    That page doesn't affect refresh rate/resolution. It's a preview of how the image will be affected by scaling. You set the refresh rate of the monitor from the "Change Resolution" section.

    thats what ive read online too but that doesnt explain any of the issues im having such as why the process disappears completely but re-emerges  when the laptop is idle.

    Probably. Unfortunately (for you) i don't do car audio, which is the only use case where decoupling might not be a bad idea, but there are plenty around here who do.

    Your speaker has a coil that is in somway connected to you volume dial. You 'dialed value' probably gets set up as resistance of a circuit ... this is physics only now. Induction happens in your coil moving over a magnet and that induces current which is restricted by what you st on your dial therefore tunring the dial way down increases resistance and prevents the membrane from moving more than it does already I hope I am not to confusing.
