  1. I've only used Razer and Logitech's in house switches, and the gateron milk blacks in my custom. I went to my friends house, and tried out his corsair keyboard. I had no idea what switches he had. I tried out what I assumed were cherry reds, but they felt a little scratchy. I was certain they were linear though. Nope. They were mx browns. Coming from a blind test, I legitimately thought they were some cheap scratchy linear switch.

    Hi guys,
new to the mechanical keyboards and in the community.
Recently I am looking for good mechanical keyboard mainly for programming since I am finishing first year of Computer Science degree and I am focusing on programming. Currently I have cheap 20$ membrane keyboard and I am typing on laptop so I don't really have much experience on mechanical keyboards. (I have tried Coolemaster masterkeys and HyperX Alloy) My budget is around 200$, 230$ max with all costs. I don't know should I build my keyboard since I live in Europe and don't know many websites for keyboard parts and I can't do soldering and buying extra tools etc. I would like to build it because of the customization and I would like some extra stuff like better cable, inner padding, keycaps, metal case and better stabilizators, but if there is some stock nice looking 60% keyboard with aluminium frame (I would like to go 60% because of the arrow keys integrated on the letters and everything is so close when I get used to it I think.) under 230$ i would considered it buying. There is so much choice and switches idk. I found Ducky Mecha Mini mx Brown very good stock keyboard but not so sure about sound is it silence enough.
    Tnx guys for the help...

I went with this guy right here:

    https://kbdfans.com/collections/65-diy-kit/products/65-low-profile-soldered-mechanical-keyboard-diy-kit

however, it comes with a soldered PCB. You can still spec it individually though, and add a hotswap PCB to cart. I would recommend getting a different stabilizers though. This kit is $125 for the alu case and plate, braided cable, PCB, and cherry stabilizers. The case will run 55 on its own, so if you can find a PCB and plate to fit it you could save some cash if you do not need any of the extras / are getting it separately anyway. KBDFans sells pcbs that fit it, however they all have large wait lists. There are a lot of cheap prebuilt keyboards you can transfer into this case, though.

Another option is to go with a barebones such as a GMMK from glorious. TBH I don't know to much about them though. I've also heard good things about the KBD67 lite and Novelkeys Entry edition, however I have not used any of these personally so I can't speak for them myself, and those are polycarbonate.

Cherry browns are tactile, meaning you would feel a noticeable bump as it actuates. However, there are other switches that will have stronger tactility and less sound. There are also linear switches that have no tactile bump, and are much smoother. These can also be quite quiet, but a lot of them have a really satisfying sound. However if you do not want loud switches, you want to stay away from clickies. These have the tactile feeling, but make a clicky sound when pressed.

A lot of off the shelf prebuilt keyboards will be limited to cherry switches, but a lot of other options are available. gateron yellow switches are an excellent linear, and can be had for relatively cheap. I personaly got my 65% keybaord filled up with Gateron black switches with milky housing for better sound for 17.50 USD. There are many good options for not a lot of cost.

    Hope this helped

Any tips and tricks before I assemble my first custom keyboard? Specs:

    • Cobalt POM Linears (recolor of Durock POMs), I'm going to be lubing them with 205G0 and filming with Deskeys Films
    • Akko Macaw Keycaps
    • KBD67 Lite R1, I'm going to be lubing the Cherry screw-in stabs with 205G0 as well, may holee mod depending on how much rattle there is after lubing.

I have all the parts except the KBD67 Lite, which will be here in 4-7 days.

awesome! I purchased a similar keeb from kbdfans and it was really good! I also went with the cherry stabilizers, and while they were way better than my previous logitech and gaming keyboards, I wish I would have spent the extra cash on some durock stabs. Granted, all I did was lube them. but if you tap from the wrong angle, you hear high pitched rattling sound. Given the fact that they are cherry and pcb mount, I assumed I would be fine. If you can, go with some aftermarket stabs. Honestly I love those keycaps tho!

Just get the parts, new or used(in good condition) and fix it yourself, it's quite easy. And, your chain should not be rusty. ALWAYS oil your chain use oil or chain lube.

Thanks for the advice! I picked up the parts and both dry and wet chain lube and saved a LOT of money. Already installed the new parts

  5. Hey guys,

I use my bike primarily to get from location to location, but I also occasionally go mountain biking. I do not insure my car year round, so for most of the summer I would be using it for transportation. I was using a Schwinn fat tire bike, but it looks as though the rear derailleur needs to be replaced, as it has bent badly into the spokes. The chain also needs to be replaced, as it is way to tight (most likely due to the large amount of rust, and also appears to be the cause of the damaged derailleur). This bike was picked up for 350 CAD on clearance 2 years ago and was my primary method of transportation for the first winter.

    I have two questions.

