It's not as good as the MBP obviously but I have used a T460 and found the trackpad perfectly fine. It's Windows precision i believe and has solid tracking as well as lots of tuning options. I never got used to the trackpoint myself but you also have that. But yeah, these days windows trackpads are decent. It's not like in 2010 whereby the difference between Apple and Windows was massive. These days, yeah, the MBPs are nicer, but for the vast majority of people the average Windows trqckpad is also fine. The only exception is the ones using Synaptics drivers. Those are camcerous

They've been dropping the ball recently. Firmware issues and questionable fan profiles for the thermal solutions. They also rebranded the XPS models as Precision workstation which is an insult to anyone buying a proper workstation and expecting workstation quality and features. That's why the precision users all went over to HP ZBooks and ThinkPad P series. Can't say I recommend Dells business models unless they're significantly cheaper. ThinkPads and EliteBooks are currently much better.

    Both are excellent hex cores.

Feel free to finite Reddit. Most people don't even know how to accurately monitor Zen thermals. They likely used a broken tool like HW Monitor which reports 20*C above real temperatures.

Not worth it. Performance wise, you're getting less than a Ryzen 3 4300U with double the heat and power draw.

Like I said, HP Envy x360 or T14. The Asus ZenBook 14 is also a option but not as good as the former two. Don't judge a laptop by the way the chassis feels. The XPs 13 feels nice to touch but its among the worst mobile options

The 400 mitt one. X1 needs to be updated to AMD Renoir. The current i7 is three times slower than a 4700U

    Here's the Envy:https://www.mediaworld.it/product/p-128407/hp-envy-x360-13-ay0008nl

The ThinkPad is by far the best. The T series are high end business-class devices. They offer extreme durability, reliability and silent cooling with excellent battery life. A close second is the Envy x360 but, of course, the Envy is not water-resistant or dirt/sand/shock resistant.

Here's what I mean - ignore the language, all you need to know is in video format

    It certainly does.

Look at the ThinkPad T14(s) with a Ryzen 7 4700U/4750U. If your goal is high performance in an ultrabook, then your choice should be Renoir. NoteBookCheck recently compared the ProBook 455 and 450. The 4700U ran 140% faster than one of the best ULV i7s while also being nearly 20*C cooler. The comparison is on my profile if you're interested.

Currently, business-class models with Zen 2 such as the T14 are extremely good for what you pay.
Alternatively, the HP Envy x360 with a 4700U is also a fantastic option. I'll also add the Asus ZenBook 14, though this one has more aggressive power targets so it's not as fast as other 4700U-laptops (still double the performance of mobile i7s)

Battery life is mediocre and the performance is very poor. 15W cTDP intel CPUs really struggle to maintain more than 2.2Ghz clockspeee. The advertised boost is basically impossible to sustain for longer than 30 seconds

Is the ThinkPad T14 Renoir available?

If not, the Asus ZenBook 14, again with Renoir (4500U or 4700U) is my top pick

Soldered RAM on all models*, no parts, no ability to upgrade parts on your own, glued down battery, shallow key travel on keyboard, lack of a pointing stick. Those, to me, don't make up an excellent trackpad (that I never use anyway because pointing stick), display, and speakers.

*I don't necessarily mind it on the 13" model. I have an X1 Carbon and I considered getting an X13, both of which have soldered RAM. They both have pretty good port selection for something that small, though. My big complaint is soldering the RAM down on the 15" and 16" MacBook Pro. My X1 Extreme did not have soldered RAM.
If you're looking for a 13" and don't mind 16:9, the AMD variant of the ThinkPad X13. The performance on it will crush the XPS 13 and MacBook Pro because of the Renoir CPU. If max performance trumps all other factors, then that or any other laptop with Ryzen 4000, like the HP Envy, is what I'd go with in a 13" laptop. IIRC, ThinkPads have really good Linux support as well.

I also prefer ThinkPad keyboards to all others, though your mileage may vary. The trackpad is merely adequate. (It doesn't matter that much to me since I turn it off in favor of the TrackPoint but for normies who don't care about the nub, might make a difference.) Likewise with the display. There's a touch option but for most people, the non-touch 1080p one is fine. Don't go for the one with the privacy guard because you may as well have a TN display with the viewing angles you get on that.

You can clearly see I've told people to not buy XPS models numerous times on the forum. Check my post history. The issues there are with regard to thermals, insufficient power delivery (the battery actually drains under load), DPC Latency, problematic trackpads and Dell's useless support and QA/QC.

    1. Just get a good PSU
    2. That's $1300 in PSUs alone
    3. You will need 100 equal PCs to use, which is more money and tons of power
    4. Massive fire hazard as I guarantee most will fail spectacularly

If you have a modular PSU, get cables that plug straight into the PSU. Make sure that you get ones specifically compatible with your PSU model.

Unless it's the newest version, Earthwatts Gold Pro and other Seasonic Focus Gold variants suffer from the same issue dealing with power hungry graphics cards (and the "fix" doesnt fix it properly), so the TX650M (assuming it's the grey label one, not the really old orange label one) is the best choice out of the 4
