  1. Looks like these kind of things: https://bit.ly/3KQB7Cs https://bit.ly/35vxGkD They're coming up for the search term "stat screen". I see you can also do something similar with an Android phone. https://www.techradar.com/news/an-old-android-phone-can-be-used-as-a-system-monitor-to-show-how-hard-your-gaming-pc-is-working
  2. Thanks! Temps aren't actually terrible now. In my Apex Legends testing yesterday, I had a GPU temp of 75 degrees, a host spot temp of 99 degrees, and a memory temp of 74 degrees. The 3 fans on the card were spinning at about 2,200 rpm at the time, which wasn't what I'd call quiet though. Just wanted to see if undervolting would get me any improvement with temps and noise, without losing too much performance. How many mV would you recommend starting with for each decrease? And which program would you use to do it? I've never done this before. Awesome, thanks! I've used Afterburner and RTSS before, so I'd prefer that. And I've read complaints of Wattman not implementing things properly at certain releases. Like custom fan curves. And changing things on update. I want to be able to trust whatever I use. Would you recommend decreasing my 10 mV each time until it becomes unstable in a game? Wish there were some good guides online for this, for my card.
  3. Hey all! I have an XFX 5700 XT Thicc III Ultra, and have read a number of threads about people's experiences with undervolting. The general sense I have is that doing so won't really impact performance much, but could significantly improve my fan noise and temperatures. Is this true? Should I use Afterburner to undervolt my card? And if so, by how much? :)
  4. Awesome! Which monitor do you have? Dell S2417DG? And how far away from it do you sit?
  5. Good to hear! And the sites still look fine (normal) after zooming? Yeah, that's the trouble. Some of this is subjective. So, if my choice was between a 27" 1440p or a 24/25" 1080p, you'd recommend the smaller one? Since, 1440p at 27" might make the text quite small, and bring in a need for scaling. Cool. Do you know how far away you usually sit when reading?
  6. 144hz. I already have my eye on the specific monitor (Dell S2719DGF), but I'm just wondering it the increase in resolution at 27" will mean I will need to use Windows text scaling to increase the size of the text. Because text gets smaller as the resolution goes up. Cool. I've seen lots of threads online with people saying they use around 120% scaling for 1440p 27". Perhaps they just have bad eyesight? My other option is getting a 1080p 25" high refresh rate. That should increase the PPI a bit from what I'm used to at least.
  7. Hi all! I'm thinking about getting a 27" 1440p monitor (moving up from same size at 1080p). Sitting about 60cm (2ft) away. At that higher resolution, do you think I will need to enable Windows text scaling to increase the font sizes? And if so, will it be a good experience in 2019, or is it still blurry?
  8. You make a good point. And I didn't actually know that tweaking the settings like that could be the answer. Hence why I said textures - clearly I have a bit to learn in terms of which to cut back to get the right balance. Do you think that Dell S2719DGF will be decent? I've read a bunch of reviews, and the only downside is "bad" gray uniformity/some bleed. But I don't set my monitor brightness very high, so perhaps it'll be fine. Seems like a good monitor otherwise. And it's affordable.
  9. Thanks for that! Very interesting. So, are you saying that possibly the higher res (1440p) would negate/compensate for a loss of quality if the settings were lowered? As in, I could run Apex but turn it to a lower texture setting to get higher FPS, but still actually perceive it to look the same?
  10. That's true. Would it still look alright, or could there be some strange scaling issues?
  11. That's my concern, yeah. Most of the threads I've read still tell people to get 1440p, for reasons like noticing sharper text, or productivity. I'm not sure if those benefits will be useful to me. Not even sure if I'd notice the sharper text at a distance of 80cm/2.6ft away. What do you think? Here is a list of benchmark results I took from a few YouTube videos that did comparisons between the two resolutions using my exact system. What worries me is Odyssey and Division 2 on 1440p only getting 60 FPS. Some others around 80. That means AAA games launching as soon as next year could dip well below that. Also, Apex (my main game) at 1440p only gets 121 FPS. Yes, it's double my current, but what about a hypothetical Apex V2 that comes out next year? Or Overwatch 3? At 1080p, I would be extending the lifespan of my current GPU with matching frames to that 144/155hz refresh rate. Would you agree?
  12. Fair point. And that wouldn't be blurry? Thanks! And you think the decrease in FPS at 1440p is worth it, compared to being able to get closer to matching that 144hz/155hz in FPS if I got the 1080p? Not only for present day games, but also ones in a year or two.
  13. Thanks. I haven't noticed any at that distance on my current one, but perhaps it'd be a matter of only noticing the difference once I've tried the higher res. Do you think I'd have any problems with legibility, considering the text size will decrease if the res goes higher?
  14. Hi all! I'm going to be getting a new monitor, to upgrade from the 27" 1080p 60hz Samsung I have now. I'm trying to decide between the following: Asus VG278Q 27" 1080p 144hz TN Dell S2719DGF 27" 1440p 155hz TN I am aware of the shortcomings of TN, but I don't mind, considering my use case. This is more about the resolution. I sit 80 centimeters (2.6 ft) away from my monitor. I play mainly Apex, so would like to benefit from the high refresh rate as much as possible. I do also play offline RPGs sometimes. Otherwise, just regular web browsing and video watching. This will be running on a system with a Ryzen 5 3600 and a 5700 XT. At that distance, which monitor (resolution) do you think I should go for?