    1. How much would it cost to repair and would it be worth it?

    2. The repalcement bike I am looking at is here: https://mudsweatandgears.ca/product/2021-norco-xfr-3/. I know little about specs for bikes  and what makes a good option, and my options are limited. For 730 CAD, is this worth it? I have a decent ammount of expendable income, however I am trying to save as much as possible, as I am moving out and starting university in a few months, so I would like to keep the cost down as much as possible. Unfortunately this price range is almost always sold out 😞 I am also heading to the mountains for the weekend, and if possible I would like to have a bike to take with me.

    Thanks yall 🙂

Hi everyone, quick question. What kind of lube do you guys recommend/use for your keyboards? I'd like something that's available on Amazon Canada.

I ran into this problem (from Alberta), I ended up ordering from amazon.com and having it shipped to Canada. I went with g205, it was about $15 USD, but the price was doubled with shipping and import fees. It arrived over a month after the rest of my parts, so I couldn't build it for a while. My grandparents had given me an American amazon gift card (why I chose this route) but the HUGE shipping time and fees and lack of selection sucks. If I were to do this again, I would go through one of the vendors @geo3or @DailyProcrastinatorrecomended.

Edit: my order from KBDFans arrived in about a week from china, even after going through Customs. The lube sat in a warehouse for a month and a half and then shipped in about a week. Shows the level of care you get with a smaller company VS amazon.

I'm waiting on mine from LTT store. But I'm a fan of both; Jayz2Cents makes great videos too!

Definitely! I'm just glad I have a manager who knows his stuff, even the general manager isn't that well informed on a lot of tech stuff. One time he told me he had a broken SSD and he would give it to me for 10 bucks. It was a laptop SSHD. He dropped it in front of me, but told me it was an SSD so it would be ok. You could literally see from looking at it that it wasn't an SSD. After he promised me I could return it, I took him up on his offer. SSD or not, 10 dollars for a terabyte is a steal. I literally had to go to disk manager and initialize it. It took 2 min. Great deal, but hes been there 20 years and should really know what hes talking about. (I also heard him saying quite recently to a customer that intel was just a better amd, a ryzen 5 was equivelant to an i3. This was in the last few months. He also told a customer that the 1660 ti was discontinued. I dont work at some department store with an electronics section either, we are probably the biggest tech seller in our town.

Also having a manager who watches Linus and Jay is just the coolest thing ever

Brought my LTT water bottle to work (I work in tech sales at a large business supply retail store) and one of my managers recognized it 😂 He said he is more of a Jayz2Cents guy but he watches occasionally lol.

Should be arriving soon, though I don't really know how to tell anyway. But I chose the "red" switches.

Nice. Yeah id assume otemu but thats just a guess. Even with the brand, there is so much variety. Ive got Gateron Milky black, but gateron makes milky top black, black inks v1 and v2, and regular blacks as well. But you should be able to  see the brand under the keycap next to the stem. But yeah, linear switches are really good

I like the aesthetics of that one - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32954718104.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dWgJi5c

Probably not the best but I think it looks cool. So I ordered one, costs very little all things considered.

The description is hillarious lol. But it does look cool.

Hello, blue switch has paragraph sense , when you press it ,it have a  "kacakaca" sound

I am amazed at how much you managed to fit inside there!

what are the specifications of your computer?

also if your GPU is hot, why not drill some holes right below the GPU so it can get fresh air?

For my Xbox build a while back I did this, worked like a charm. Remember to use a mesh filter though.

I'm honestly curious as to where this came from.  When did people start calling their towers a "hard drive" or "CPU"?  I called it a CPU until I was tech-savvy enough to know better but that's just because my mom always called it that.

Its mostly older people. they refer to desktops as hard drives instead of desktops or towers. Im not sure why tbh

  13. K so i work in retail selling laptops and printers. A few of the most common things to come up are:

    1. Old person reads slowly off a piece of paper "It needs to have an eyecore 3, 8 emm bee of ram, and windows vista" because they looked at the requirement  for some ancient software.

    2. "YOU DONT UNDERSTAND. I WANT A CHEAP LAPTOP. THIS IS NOT CHEAP!" As I show them a 450 CAD laptop

    3. "I dont need these features, Im just looking for a work laptop." (A laptop with an i5 is on sale for cheaper than one with an i3, but they insist on going with the i3 because they dont need the i5)

    4. "Im looking for a new hard drive".  I show them the hard drives, and after like 5 min of talking I realize they mean a computer

"Story driven" computer/video games are lackluster and boring.

People that praise stories in games obviously need to read more books, because if they did they would realize how embarrassingly bad stories are in ALL games.

Game play firstly and atmosphere/world secondly is what makes a great game great.

This quote from John Carmack from the 90ies (i think) encapsulate it very well

Most of the time. But I still think undertale is better than most movies and books ive read, because you determine the outcome
