  1. "Windows User" problems are still problems. If it doesn't work for someone it doesn't matter who is at fault they should just use what works for them. Saying "Linux doesn't have OS problems" really doesn't help the person facing the User Expectation Problems and it really doesn't help other people who are considering giving Linux a try. The most productive thing that can be done when someone is facing "User Expectation Problems" is to help to try and solve those problems and to fit the OS to how they wish to interact with their system. Linux is customizable for a reason.
  2. Agreed. I also have an issue how he constantly bashes the idea of being a fan of a company due to the inherent fact that a company exists for the sole purpose of making money, yet he never really calls himself out for also having similar motives. I don't think he does it maliciously, but I feel he is somewhat blind to the idea that he could do evil simply because he knows deep down he intends not to do evil. He says we're the boss and that he has us covered, but at the end of the day priority number 1 is actually his employees and the business, which is how all the quality control issues even manifested to begin with, and how he could think it was a good idea to not retest the water block to save a few hundred bucks and employee time. I don't think this makes him a selfish person. He clearly cares about his employees to the point he is always late for WAN Show because he doesn't want his employees to fall behind because of him. But the motivating factor is the employees and making us happy is just the means by which he is able to support his employees.
  3. While ultimately I support Linus, I think he has the intelligence to demonstrate integrity but I don't think he necessarily has more integrity than others. I have seen many examples where he has wavered on his expressed principles, even if he never actually broke his principles. For example with the screwdriver released he seriously considered breaking his no preorder rule. He ultimately found a way to do an in person event so that people could try and review it before making it available as "backorders" but he seriously almost broke his rule cause he needed the money. Overall I think the difference between him having integrity and him having the intelligence to demonstrate integrity is more or less just how his priorities are ordered though. In the end he is gonna do the right thing, but he may prioritize his business over the community from time to time and we need to stay vigilant on that. Edit: To be clear, I don't think he lacks integrity, I do think he overall has pretty strong integrity, I just don't think it's as strong as it could be. It just appears so strong because it's boosted by the fact that he is incredibly knowledgeable on how to manage a community and keep that community happy.
  4. How else do you win a meaningless internet argument? Dumb people are gonna be dumb.
  5. Obligation Windows sucks use Linux. Jokes aside, I get that Linux isn’t for everyone, but this is the main reason that I personally choose to use Linux. No matter what OS you use you are going to have to put work in to get it to behave the way you want. I would rather put that effort into an OS that is TRYING to be more compatible and and trying to give me more free choice than to put that effort into an OS that is constantly pushing updates that benefit themselves at my expense. It’s so liberating to use an OS that is working with you rather than fighting against you. It would have been so easy for them to make these changes globally, but instead they spent the dev time to actively screw over their non EU customers.
  6. Of course, but that's not what we're talking about. It's ok if someone offers you some of their meal and Linus didn't offer. Steve was right about him. Completely unethical business. How dare Linus not offer Luke a chip.
  7. What I’m advocating is that companies shouldn’t give us the content for free by giving everyone else more shitty ads. They have the choice on whether or not to try to detect ad block and I legitimately think that YouTube SHOULD go through with that experiment they tried a while back where you only get a few video’s before they lock you out until you watch an ad. It’s not stealing if they continue to serve the content without doing anything. It only becomes piracy once you are circumventing a means to restrict access to the content to paying users (even if the payment is ads). If they are going to give the content regardless of if you watch the ads and not even to try to stop serving the video it’s just privateering.
  8. I chalk that up to their rushed production process. I'd give it a quarter or two to see how the week of introspection plans play out. It might result in better scripting of those spots.
