires a restart while there are still updates processing?

Which brand / model? Replacement new or refurbished?

I don't really know. They just told me replacement. I received it in original box that I used to ship it to distributor. There was nothing else in the box except motherboard. The serial number on the box and on the motherboard are different now. So It is likely not new then? I have edited and added specifications.

  14. Hello. I had problems with motherboard and received replacement from distributor. I don't remember having Bitlocker and fTPM enabled. My SSD OS drive was encrypted by VeraCrypt which doesn't store encryption key in fTPM if I am correct.

After powering on the system this is the error that pops up. The image is not mine but the error is the same.

While I was looking for solution on the internet the PC turned off by itself. I read that people had this message pop up out of nowhere despite making no changes to their PC's hardware. It never happened in my case though. What if the replacement I received was previously tested and they turned on fTPM for motherboard to work in Windows 11? They also tested with different CPU most likely.

I don't know if they updated the firmware to the latest but if they did what if fTPM was turned on by default? I read that fTPM protects software and hardware from unauthorized access. I thought about entering BIOS and disabling fTPM but what if it will deny me access and brick my hardware? Could motherboard lock to CPU they tested with? What should I do?

    Thanks.

    Specifications:

    AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
Gigabyte Aorus Elite B450 rev 1.0
    2x8GB 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX
    EVGA GeForce RTX 2060

    Corsair TX650M

  15. @jaslion I have a paintbrush. I need to remove front mesh and probably side meshes too. I think they can be removed. The bottom clips can be pushed out of their places but another 4 hooks on each side don't move easily:

    20211205_181944.thumb.jpg.478689910f5e736200ffafd8c5cbfdcb.jpg

I used to clean front mesh with baby wipes until it started oxidizing. Manufacturer could have mentioned proper cleaning in chassis manual but didn't so I had to learn my lesson. I am looking for information on how to restore mesh, wondering if black glossy/matte paint spray will do the job:

  16. Hi,

I am using CoolerMaster MB511RGB chassis. I just wanted to clean front panel of PC case with vacuum cleaner after almost 2 years of purchase. Removed front panel and saw 3 fans, with one on the bottom not using philips screws like the other two:

    fotor_1638718578674.thumb.jpg.7a6e426793b55ef426fdd30b19c58685.jpg

Dough! I don't think I can remove that fan without breaking rivets and I don't think I know where to get same 4 screws that mid and top fans have:

Should I just leave fans in place and use damp cloth and q-tips for the job?

  17. Hello,

I need a budget, non-rechargeable, preferably ergonomic mouse for office work and one with broad compatibility so I can connect it to tablet and/or smart TV and easily move between devices or take it on the go somewhere.

Does mouse with radio frequency 2.5GHz and mouse with Bluetooth connection make difference for above purposes besides needing USB port for RF mouse and not needing for Bluetooth mouse?

Any "palm-grip" mouse you can recommend from known brand and a mouse from least known brand? Doesn't have to be "palm grip" because "finger-grip" is good too. I even thought about buying from chinese website but their longevity sucks.

    Thanks
