I just didn't think I'd have to explain more when all I asked was a how cheap to go for a threadripper.

if you're desperate to cool the threadripper CPU, this is about the lowest cost you can get away with

it's not a matter of cheap coolers, but that companies didn't bother to make cheap coolers for a platform that accommodates 32 cores
the 2700X is just better, same amount of cores and threads but faster clocks and better architecture. There is no point in a low core count threadripper CPU.

    check these out:
    Ryzen 7 1700
same generation and core count, so just as good.
    Ryzen 7 2700
    generation newer and faster.

both of these CPUs can use much, much cheaper coolers and motherboards, and you can upgrade to much better performance.

even if you don't want more cores moving from a 1900x on an expensive board to a 2700x or a 3700x on a b450/b550 is way better
whats the point of this build?

Whether EVGA has released non K OC support is unclear to me

what is clear is that Intel's dual core silicon quality is way behind the quads, even tho low wattage CPUs tends to be better binned than the bigger wattage ones. I'd say 4.5GHz is a good place to start

i had the 980ti strix back in that time and it was indeed faster than the MSI 1070 Gaming X i bought for a friend...i tested both cards on my 4770K and the 980ti OC was faster than the 1070 OC in just about everything by 10 to 15%...BUT, now i think the 1070 is better in newer games and everything...that 980ti pulls A LOT of power too and shoots heat...my 1080ti is nowhere near as bas as the OC 980ti was. Get the 1070 it'll serve you well.

High power draw and hot running components doesn't last as long too...980ti are getting old at this point so the chances on getting one that works NOW but won't anymore in 2 months...you know, it can happen.

For that reason, i'd do one even better...i'd spend a bit more for the 1070 Ti...this one came out much later in the cycle and therefore would be newer...it's a fair bit more powerful too. This one for sure blow the 980ti out of the water.

1070 is faster than the 980Ti, but 980 has Ti in it's name.  Much cooler.  Even odds.

    Correct.
The Intel 300-series motherboards only support 8th and 9th Gen Intel CPUs.
100 and 200-series boards supports 6th and 7th Gen CPUs.

    100 / 200 / 300-series boards all used the "LGA 1151" socket, but 300-series is actually LGA 1151 "Revision 2".