  9. Unfortunately that's the problem with advertising. You HAVE to put it somewhere where people will watch it otherwise they will just click away. If they frontload everything, it will take too long to get to the content and people's ADHD will kick in and they will click away without actually watching the meat and potatoes of the video. If they backload the sponsor and product placements, people will have already watched the video and will click away. Overall while I agree that ads are annoying and ads that interrupt the flow of content are even more annoying, LTT does a pretty reasonable job with it. It's annoying, but it really doesn't try to take more of your attention than most people would actually give, and the fact that they go out of their way (and believe me it's a conscious effort) to make the sponsor segment at the beginning easily skippable with a double tap of the arrow keys is LOADS better than pretty much any other YouTuber will do. I can't tell you how many times I have had to right arrow 10+ times to skip a sponsor segment in another creators video only to have to left arrow back because the sponsor spot didn't actually end on a skip interval. As far as I am concerned, LTT is the gold standard for how sponsorships and product placement SHOULD be handled.
  10. Don't shame people for the practice of blocking ads. You are right that the content and platforms do need to get paid for SOMEHOW... but ads are shit. Very few of them are even worth watching and for the most part you are probably getting a repeat ad for a product you already know about. If too many people blocking ads kills the model then good. I would rather businesses find a more direct way to make money than this whole garbage "everything is free" model. WAN Show sponsor spots are a different story though. They actually make the ad part of the content, even go off the rails. It is actually entertaining to see what mayhem Dennis was up to for the week and watch Linus react to what's happening.
  11. No hard confirmation yet. All we have is Aprime's salty posts, and Tim liking them and also not being employed there anymore. Have any links or screenshots?
  12. While the exact circumstances are pure speculation, and while I agree that I don't think it was over just the labs tour comments, this is a bit more than "silly conspiracies". That said, I wouldn't jump the gun and ride the hate bandwagon just yet.
  13. I am not in anyway trying to justify or excuse his terrible response. His bad response was bad end of story. I just think it's important to consider why Linus responded the way he did as it gives us a better understanding of why he does the things he does, and it gives us a better idea of when we should trust him and what we should trust him on going forward. Linus has a tendency in general to get defensive with criticism. I believe he does this cause he has put a LOT of pressure on himself to keep LMG going. When they did the in person screwdriver event that enabled them to open up sales on screwdrivers for instance Linus was VERY defensive of the product. It's a good product don't get me wrong (I have tried it), but in the live stream you could really feel the pressure he was exerting on the guests to say positive things about the screwdriver. If I recall one of the guys wasn't completely sold so Linus decided to give him his for free. He is like this cause he puts so much pressure on himself to maintain the image of the company and his products. His defensiveness is almost a trauma response cause he has lived so long with the mindset that if you stop swimming you die. Linus even mentions in the first apology video how emotional he gets when people interpret an internal process error as malicious intent: Again, all of this is not to excuse Linus at all for any of the mistakes he has made. I am just trying to share my understanding of him so that people know what to look for.
  14. You are right that Linus has the platform to explain himself. But having a platform this big means you also get A LOT of criticism on a day to day basis, many of which is in completely bad faith. I think what happened with Linus's forum response is that he was frustrated that Steve didn't give him the opportunity to clarify what happened or his intent before turning the entire tech community against him. Whether Steve should have given him this chance is a debate that has been had to death in this forum thread, but I know for a fact that if I was in Linus's socks and sandals that it would greatly hurt my soul that someone I considered a friend put out a video calling my company unethical and calling me a bad person without ever even bothering to get my side of the story.
  15. In the case of LMG I completely understand Linus's reaction. My single greatest every day fear is getting misinterpreted and not being able to, or getting the chance to clear up that misinterpretation. It's not that I have a problem being told I am wrong, it just really bothers me when I know my intent was good but I am never able to convince the other person of this either due to an inability to communicate my thoughts properly, or because they have written me off and refuse to listen to anything else I have to say cause I am not worth there time.
  16. The community wouldn't have reacted as strongly as it did if Steve didn't have a point. It's easy to get mad at him for making the video, but LMG wouldn't have shut down production and give up it's never miss an upload streak if Steve was JUST trying to stir up drama. Say what you want about Steve and his motives, but this was a massive deal. I believe that LMG will come out significantly stronger as a result of this though. More accuracy checking and a less pressure work environment will ultimately benefit us in the long run. I want Linus to succeed, and I want Labs to actually become the authoritative voice it's aiming to be. If all of this results in that goal being achieved then I am here for it.
  17. To add to this... Never assume you are the good guy. Always question whether your motives are selfish and always be aware of when you are getting something out of your actions. If you constantly make yourself aware of when you are doing something for your own self interest then it becomes much easier to spot when you are in the wrong. People who assume they are the good guys are the most dangerous people out there. People who convince themselves that they have to do something evil for the good of others have the potential to do untold damage.
  18. Idk, his initial forum response was pretty abysmal. Literally the first point he covers and the first thing people see in that initial response is GN's bad journalism. I will say that AFTER that terrible gut reaction from Linus the team definitely responded very well. Their apology video was rather cringe in a few places but they are definitely taking the correct steps to improve and their follow up video is even better than that. The fact that they STILL haven't posted a video is also surprising as I was sure they had some videos in the pipeline before all this broke out that they could have posted starting Saturday or even Sunday. I don't know how well Linus is actually taking this. It's possible he still holds a grudge and will continue to hold a grudge against Steve. At the very least he is smart and he can recognize when he is in the losing position and adjust accordingly. He may not be the best business man, but he knows how to read the sentiment of his community and adjust to what they want to see and that has and will continue to carry him far.
  19. While that’s mostly true I feel there are some exceptions where if they want it enough they settle for “the best we can offer” rather than “better than or different from the rest of the competition”. For instance the LTT water bottle’s innovative feature is it’s cool graphic. Realistically any vacuum insulated water bottle is going to be just as good. I don’t expect them to take this idea and run with it, but there is the opportunity to have fun LTT patterns on them and they would make excellent and useful bonus bin items.
  20. I’d love a good quality microfiber cloth for cleaning glasses. I feel that it’s hit or miss with lens cleaning cloths on how effective they are at picking up grease vs just smearing it. I have one really good one that I really like but given all the ones I have were free with my glasses, I have no idea where to get a new one. I’d love to be able to buy say a 3 pack with different LTT themed patterns that I know will be as effective as they can be.
  21. I do not recall the part of the story from the GN video where they had originally said LMG could keep the block, maybe that's on me but it could have been emphasized a bit stronger. Still all of the events that Steve covered in that initial video in regards to the auctioning of the cooler were from the perspective of billet labs who would have had just as much "Motive & Opportunity to Cover-up, Mislead, or Misrepresent" as LMG had. While ultimately LMG was in the wrong on this one regardless of whether they had shared their perspective or not, Steve should have gotten Linus's side of this story rather than blindly trusting Billet to tell the whole truth. Everything else in Steves video including the commentary on Linus's refusal to retest the Billet Labs cooler however is based on objective facts and existing statements and does not require letting Linus know ahead of time.
  22. I don’t know if anyone here has actually read the terms of their agreement, or the communications between the two parties, and there is no guarantee that billet labs is telling the whole truth. As far as I’m aware LMG had not acknowledged the accidental auctioning of the cooler until after Steve posted the video. Assuming I’m not messing up any of the details here. Steve took them at their word without getting LMG’s side. In the latest update video when Linus addressed the billet lab situation he says: While I do not Trust Linus at all in this situation after everything that happened, this is a very different story than what we were led to believe and it’s very possible that this could have happened. Steve not getting this perspective denies us the opportunity to judge the situation fairly and starts everyone off angry and against Linus. The labs data inaccuracies are provable objective fact, but billet we have to take them at their words.
  23. After reading this from that reddit thread I have COMPLETELY changed my stance on whether Steve should have reached out. I hadn't considered this aspect of it and this is correct. If it's a he said she said you gotta get both sides you can't just assume the first side you talked to is correct. What I would have done is reached out for comment about the billet labs situation and not told Linus he intended to criticize about the graph stuff.
  24. I am referencing this clip for anyone who missed this hilarious clip.
  25. Sorry only goes so far. They already said sorry in the previous video. It wasn't a particularly great apology video but they apologized. The new video was about action and showing that they have taken the first of many steps towards improving and showing what became of those first steps. Or that one of their friends they have gamed with for literal years is actually an employee.
